Happy Late Summer! glad to get this issue out! summer seems to slow us all down, and yet speed us all up at the same time. and i think everyone out there knows what i mean—summer is a fun, hectic time filled with pools of memories and seemingly shortened days. due to this common occurrence in most—if not all—of our lives, each year, the harvest issue is the hardest to put together and to get support of financially. summer is hard on many local businesses, and unless you live in a tourism area, business seems to slow down—and this goes for everybody. with that being said, i really felt an obligation —no, a calling—to push the “Buy Local Life style”. The year is halfway over and the economy, though doing better, is far from perfect. Restaurants and retail are getting hit hard, and i hate to mention this, but the holidays are right around the corner.

our valley is full of the most wonderful, locally owned businesses, so let’s all get out there and support them! it benefits both parties! if you are wondering how you could possibly contribute, here’s how: with your money, your time, and your efforts (of any amount) in spreading the word about them. social media is particularly perfect for this, so let’s get on our Facebook and Twitter accounts and talk them up!

so, my challenge to you local super starters is to stop in to three new local businesses each month for the rest of the year—just three—and share with us on The urban Liaison Facebook Page about your experiences there. The word for your business and the businesses around you in this local area will spread like wildfire, and this will bring an abundance of prosperity to our local businesses.

When you think about it, it is actually quite easy—and convenient—to do: three new businesses while you are shopping back to school, three new businesses when you are dining out or having drinks, three new businesses when you are remodeling your home or updating your yard, and three new businesses when you are buying food and eating healthily.

The urban Liaison’s Facebook address is Facebook.com/theurbanliaisonmaga-zine. we will be watching the product of this challenge and will be giving away prizes to some of the lucky folks that help us spread the “Buy Local” word.

until our fall issue, may you all be blessed and live in appreciation and love; working together, we can do anything!

Tasty and scrumptious cuisine, delightful at-mosphere, and of course, the great customer service are all ways to describe the gastro-nomic experience we had when we visited

Solid Grill and Bar. we stayed at a downtown hotel and this restaurant was only a few steps from the hotel—it’s easy to get to it from

anywhere in downtown Boise, really. we were seated by the very friendly wait staff and they recommended we start with—now hold on to your hats because this alone will make you want to run down to the restaurant and start eating—three skewers of grilled haloumi (local mediterranean cheese from Ballard Family dairy & cheese) wrapped with roasted red peppers and served with pineapple and bal-samic reduction; it was so yummy! wow!

we then decided for the entree to have the solid salmon, and were we ever so happy we did. This particular meal includes a delectable pan-seared wild salmon filet, with the most mouthwatering honey and balsamic reduc-tion drizzled over the salmon. we thought that serving the salmon this way over the bed of asparagus risotto and a side of fresh vegetables was the perfect blend of flavors—it was lip smacking good! come on down and enjoy the diverse menu, where everything was made from scratch, at solid grill and Bar. you won't be disappointed!

The wooden stands at the two locations of The Old Fashioned Fruit and Veg Stands in Boise are bursting at the seams with

beautiful, fresh and local fruits and vegetables. Local cherries, corn, peaches, asparagus, nectarines, marionberries, watermelons and sweet onions are just a few of the most popular products that come from right around the Boise area.

As one of the most affordable produce markets in the valley, it is also one of the most aesthetically pleasing. Brody States, the owner, spends hours each day preparing for the customers who pile in to purchase armfuls of fresh produce at great prices. Brody States and his father, Ron States, have poured their souls into the stands and have just celebrated the twenty-fifth year of The Old Fashioned Fruit and Veg’s existence. Both stands are run completely by family and friends. “I grew up working here; my kids have grown up working here. It has been a labor of love for four generations,” Brody says

Supporting local business is an essential part of the States family mis-sion. Brody tells where he acquires his produce: small, local farms. “I enjoy helping the small guys because I’m a small guy. We have excel-lent relationships with every one of our vendors.”

Some other delicacies you will find at the stands are: a special line of sauces and dressings, cage free eggs, flavored fresh pasta, fresh local milk, tomato plants, nuts and dried fruit, and Christmas trees at the holidays. Both Ron and Brody say their favorite part of the job is pro-viding fresh local produce to great people. Ron told me, “When you have great customers, it’s not so hard going to work every day.” Be sure to visit one of the stands and say hello to the States Family—they are looking forward to meeting you!

FOOD, WINE AND SCENIC BYWAYS OF IDAHO

To drive the Western Heritage Historic Byway is to experience “Wild” Idaho. Museums, birds of prey, ancient sites, and mining towns along with the rugged outdoors are your invitation to create your own unique Idaho frontier adventure. The Birds of Prey National Conservation area is well worth a visit. It is the home to the largest population of nesting raptors in the world.

