EL PASO, TEXAS – Border Patrol agents found a tunnel that goes under the Rio Grande and ends in Mexico, and it is believed to have been used to smuggle drugs to the U.S.

The finding took place June 25, when Border Patrol agents detained and arrested a Mexican teenager who was carrying about 200 pounds of mari-juana. When the teen was arrested officers noticed a hole in a concrete duct that is part of the border sewer system.

A technician and a border patrol agent found the tunnel, which measures about 2 feet by 2 feet that is linked to a section of the sewer pipe.

The tunnel, described as dark and without ventilation, was coming from the south. At the other side of the border Mexican authorities located the entrance to the tunnel, also in a sewer pipe. The tunnel travels under the Rio Grande. Investigators found another 200 pounds of marijuana inside the tunnel, as well as a blow torch and several gas cans, allegedly used to open the tunnel.

EL PASO, TEXAS – Elementos de la Patrulla Fronteriza descubrie-ron un túnel que pasa por debajo del Río Bravo, el cual se cree servía para contrabandear drogas.

El descubrimiento se realizó el 25 de junio, cuando oficiales de la Pa-trulla Fronteriza detuvieron a un adolescente mexicano con aproximada-mente 90 kilos de marihuana. Al hacer el arresto, los oficiales detectaron que había un hueco en un ducto de cemento que forma parte del drenaje de la zona fronteriza.

Posteriormente un técnico y un agente de la patrulla fronteriza encon-traron el túnel, de 60 centímetros de diámetro, que conectaba con una parte del drenaje.

El túnel, descrito como oscuro y sin ventilación, seguía en dirección sur. Autoridades mexicanas descubrieron el punto de origen del túnel en las instalaciones de drenaje del lado mexicano. Este túnel pasa por debajo del Río Bravo.

Los investigadores encontraron otros 90 kilos de marihuana en el tú-nel, así como un soplete y varios envases de combustible, aparentemente usados para abrir el túnel.

43 people arrested in ICe raid in California

FULLERTON – Immigration and customs Enforcement agents con-ducted an immigration raid in a manufacturing plant, taking 43 people into custody.

The raid took place June 29 at about 8:30 a.m., when ICE officials arri-ved with a search warrant at Terra Universal Inc., as part of an ongoing criminal investigation.

Beacause the warrant is under seal, no information was available.ICE spokeswoman Lori Haley said that officials had arrested a group

of people at the site, who would be processed for apparent violations to immigration law. Haley said that all 43 detainees were in the country illegally.

However, she said the number of people in custody could go down if some of them are freed for humanitarian reasons, to take care of elderly relatives or children, or for medical reasons.

The company describes itself as a leading designer, builder and equi-pper of clean rooms and laboratories since 1976.

Dave Ross, an immigration lawyer for Terra, said that this action from the federal government had been extreme and that it had caused the com-pany $250,000 in lost business.

Ross said that even though the search warrant only included emplo-yment records, ICE officials had shut down the company’s operations, including the areas of shipping, engineering and marketing. He said that there was a moment in which the phones and the computer system were shut down as well.

Terra employs about 150 people at its administrative and manufactu-ring plant.

“Terra Universal completely complies with immigration law, and has done so for many years,” Ross said.

The lawyer indicated he believed most of the 43 people detained would be releases.

La redada se realizó el 29 de junio alrededor de las 8: 30 a.m., cuando agen-tes federales llegaron con una orden de cateo a la compañía Terra Universal Inc., como parte de una investigación criminal continua. Los detalles de la orden de cateo están sellados, por lo que no hay información disponible.

PHOENIX, ARIZONA – Un candidato a la comisión reguladora de ser-vicios públicos en Arizona dijo que de ser elegido, pediría a las compañías y agencias de servicios públicos que revisen el estado migratorio de sus clientes antes de proporcionarles servicios.

Barry Wong, candidato republicano a la Comisión de Corporación de Ari-zona, propuso cortar el agua, gas, electricidad y teléfono a los hogares de personas que estén en el estado de forma ilegal, alegando que la medida permitiría mantener los servicios a precios más bajos para el resto de los clientes.

Candidate proposes cuts to public services for undocumented in arizona

PHOENIX, ARIZONA – A candidate to the commission that regula-tes utilities in the state has said that if he is elected, he would ask public services companies and agencies to check the immigration status of their customers before providing them services.

