Annie Clark, better known by her stage name, St. Vincent, is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. She began her music career as a member of The Polyphonic Spress and was also part of Sufjan Stevens' touring band before forming her own band in 2006. Annie currently resides in Manhattan.

Her debut album was Marry Me, and was followed by Actor (2009). Her third album Strange Mercy was released on September 13, 2011. Clark has opened shows for such acts as Television, Arcade Fire, Andrew Bird, Jolie Holland, John Vanderslice, Death Cab for Cutie and Grizzly Bear.

In seasons three and four Scott employed a high intensity approach to the score. The sound reflects the edgy kind of music

that the heros of the show would listen to, and gives a very contemporary feel to the series. The battle sequences are driven

forward with modern rock instruments, aggressive beat programming, cinematic percussion and complex synth textures,

while the exotic locations used by the show allow experimentation with ethnic vocalists and instrumentalists to blend the

traditional with the modern sound of the series to create a hybrid score.

The Swedish industrial rock band DEATHSTARS returns with a blast when they release their long anticipated fourth studio

album “The Perfect Cult”. While their predecessor, 2009’s “Night Electric Night” was spawned with the band fairly off the

hook of their “Termination Bliss” touring cycle, only to see the band hitting the road yet again. For the upcoming new

output, DEATHSTARS finally managed to give themselves the needed time span to work in a “calm and methodic manner,

fully exploring the music writing process which resulted in the most dramatic Deathstars album to date.”

Besides their many headlining tours around the world over the years, the band also joined RAMMSTEIN’s sold out arena

streak for their “Made In Germany 1995‐2011” European Tour 2011/2012. At the same time they released “The Greatest

Hits on Earth”, a compilation presenting a decade of their tracks, released via Nuclear Blast.

“The Perfect Cult” has been captured in several studios: drums, guitars and bass were recorded in Bohus Sound Recording,

Kungälv Sweden, vocals in Gig Studios in Stockholm, Sweden and keyboards, orchestration and editing was done in Black

Syndicate, Stockholm. While the mix was handled by legendary Stefan Glaumann (RAMMSTEIN, WITHIN TEMPTATION),

guitarist/keyboardist Nightmare took care of the production from bottom to top. For the drum, guitar, and bass‐production,

Nightmare worked together with Roberto Laghi (ENTOMBED, IN FLAMES) at Bohus Sound Recording. The Mastering was

done by Svante Forsbäck (VOLBEAT, RAMMSTEIN) at Chartmakers, Helsinki, Finland.

As far as the lyrics are concerned vocalist Whiplasher states that “all the tracks are about our lives. Each song is a reflection

on a situation or a topic that deals with our experiences, usually from a jet black perspective.”

With visions inspired by amoral excessive lives, human fears and decay, the songs will be nothing less than a dark playground

set between straight forward tracks, atmospheric anthems and the unwashed loins of lawless rock.

New York Concerts is a 2CD set collection of two newly discovered 1965 concerts from legendary jazz, composer, clarinetist &saxophonist, Jimmy Giuffre (pronounced joo‐free). New York Concerts shed's light on Giuffre's "lost period" between 1963 and 1971 which was mainly undocumented although Giuffre continued to work through this era. These recordings are the latest treasures to be unearthed from the seemingly inexhaustible troves of producer/engineer George Klabin, who in the last few years has also released essential "lost" recordings by Bill Evans (Live at Art D'Lugoff's Top of the Gate), Wes Montgomery (Echoes of Indiana Avenue) and the forthcoming Charles Lloyd (Manhattan Stories). The Jimmy Giuffre 3 & 4's New York Concerts was brought to light through the passion and dedication of Klabin's partner in these releases, producer Zev Feldman, who brought the tapes to Barcelona‐based Distrijazz founder Jordi Soley. Sharing a similar enthusiasm for the music, Feldman and Soley cofounded Elemental Music label as a home for Feldman to release more catalog discoveries, unreleased tapes or reissues of out of print records from bygone labels. The first disc was recorded in September 1965 at Judson Hall during Charlotte Moorman's New York Festival of The Avant Garde, produced by saxophonist and jazz critic Don Heckman, on a triple bill with bands led by Heckman and Charles Lloyd. The concert marks the only performance by this particular trio with bassist Richard Davis and drummer Joe Chambers. Disc two travels slightly back in time to May 1965, with a performance in an empty Wollman Auditorium on the campus of Columbia University, then 19‐year‐old Columbia student Klabin had recently been appointed head of the jazz department at WKCR‐FM, the university's radio station, and wanted to present original recordings as part of his show. He invited Giuffre with that goal in mind, and recorded his quartet ‐ with Chambers, pianist Don Friedman, and bassist Barre Phillips. The pristine sound quality reveals Klabin's prodigious talents at an early age, close‐miking each musician and mixing live to a Crown 2‐track tape recorder. The release was mixed, mastered, and restored by Klabin & Fran Gala at the Resonance Records Studios in Beverly Hills. The tapes' welcome resurrection is accompanied by attractive and exhaustive packaging, with a 28 page booklet and liner notes by writers Philippe Carles and Bob Blumenthal (who interviewed Friedman, Phillips, and Chambers); background by Feldman and Klabin; and reminiscences by Guiffre's longtime collaborators Paul Bley, Steve Swallow, and the late Jim Hall. Koto virtuoso Chieko Mori already has number of important collaborations and projects under her belt, having worked with renowned artists the likes of Michael Galasso, Bob Wilson and Phil Minton. Her solo album, “Jumping Rabbit”, was released on John Zorn's Tzadik label. The koto has a two metre-long sounding box and an arced harmonic table; the strings which are all of the same length length rest upon mobile bridges. The player kneels over the instrument and plucks the strings using three ivory plectrums fixed to the fingers of the right hand while the left hand modifies the tone and colour by pressing on the strings behind its bridge. What is most interesting about “Katyou Fuugetsu” is that Chieko Mori adopts a fresh approach towards the instrument, suggesting new possibilities for koto music.

