32

• Current Process:

– Has served UNC Charlotte well

– Fit with System-Level “Windows” for Submitting Proposals for New Programs (Windows opened/closed once every two years)

• UNC System Revised Program Planning Cycle

– “Windows” for submitting Ph.D. proposals to Office of the President now open twice per year (May/October)

Academic Planning Process

Page 33: UNC Charlotte Campus Academic Plan 2004-2009

Apr 21, 2023

Acad Affairs Council-Jan 22, 2003

33

• Need revised process for evaluating program proposals

– At a disadvantage because our campus planning is out of synch with system windows

– Proposals should be evaluated on their appropriateness to the graduate mission of the University

– Process would benefit from more direct and early Graduate School involvement

– Need a more systematic way to evaluate interdisciplinary program proposals

Academic Planning Process(Continued)

Page 34: UNC Charlotte Campus Academic Plan 2004-2009

Apr 21, 2023

Acad Affairs Council-Jan 22, 2003

34

• Dean of the Graduate School will develop a revised program development process to conform to new UNC System “windows”

– Allow departments and multidisciplinary teams to generate proposals for new programs more than once every two years

• Associate Provost for Research will develop new guidelines and procedures for selecting new centers/institutes