Barry Wong, a Republican candidate for the Arizona Corporation Commission, proposed to cut water, gas, electricity and phone services to the homes of people who are in the state illegally, saying that by doing this utility service rates would be cheaper for the rest of the customers.

The candidate said that the influx of illegal immigrants forced the state to build new power plants and increase rates to customers.

Wong, a lawyer, has been a member of the Arizona House of Repre-sentatives for four terms.

He said his proposal includes spending money to check the immi-gration status of customers, but that the savings in infrastructure would easily offset those expenses.

Members of the Arizona Corporation Commission have the authority to regulate electricity and water utility companies.

Six candidates are competing for five spots in the Commission in the upcoming elections.

WASHINGTON – El presidente Barack Obama refrendó su compromiso de arreglar el sistema migratorio norteameri-cano, pero dijo necesitar del apoyo de los republicanos para lograrlo.

Durante un discurso pronunciado en la Universidad Ame-ricana de Washington el 1 de julio, el presidente dijo que su gobierno no “dejará para más adelante” la tarea de reparar el sistema migratorio.

Mencionó que una amnistía generalizada, como la que pro-ponen algunos defensores de los derechos de los inmigrantes, no es adecuada ya que crearía un nuevo flujo de inmigrantes indocumentados, además de que no sería justa para quienes están esperando emigrar a los Estados Unidos por la vía legal.

También descartó la posibilidad de detener las redadas que han venido llevando a cabo las autoridades de inmigración.

Así como no es viable legalizar de forma generalizada a todos los indocumentados, también dijo que sería imposible expulsarlos a todos del país, por lo que el sistema tiene que arreglarse.

Obama también mencionó que debe exigirse que los inmi-

grantes indocumentados se responsabilicen de sus actos. “Te-nemos que exigir responsabilidad quienes han estado viviendo aquí ilegalmente. Ellos deben admitir que han quebrantado las leyes”.

También dijo que para darse una reforma migratoria, los indocumentados tienen que seguir un proceso, que incluye aceptar que están en el país de forma ilegal, registrarse, pagar impuestos, pagar una multa, aprender inglés y tomar su lugar en la fila, detrás de quienes han estado realizando trámites para venir a Estados Unidos de forma legal.

“Podemos crear un camino a la legalización que funcione”, dijo el mandatario, quien recalcó que este esfuerzo requiere del apoyo de ambos partidos.

Habló también de los esfuerzos llevados a cabo en el pasado para aprobar una reforma al sistema migratorio, los cuales no progresaron. Dijo que el palabrerío político y la intervención de intereses económicos se han interpuesto en el camino de la reforma.

Parte de su discurso lo dedicó a hablar sobre los empleado-res que contratan a trabajadores indocumentados, pagándoles menos del salario mínimo y en efectivo, algo que afecta las arcas nacionales ya que los trabajadores no pagan impuestos

sobre este dinero.Mencionó que el problema no puede ser resuelto solamente

con cercas y patrullas fronterizas, pero que también el gobierno tiene que aceptar su responsabilidad de asegurar las fronteras.

Obama dijo que las empresas deben enfrentar consecuencias si contratan a trabajadores indocumentados sabiendo su estatus migratorio, además de que los indocumentados deben seguir un proceso.

Con respecto a qué pasará con la reforma, dijo “La pregunta ahora es si tendremos el valor y la determinación política para aprobar una ley en el Congreso y llevarlo a cabo”.

“Pero la realidad es que sin el apoyo bipartidista, como el que teníamos hace algunos años, no podemos resolver este problema”.

Mientras que algunas personas tienen la esperanza de que algo se lleve a cabo en la sesión legislativa después de las elec-ciones, la mayoría de los expertos dicen que es más realista es-perar que algo suceda el año próximo, pero no es algo cierto.

Algunos analistas dicen que el discurso se pronunció en este momento para que el presidente pusiera presión a los republi-canos y para asegurar a los electores latinos que los demócra-tas no se han olvidado del tema.

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama confirmed his commitment to fix the broken U.S. immigration system, but said he needed the Republican support to do it.

During a speech at the American University in Washing-ton on July 1, Obama said his government won’t transfer the issue to the next administration.