“The Artful Dodger“ was the ninth solo album by “Mott The Hoople” Mastermind Ian Hunter. Impressed with the former production on “Dirty Laundry” in 1995, Hunter collaborated again with Björn Nessjö on this album.

Ian has described this album as being his most focused. Although it needs a couple of listens to get used to, “The Artful Dodger” is a very strong album. It contains the song “Michael Picasso,” a tribute to his mate Mick Ronson with whom Ian used to work with until his death in 1993.

NEA Jazz Master Bobby Hutcherson makes his triumphant return to Blue Note Records, where the virtuoso vibraphonist started his

career in the early ‘60s, with the superb album, Enjoy the View. The vibrant session is produced by Blue Note president Don Was and

was recorded by an all‐star collective of saxophonist David Sanborn and organist Joey DeFrancesco, and featuring drummer Billy Hart.

The Hutcherson‐sparked group plays seven original compositions that range from cool, gentle grooves to fiery outbursts of exuberance.

At heart, the album soars thanks to the divine musical alchemy among the performers—an assemblage of veteran artists who play at the

top of their game.

In the tradition of the Blue Note label, founded by Alfred Lion in 1938, a day of rehearsal was scheduled preceding the recording of Enjoy

the View at Ocean Way Studios in Hollywood. Even though it was the first time Sanborn had played with Hutcherson and Hart, the

chemistry was immediate. “Don decided to have the rehearsal session recorded,” says DeFrancesco. “It’s a good thing because we

decided that three of the tunes—Dave’s ‘Delia’ and two of my new songs written for the date, ‘Don Is’ and ‘You’—were the best takes for

the album.”

DeFrancesco proved to be the common denominator of the session, having played with Hutcherson for some ten years, with

Sanborn and Hart, with whom he has enjoyed a long history, including his second album as a leader (1990’s Where Were You?). In New

York when Was first came on board at Blue Note Records, after dinner he serendipitously dropped into the Blue Note club where

DeFrancesco and Sanborn were performing. “I’d known Dave for some 25 years and I knew Joey as one of the best Hammond B3 organ

players in the world,” Was says. “I just sat there and the set was so relaxed and grooving. I loved what I heard. So after the two sets, I

met Joey upstairs and asked him what he thought about doing an album with Bobby and Dave. That’s how it started.”

Al Jarreau and George Duke were friends long before they became household names. They began playing together in the mid‐1960’s in San Francisco as

Al Jarreau and the George Duke Trio. The successes of these performances are what helped to launch both their careers. George’s tragic passing in

August, 2013, inspired Al to record this loving tribute to his longtime friend. With the exception of the fitting title track composed by Jarreau, all the

June24, 2014 marks the release of Time for Three’s fourth album and debut on Universal Music Classics, which is self‐titled Time for Three. The new album showcases not only the trio’s melody‐rich string weave but also its uncommon flair for collaboration, with the group teaming with pop singer‐songwriter Joshua Radin, jazz saxophone icon Branford Marsalis, young classical cello star Alisa Weilerstein and ukulele ace Jake Shimabukuro, among others.