Another historical site is the Swan Falls Dam. This dam was the first powerhouse on the Snake River and known as the birth place of modern electricity - with the same standards used throughout the world today. As you descend into the Snake River Canyon, imagine a travel back in time as you witness the volcano path that created today’s Yellowstone Park and a field of hundred-ton boulders that were deposited by one of the largest floods in geologic history. And still visible today ready for you to discover are thousand-year-old petroglyphs inscribed by early Native Americans.

Begin your route through Kuna and visit the Kuna Visitor’s Center which will provide orientation for all the byway attractions. And if you are interested in food and wine on this byway, Kuna is the place!

Visit one of the best wineries of the Northwest, a hidden gem with magnificent summertime gardens boasting hundreds of colorful dahlias, dancing butterflies and home-town charm. It’s a true shangri-la located only 30 minutes outside of Boise.

Family-owned and operated, Indian Creek Winery truly believes in that old saying “Work hard, play hard.” Bill and Mui Stowe have been working hard since 1982 to craft premium wines from the best grapes in the heart of Idaho’s Snake River Valley appellation. Second generation, Tammy Stowe-McClure and husband, Mike, stepped on board in 2005 to help continue the success of this growing winery. All the hard work has been paying off – taking home gold medals from several wine competitions as well as being honored as “Idaho Winery of the Year” in Wine Press Northwest’s spring ’08 Edition.

We produce a wide variety of wine, and most are available for sampling in our tasting room at the winery. Our most popular wines are our Pinot Noir, Star Garnet, Mountain Syringa, White Riesling and White Pinot along with our small-lot wines: Chardonnay, Muscat Canelli, Viognier, Cabernet, Merlot, Syrah, Man’s Best Friend Malbec, Ragin’ Rapids Late Harvest Riesling, and our Ruby Dahlia Port.

Culinary Specialist Patrick Rolfe visits with Enrique Contreras, owner of the famous El Gallo Giro restaurant in Kuna, where authentic Hispanic cuisine has been served for fifteen years…

Q: Enrique, tell me about your background a bit on how you got into the restaurant business.A: I was born in Mexico where my father was a farmer in a village smaller than Kuna! My parents owned a Taqueria, which I worked at. But I had bigger dreams of opportunities in the restaurant business. My mentor, Lucio Prado first hired me as a dishwasher at his restaurant Acapulco’s in Boise. Within six months I was a server, and shortly thereafter when the chef quit I was offered the job of running the kitchen on the spot! Eventually I worked up to managing two of Lucio’s restaurants and then buying one. It has been a lot of hard work which I couldn’t have done by myself. I credit my wife Ana Paz for standing by me and finding ways to differentiate our restaurant. And our main success is derived from the warm embrace of the city of Kuna.

Q: What are some of your signature dishes?A: We are very well known for our Camarones Borrachos, referred to as “drunken shrimp” (the shrimp is soaked in wine)! It is served in a traditional lava rock bowl which brings out the rich red color of the sauce. Also, our fresh tableside guacamole creates a fun atmosphere while a server whisks together a custom guacamole to each customer’s liking. But our famous street tacos are just like Mom used to make, so they are very popular. For me personally, I like to create specials using seafood. It is always a great platform for a chef to explore.

Q: Is there one dish you love but don’t like to make?A: Yes, tamales! To make them right they take a lot of time. So we usually make them fresh for a special on Wednesday nights and of course for Christmas… that’s a tradition! We follow my mother’s recipe as she has made tamales all her life. This includes our scratch recipe for the masa from grinding the corn and then adding milk and cotija cheese. Most restaurants skimp by adding water and lard.

Q: What’s it like to be essentially one of the only restaurants on the Western Heritage Historical Byway?A: The local community enjoys the richness of the byway year-round. This is a very tight community where everyone participates in supporting one another. But for our traveling customers, they tell me almost every time, “I’m stopping by the birds of prey”!

Patrick enjoyed some street tacos and tableside guacamole. It was fantastic! Upon leaving, he spoke briefly to Cristal, the office manager who radiates in pride about working for Enrique.“I want to emphasize Enrique’s commitment to El Gallo Giro because it goes far beyond words. Enrique is involved in every aspect that happens on a day-to-day basis. He also shows commitment to the customers by going around to each table to make sure that the customers experience is only the best. People often ask when we will expand and branch off, but Enrique is only one person and a chain of restaurants wouldn’t be the same without Enrique being there. He has a special way of making all the customers feel like family.”