He said that a generalized legalization of undocumented immigrants, the way it has been proposed by some immi-gration rights activists, is not right because it would create a new influx of undocumented immigrants, and it wouldn’t be fair for those who are waiting to come to the United States through the appropriate channels.

He also said he wouldn’t budge to requests to stop im-migration raids.

Obama said that while it is not feasible to grant legaliza-tion to all undocumented immigrants, it wouldn’t be pos-sible either to expel 11 million undocumented immigrants , so something must be done.

“We have to demand responsibility from people living here illegally. They must be required to admit that they broke the law,” the president said.

He mentioned that in order to have an immigration re-form undocumented immigrants should own up to their ac-tions, register, pay taxes, pay a fine, learn English and then get in line to earn their citizenship.

“We can create a pathway for legal status that is fair, re-flective of our values, and works,” he said, stressing the need for support from Republicans.

He also spoke about past immigration reform efforts that didn’t advance. Obama mentioned that politics and eco-nomical interests got in the way of an immigration reform.

In his speech he also spoke about employers who know-ingly hire undocumented immigrants, paying them below minimum wage salaries and in cash, something that affects the government because then the employees don’t pay taxes on that cash.

Obama said that the problem of illegal immigration can-not be resolved just by building fences and hiring more bor-

der patrol officers, and that the government also has to take responsibility for securing the borders.

He said that businesses must face consequences if they knowingly hire undocumented immigrants, and that un-documented immigrants must follow a process to become legal.

About what would happen with an immigration reform, the president said that “The question now is whether we will have the courage and the political will to pass a bill through Congress, to finally get it done.”

“But the fact is, without bipartisan support, as we had just a few years ago, we cannot solve this problem.”

While some are still hoping that something can be done during the legislative session after the elections, most ex-perts say that it is more realistic to expect something next year, but it’s not certain that it will happen.

Some analysts have said that the speech was pronounced now so the president could pressure Republicans and to as-sure Latino voters that Democrats haven’t forgotten about the issue.

MONTGOMERY – About 180 drivers have been ticketed in the village, after Montgom-ery Police officers began cracking down on drivers who obstruct sidewalks.

Officers stepped up enforcement after an increased number of complaints from residents who reported blocked sidewalks. The Illinois Vehicle Code prohibits vehicles from block-ing a public sidewalk.

“We’ve been made aware of several near tragedies when children riding bikes on a side-walk have swerved out into a street to avoid a parked car,” explained Acting Chief of Police Daniel Meyers. “With people spending more time outside during the summer, it is even more important that sidewalks are not blocked by vehicles. It seems this has become a chronic problem lately.”

About 180 tickets have been issued since May 1.Vehicles in a driveway must be parked so that no part of the vehicle extends into the

sidewalk area.

ELGIN – El Departamento de Transporte ha decidido cerrar por las próximas cuatro semanas la Ruta 19, también conocida como Irving Park Road, en el este de Elgin, para realizar reparaciones en un puente sobre las vías del ferrocarril.

Las obras de reconstrucción empezarán el 6 de julio y se espera que duren por cuatro semanas. LA Cámara de Comercio del Área de Elgin informó que las obras estarán en marcha por 12 a 14 horas al día, incluyendo algunos sá-bados, para terminar lo más pronto posible. Se espera que la reconstrucción sea finalizada el 3 de agosto. Originalmente el proyecto estaba programado a tardar ocho semanas.

El proyecto involucra un puente entre King Arthur Court y Rohrssen Road/Littleton Trail que pasa sobre las vías de ferrocarril EJ&E.

Las rutas de desviación son las siguientes:Los automovilistas que viajen en dirección este por la Ruta 19 serán di-

ELGIN – The Department of Transportation has decided to close Route 19 (Irving Park Road) for the next four weeks, on Elgin’s far east side, to work on some repairs to the bridge over the train tracks.

Construction work will begin July 6 and is expected to last for four weeks. The Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce said the work will be done for 12 to 14 hours a day, six days a week, to finish as soon as possible. The project is expected to wrap up by Aug. 3. The original plans for this project called for eight weeks of labor on site during regular hours.

The project involves a bridge between King Arthur Court and Rohrssen Road/Littleton Trail over the EJ&J train tracks.

The detour routes are as follows:Drivers going east will be sent south on Shales Parkway to Route 20

(Lake Street), then east on Lake to Route 59 (Sutton Road) and north on Sutton Road to Route 19.