Time for Three , the trio’s upcoming UMC debut, sees the group explore the interactive possibilities of string instruments, projecting their onstage magnetism into pure aural allure. The album also presents the collaborative essence of the group in the most organic fashion. As Tf3’s Nick Kendall points out, they have a personal connection to each of the guest artists. The trio blends its warm sound with the dulcet voice of Joshua Radin in new arrangements for four of his signature songs: “Everything Will Be All Right,” “What If You,”“Winter” and “Closer.” Kendall says: “We were big fans of Joshua and met him in a New York restaurant – then we began to imagine how our instruments would provide the ideal bed for his voice, so that it’s like an oboe rising out of a string orchestra.” Cellist Alisa Weilerstein was an acquaintance for years, with Kendall and violin partner Zack De Pue having studied with her father, violinist Donald Weilerstein,co‐founder of the Cleveland String Quartet. But the trio’s first musical meeting with Alisa was on the album’s arrangement by composer Kenji Bunch of the all‐time Rachmaninoff favorite Vocalise– with Alisa singing lead on her cello. “It’s a 21st‐century version of the piece we all know and love,” De Pue says, “and we hope to perform it with not only Alisa but with cellists from orchestras all over the world.”

With Branford Marsalis – a member of the first family of New Orleans jazz – the trio performs the “Queen of Voodoo” on the album, with the track a stylistic gumbo of American music in which the composer, Tf3’s Ranaan Meyer, imagined the band busking in the Crescent City. Marsalis has been an avuncular presence for the trio since the three musicians were put together with the saxophonist at a benefit concert, where “he schooled us,” Kendall recalls. Meyer adds: “He represents something serious and real – a great performer who has a real sense of what an audience wants.” The centrepiece of Time for Three is a concert favorite of the trio’s, “Chaconne in Winter.” It’s perhaps the ultimateTf3 mash‐up, with Bach’s totemic“Chaconne” melded with Bon Iver’s “Calgary” in an arrangement by Steve Hackman, a friend and collaborator of the group’s from the Curtis Institute.

Time for Three also includes a meeting with Indianapolis folk‐pop sister duo Lily& Madeleine on Meyer’s arrangement of the timeless “Danny Boy,” plus a collaboration with Hawaiian ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro on Kendall’s “Happy Day.” Other originals on the album are Kendall’s “Roundabouts” and Meyer’s “Banjo Love,” another live favorite. With Tf3 also offering a fresh instrumental of Coldplay’s rock tune“UFO,” the album represents an eclectic, but natural, mix. Kendall explains: “Like most young people in America now, the three of us grew up listening to all kinds of music – ’90s hip‐hop, grunge,bluegrass – and we’ve always played a wide variety of music.




Key Points:

Argentinean bandoneonist‐composer‐improviser Dino Saluzzi returns to his roots with El Valle de la Infancia. Recorded in

Buenos Aires, it’s the first of his discs to feature his “family band” since 2005’s Juan Condori. Here Dino is heard with his

brother Felix on tenor sax and clarinet, his son José María on guitars and nephew Matías on basses. Friends joining the party

are 7‐string guitarist Nicolás “Colacho” Brizuela, known internationally for his long association with singer Mercedes Sosa,

and drummer Quintino Cinalli, brought in by Dino to gently expand the sense of freedom that informs his music. “This work

is alive with different genres”, writes Leopoldo Castilla in the liner notes. “From dances such as zamba to carnavalito to

chacarera... The music captures the natural world of its origins; North Argentina, ablaze with mourning, despairing with joy.”

Austrian guitarist Wolfgang Muthspiel makes his ECM leader debut with Driftwood, a trio album of subtlety and depth

featuring renowned US jazz players Larry Grenadier and Brian Blade. Muthspiel – who recently made his first ECM

appearance on Travel Guide as a member of a cooperative trio with fellow guitarists Ralph Towner and Slava Grigoryan – has

enjoyed long, productive musical friendships live and on record with both Grenadier and Blade, leading to a sense of

Inventio is an inventive project at all levels, beginning with the instrumentation. Marco Ambrosini is one of very

few musicians playing nyckelharpa outside the Swedish folk tradition, and Jean‐Louis Matinier has similarly taken

the accordion beyond any ‘folkloric’ frame of reference. On the present disc, the French‐Italian duo plays a

programme inspired by the baroque sonatas of Bach and Biber but also by the lyrical cadences of Pergolesi. They

adapt and arrange works of each of these masters, and contribute compositions of their own. Following a path

from ancient to modern music, they improvise together, finding new sound‐colour combinations in the special

blending of their instruments. Inventio is a recording that will delight listeners who have appreciated Matinier’s

ECM recordings with Anouar Brahem, François Couturier’s Tarkovsky Quartet, and Louis Sclavis, as well as

Ambrosini’s discs with Rolf Lislevand, Giovanna Pessi/Susanna Wallumrød and Helena Tulve. (And it has the

potential to speak to a still broader audience: concerts with this music will follow in Autumn 2014.) Inventio was

recorded at the Auditorio Radiotelevisione svizzera studio in in Lugano, and produced by Manfred Eicher.
