“Rather, when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; blessed indeed will you be

because of their inability to repay you." (Luke 14:13-14) We have a difficult time with the concept of giving without expecting something in return. Even when we give to charity we often want something in return – a raffle ticket, a dinner, a chance to play golf or our name in print. Yet, as Christian stewards, we need to remember that the true reward for our giving awaits us in heaven.

MISSION APPEAL NEXT WEEKEND

Fr Eder Escobar and Fr Jaime Charuc will be speaking at all Masses next weekend (September 7-8) thanking parishioners for their many years of support for the Missionary Fraternity and asking for your continued prayers and financial assistance, which has sustained their missionary efforts for nearly 30 years. Please be as generous as you can as we continue our journey together. After the appeal, please make sure to say hello, which goes a long way toward demonstrating that they are among friends at Lumen Christi, a spirit which they say has sustained them during difficult times. ADDED BONUS! Members of the FMM Twinning Committee will be serving Guatemalan coffee as you leave church next weekend.

BUSINESS WAKEUP Christ in the Workplace

The Business Wakeup group discusses the Sunday Gospel as it relates to one’s daily professional life. The group welcomes anyone who works, especially in business and other professional occupations, but feels a need to bring Christ into their workplace. Business Wakeup meets every first and third Wednesday of the month, from 6:30- 7:30 am in the St John. On Tuesday, we welcomed back 311 students to Lumen Christi School. Our school currently serves 184 families, 32 of those families are new to the school this year. We are thankful for our many blessings and look forward to a fantastic and faith-filled school year.