Those traveling west on Route 19 must go south on Sutton to Lake, then Lake west to Shales Parkway, and north on Shales to Route 19.

YORKVILLE – Sandra Vasquez, of Aurora, was found guilty of reckless homicide and drunken driving, charges related to a car accident in which five Oswego teenagers died.

The jury found her guilty of 12 charges of aggravated drunken driving leading to death, six counts of aggravated drunken driving causing great bodily harm and five counts of reckless homicide.

The verdict was read June 30 in Judge Clint Hull’s courtroom, and the judge ordered Vasquez be taken into custody, rejecting a request by her lawyer, Kathleen Colton, of leav-ing her on home monitoring until sentencing.

Jury members deliberated for seven hours before reaching a verdict.Vasquez, 26, faces up to 28 years in prison.She was driving her vehicle when it left Route 31 in Oswego and crashed against a util-

ity pole Feb. 11, 2007. In her car there were eight teenagers who had asked her for a ride from an underage drinking party. Five of the teenagers died and three others were severely injured.

Kendall County prosecutors said that Vasquez’ blood alcohol level was over the legal limit at the time of the accident, and that she was driving over 25 miles over the speed limit when she crashed.

Meanwhile, Colton said the blood tests weren’t reliable because during the accident Vasquez’ liver had been damaged and that affected the results.

When she took the stand, Vasquez acknowledged she had several drinks that night, but that she had lost control of the vehicle after she was distracted by one of the teenagers who were on the back seat and who kicked her seat. She said that when she focused her attention on the road, she had to swerve to avoid colliding with another vehicle, and that’s when she lost control of her car.

Sentencing date has been set for Aug. 27.

Kane to conduct ‘no refusal’ operation during holiday weekend

GENEVA – Multiple Kane County law-enforce-ment agencies, in conjunction with the Kane County State ’s Attorney’s Office, will conduct a “No-Refus-al” operation this weekend, the July 4 holiday.

“No-refusal” operations are designed to help law-enforcement collect the appropriate evidence neces-sary to convict drunken drivers.

The operations expedite the normal DUI booking process, allowing law-enforcement, with guidance of an assistant state’s attorney, to more quickly ob-tain a search warrant to compel a motorist suspected of drunken driving to submit to a lawfully requested blood, breath or urine test as required by Illinois ’ Implied Consent statute.

Illinois courts have consistently held that there is no right to refuse chemical testing when probable cause exists. Anyone who fails to submit to chemi-cal testing after a search warrant has been obtained might face additional sanctions.

YORKVILLE – Sandra Vásquez, de Aurora fue encontrada culpable de homicidio impru-dencial y manejar bajo la influencia del alcohol, en relación con un choque automovilístico en el que murieron cinco adolescentes de Oswego.

El jurado la encontró culpable de 12 cargos de manejo agravado bajo la influencia del al-cohol con consecuencias fatales, seis cargos de manejo agravado bajo la influencia del alcohol con grave daño corporal y cinco cargos de ho-micidio imprudencial.

El veredicto fue entregado el 30 de junio en la corte del juez Clint Hull, quien inmediata-mente ordenó que Vásquez fuera puesta bajo custodia. Él rechazó el pedido de la abogada defensora, Kathleen Colton, de permitirle con-tinuar en arresto domiciliario.

Su abogada defensora, contrarrestó diciendo que los análisis de sangre no eran confiables, ya que el hígado de Vásquez resultó dañado durante el choque y esto había afectado los resultados.

Durante su declaración en la corte, Vásquez dijo que había tomado varios tragos la noche del choque, pero que había perdido el control del automóvil después de que uno de los pasa-jeros en el asiento trasero la distrajera al patear su asiento. Cuando volvió a poner su atención en la carretera, ella dijo que había tenido que maniobrar para esquivar un automóvil, por lo que había perdido el control del automóvil.

El éxito de este festival se debe a Au-rora Graham, la organizadora del evento, quien siempre está al pendiente de que todo marche sin contratiempo alguno.

Para calentar los motores la sesión de canto la abrió Maya, una cantante profe-sional quien asistió como invitada espe-cial y estuvo a cargo de los controles del Karaoke. Ella convivió con los asistentes y los animó a hacer a un lado los nervios y cantar.

CD. DE MÉXICO – Fuerzas armadas estadounidenses han estado entrenando a las fuerzas armadas de México en programas de contrain-surgencia para luchar contra los carteles de las drogas.

De acuerdo a un reporte del diario El Universal, el Comando Norte de Estados Unidos ha estado entrenando al ejército mexicano en algunas de las técnicas empleadas para luchar contra las redes criminales en Afga-nistán e Irak.

Un reporte del Comando Norte estipula que durante los últimos dos años el Ejército de los Estados Unidos ha enviado 20 equipos de 4 ó 5 personas cada año a México, para entrenar a los oficiales del ejército mexicano, pero sin participar en sus operativos. El reporte también indica que la mayoría de las fuerzas armadas americanas que están entrenando a sus contrapartes mexicanos han encabezado operativos en Irak y Afga-nistán, principalmente en las áreas de trabajo social y reconstrucción.

El entrenamiento proporcionado a las fuerzas mexicanas incluye tra-bajar con ellos para que consideren la noción de que el enemigo vive entre la población civil y no es un enemigo externo al país, una línea de pensamiento contraria a la que hasta ahora seguían los oficiales militares mexicanos.

MEXICO CITY – US military forces have been training Mexican Armed Forces in counter insurgence programs to fight drug cartels.

According to a report from El Universal, the United States Northern Command has been providing the training in some of the techniques used to disarticulate criminal networks in Afghanistan and Iraq.

A report by the Northern Command said that for the last two years the United States Army had sent 20 teams of 4 or 5 people each per year, to train Mexican Army officers, but without intervening in any operatives. The report also said that most of the American forces that are providing the training had been in charge of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan in areas such as social work and reconstruction.

Training includes working with Mexican Armed Forces on the notion that the enemy lives amongst civilians and is not an enemy foreign to the country, contrary to what Mexican military officials have been taught.

CD. VICTORIA, TAMAULIPAS – Rodolfo Torre Cantú, candidato de la Coalición Todo Tamaulipas, fue asesinado cuando se dirigía al aeropuerto.

Torre Cantú fue ejecutado junto con seis personas en la carretera Ciudad Victoria-Soto La Marina, cuando la comitiva se dirigía al aeropuerto para continuar con el cierre regional de campaña, esto sucedió durante la ma-ñana del 28 de junio.

La Coalición Todo Tamaulipas está formada por los partidos PRI, PVEM y Panal. Este es el primer crimen contra un candidato a gobernador en la historia reciente del país.

Torre estaba considerado como el favorito a ganar las elecciones, programadas para el 4 de julio, en las que se renovará la gubernatura, 43 ayuntamientos y el con-

greso.Por su parte el presidente Felipe Calderón dijo que el

asesinato de Torre “se trata de un hecho absolutamente condenable que merece el repudio de la sociedad ente-ra”, y lo atribuyó al crimen organizado.

“No podemos permitir que el crimen imponga su vo-luntad y sus reglas perversas. El único camino de los ciudadanos es encarar con entereza a la delincuencia organizada,” dijo.

El PRI condenó el asesinato de su candidato y pidió una rápida investigación del crimen, mientras que los candidatos del PAN y PRD suspendieron sus campañas en señal de respeto.

Por otra parte, el Comité Directivo Estatal del PRI ha designado a Egidio Torre Cantú, hermano de Rodolfo Torre Cantú, como candidato sustituto en las elecciones del 4 de julio.

Torre Cantu was killed along with six other people while they traveled on the Ciudad Victoria-Soto La Ma-rina highway, on their way to the airport to continue with the closing of his campaign. The incident took place the morning of June 28.

The Todo Tamaulipas Coalition is formed by PRI, PVEM and Pana. This is the first crime against a candi-date for governor in recent history.

SINALOA, MEXICO – El cantante de narcocorridos Sergio Vega ‘El Shaka’ fue abatido mientras se dirigía a una presentación en el estado de Sinaloa el 24 de junio, horas después de haber desmentido su muerte en una entrevista.

Vega se dirigía la noche del 24 de junio al po-blado de Alhuey, en el municipio de Angostura, donde iba a realizar una presentación durante las fiestas del lugar. Él se transportaba en un vehí-culo Cadillac color rojo e iba acompañado de su manager.

De acuerdo a información de la Subprocuradu-ría de Justicia, el cantante fue atacado por varios sicarios en las inmediaciones de la caseta de co-bro del poblado San Miguel. A un lado de la puer-ta del chofer del vehículo se encontraron cuatro casquillos de bala 9 mm., pero las autoridades han dicho que se realizaron hasta 30 disparos contra el auto de Vega.

El manager del cantante, Sergio Montiel, se encontraba en el asiento trasero del vehículo y resultó herido. Él se encuentra hospitalizado bajo fuertes medidas de seguridad.

De acuerdo a declaraciones de Montiel al dia-rio El Debate, un vehículo comenzó a perseguirlos y a disparar en su contra. Al resultar herido, Vega chocó el automóvil, situación que aprovechó Montiel para salir del automóvil y esconder-se. Montiel dijo que los atacantes remataron a Vega con disparos en la cabeza y el pecho.

Solo unas horas antes Vega había desmentido su muerte durante una entrevista con un sitio de Internet de la farándula. En esta entrevista el cantante admitió haber incrementado su seguridad después de que varios cantantes del género grupero habían sido heridos o asesinados.

El funeral de Vega se realizó en el estado de Sonora, de donde era originario. Le sobreviven 18 hijos que tuvo con distintas mujeres.

Hasta el momento las autoridades no tienen sospechosos ni han realizado arrestos en relación a este asesinato.

SINALOA, MEXICO – Narcocorrido Singer Sergio Vega ‘El Shaka’ was slain while on his way to a show. The incident happened in the northern state of Sinaloa June 24, hours after he had refuted rumors about his death in an interview.

The evening of June 24 Vega was on his way to a show that was scheduled to take place in Alhuey, a town in the municipality of Angostura in the state of Sinaloa. He was set to perform during the town festivities. Vega was driving a red Cadillac automobile and traveled along with his manager.

According to information provided by Mexican authorities, the singer was attacked by sev-eral gunmen near the San Miguel tollbooth. Officers said they found four casings 9 mm caliber next to the driver’s side of the vehicle, but authorities said the car may have been shot up to 30 times.

Sergio Montiel, the singer’s manager who also was in the vehicle, was injured and is now under heavy police watch at a hospital.

According to comments Montiel made to El Debate newspaper, a vehicle started chasing them and shooting at then. When Vega got injured, he crashed the car, and Montiel used this opportunity to exit the car and hide. Montiel said the gunmen got close to the car and shot Vega in the head and chest.

A few hours before this incident, Vega had refuted death rumors during an interview with an online entertainment site. During the interview the singer admitted he had increased his per-sonal security after several grupero singers had been injured or killed.

Vega’s funeral took place in his home state of Sonora. He is survived by 18 children he had with several women.

Authorities said they have no suspects and have made no arrests on this case.

MEXICO CITY – Javier ‘El Vasco’ Aguirre handed out his resignation to the Mexican Soccer Federation and took full responsibility for the defeat of his team at the World Cup.

“I am the main responsible… It’s a shame but it’s true. I wasn’t capable of winning this important match. I couldn’t overcome the 30th minute and the 2-0 score in favor of Argentina. We tried but we couldn’t keep up,” he said during a press conference to announce his resignation.

CD. DE MÉXICO – Javier ‘El Vasco’ Aguirre presentó su renuncia ante la Federación Mexicana de Futbol y aceptó ser el responsable del fracaso del tricolor en la Copa Mun-dial.

“El máximo responsable soy yo… Es una pena, pero fue una realidad. No tuve la capacidad de ganar ese partido im-portante. Me faltó sobreponerme al minuto 30 y al 2-0 de

Argentina. Tratamos, pero no nos alcanzó”, dijo en confe-rencia de prensa tras anunciar su renuncia.

Explicó que su plan era llegar a los cuartos de final del Mundial 2010, y “el trato era que si no lo lograba no perma-necería al frente del Tri”.

El Vasco dijo que la decisión de retirarse del cargo la ha-bía tomado junto con su equipo el 29 de junio y que por el momento no tiene ofertas de trabajo, por lo que podría estar un semestre sin dirigir a un equipo.

“Ayer tomamos la decisión de separarnos del trabajo”, dijo. “No tengo ofertas de trabajo. México, España e Ingla-terra tienen todas las plazas ocupadas. Es probable que me quede sin dirigir en el próximo semestre. No me vendría mal”.

No descartó regresar al futbol mexicano si se le hace al-guna oferta de trabajo.

“Volvería a México si hay algo interesante. Soy un entre-nador y donde está la chamba, adelante”.

MEXICO CITY – Upon his re-turn to Mexico from the South Afri-ca World Cup 2010 once the Mexi-can National team was eliminated, Cuauhtemoc Blanco said that he will make a decision about the future of his career in the next few days.

In a press release, Blanco stated his desire to continue playing soc-cer. Here is the complete text of his message:

“We are now in Mexico and first of all, I want to thank all the Mexi-can fans, those who were with us in South Africa and those who sent us their good vibes from Mexico.

About my immediate future, I am letting you know that first I will take

some days off after over two mon-ths of training, it is always good to think and take a break.

About my next team, my agent is still working on this situation, as there is nothing formal as of now, but as soon as this issue is settled I will let you know.

I still feel strong, willing and ea-ger to keep playing. Soccer is my life and, as I have always said, I will play until my legs give up.

It’s true that retirement is getting closer every day, but I must confess that I still enjoy soccer the same way I did when I debuted as a pro-fessional player in 1992.

Again, thanks to all the Mexican fans for their support in this World Cup season.”

Mediante un comunicado de prensa, hizo del conocimiento del público sus intenciones de segur jugando futbol. Este es el texto del comunicado:

“Ya estamos en México y pri-

meramente quiero agradecer a toda la afición mexicana, tanto a la que nos acompañó en Sudáfrica y a la que nos envió toda su buena vibra desde México.

En cuanto a mi futuro inmediato, les comunico que tomaré unos días de vacaciones después de más de dos meses de concentración, siem-pre es bueno reflexionar un poco y tomar un breve descanso.

Sobre mi próximo equipo, les digo que mi representante se en-cuentra definiendo esta situación, ya que por el momento no existe algo formal y en cuanto esté arre-

glado este asunto, por este medio se los haré saber inmediatamente.

Me siento fuerte aún y con ga-nas e ilusión de seguir jugando, el futbol es mi vida y como siempre lo he dicho, jugaré hasta que las piernas me aguanten.

Es verdad que el retiro cada vez está más cerca, pero les confieso que ahora disfruto igual el futbol que cuando debuté en el año de 1992.

JOHANNESBURG – FIFA President Joseph Blatter apologized to the delegations of Mexico and England for the refereeing mistakes that happened during their matches and also announced the organization is looking into the use of new tech-nologies.

“I have spoken with members of the Mexican and English delega-

tions and I have told them: I’m sorry. They thanked me and accepted that refereeing mistakes are part of the game,” Blatter said of the goal that Carlos Tevez from Argentina scored against Mexico when he was in an off-side position, and England’s goal that was ruled out in the match against Germany.

He said that after these incidents “it would be a nonsense not to open the issue of technology again.”

This is a change from FIFA’s posi-tion on the issue earlier this week, when the organization spokesman, Nicolas Maingot, said the organiza-tion wasn’t going to use technology that is already in use in other sports worldwide.

Blatter said the organization is considering a new concept, known as “better control of the game,” which includes two more referee as-sistants.

JOHANNESBURGO – El presi-dente de la FIFA, Joseph Blatter, pidió perdón a las delegaciones de México e Inglaterra por fallas en el arbitraje de sus respectivos encuentros, además de anunciar que se estudiará el uso de nuevas tecnologías en los juegos.

“He hablado con las delegaciones de México e Inglaterra y les he dicho: lo siento. Ellos me dieron las gracias y aceptaron que los errores arbitrales forman parte del juego, aunque hayan contribuido a eliminarlos”, refiriéndo-se al gol en fuera de juego que anotó el argentino Carlos Tevez a México, y al

gol anulado del inglés Frank Lampard contra Alemania.

Mencionó que ante estos hechos, “no tendría sentido, ante la evidencia de estos errores, no reabrir el debate sobre el uso de nuevas tecnologías en el arbitraje”. Este es un cambio de la postura mostrada por FIFA a princi-pios de esta semana, cuando el vocero de la organización, Nicolás Maingot, dijo que el organismo no planeaba usar tecnología que ya es aplicada en otros deportes de alcance mundial.

Blatter anunció que están estudian-do un nuevo concepto, que incluye la incorporación de dos nuevos asisten-tes, denominado “la mejora del con-trol del partido”.