Don’t know what to do with your RV when it isn’t being used? Whether new or old, Rent for Fun RV Rentals has a solution

for you (and it doesn’t involve selling your RV)

o you have an RV gathering dust and withering away the value that made it so desirable? or maybe you wish that there were something you could do

to make money off of your RV when you aren’t using it (because we all know that they are pricey investments). This is common for a lot of RV owners, which is why Rent for Fun RV Rentals exists and thrives so well. with Rent for Fun RV Rentals, you can make mon-ey during the time that you are not using your RV; that’s right, the RV is still yours, but you can rent it out and make cash. how does this work? well, chris and Jewel are a husband-and-wife team that acted on a brilliant idea and made it into a successful busi-ness. it all began when they pur-chased an RV of their own in the mid-2000s. shortly after their pur-chase, the economy went downhill; suddenly, the solution was clear. The idea sparked, and from there, their passion for RVs grew along with their business, and it is all still bloom-ing. aside from their own ideas and techniques, chris also discussed strategies that he learned from other RV businesses; previous competitors in the business failed in aspects of their website and ended up going under because of this. chris and Jewel used this information to build a strong website to ensure that nothing of the sort happens to Rent for Fun RV Rentals.after meeting with the couple in charge, you will be instantly taken by their genuine kindness and admi-ration for working with people. They have a prosperous business that has grown to working with states all around the country and countries all around the world. yet, their humble nature is evident, and god is the focus of their lives. what do they want people to know above all else? “our faith in god,” Jewel said, “above all, we have god to thank for this business. he has blessed us, and now we are trying to help other people through that blessing.” They also mentioned that their favorite part about running this business is meeting so many people from various parts of the world and being able to help them out—this alone reflects their character perfectly.as was mentioned in the previous paragraph, they are expanding nationally; although, they do busi-ness with people globally, having had renters from australia to Japan. upon their new site, rentforfun.com, being released at the beginning of this year (after three years of careful planning), business has been boom-

ing more than ever for Rent for Fun RV Rentals. This new site acts as a search engine for RV owners and renters. if anyone has the desire to rent out his or her own RV or desires to rent an RV out, re-gardless of where that person lives, he or she can go onto rentfor-fun.com and type in exactly what they need. From san diego to Florida, anyone can go online and reserve an RV like one would do for airfare. it’s easy to use, simple, and extremely convenient.aside from renting out RVs, Rent for Fun RV Rentals also takes on older rVs and fixes them up. so, if you are hoping to make money on old, used, new, or unused RVs of any kind, models

from 2007 to present-year models, there is a solution for you, and it doesn’t involve selling your RV. “This turns a liability into an asset,” Jew-el mentioned during an interview. “we have pretty high standards for our renters,” chris added, “our stuff doesn’t get trashed.” he also went on to mention that the refundable damage fee paid upon renting is rather large to ensure that all vehi-cles are taken care of.don’t just take our word for it; go online to rentforfun.net and read testimonials from satisfied customers everywhere. here is a sample testi-monial from a happy customer:

"We’ve wanted to try a camper for sometime but didn’t want to buy it right off the get go. This was a fantastic find! I read an article last year in The Urban Liaison magazine and clipped the article for future use. Just by luck, we were asked to go to Hell’s Canyon fishing and were also able to rent this GREAT camper! I’d highly recommend this to anyone. The people are very friendly and knowledge-able about their products too. Thanks Again!"

From travel trailers to boats, and so much more, you are sure to find the rental you are looking for. or, if you are an owner desiring to rent out, you are sure to find a happy customer willing to rent out your ve-hicle, and in turn, you will be able to make that extra cash (even if you need it to be fixed up at rent for Fun rV rentals first). Prices range depending on the vehi-cle and/or service; the current rates for RV rentals range from $90/day to $400/day, and the vehicles range from 10 to 40 ft. due to the variance in RVs out there, prices on both ends are quite different—whether you are a buyer or a renter. so, for your own personal quote, contact Rent for Fun RV Rentals today.

RENT FoR FuN RV RENTAlS is looking for privately owned RVs from

the years 2007 to the present to rent out, fix up, or both. If you have a vehicle, or are in need of one, don’t hesitate to call or stop by! If you are interested in meet-

ing with chris and Jewel to talk about your own RV, or if you want to check out

RVs to rent, you can visit them at their location at 814 S. Rising Sun Dr. Nampa,

The importance of water is often forgotten when it comes to exercise performance and weight loss. Much of the attention leans towards finding the right foods and most effective exercise routine. However, we need to remember water plays a crucial role in the human body and is involved with practically every function in the human body. For instance, water is the body's coolant during exercise, is a carrier of nutrients to cells, is involved in the digestion of food, helps lubricate joints, effects hormone regulation, and is the main component of blood.

Proper water intake is also a key component for weight loss. Fat metabolism simply does not occur at an optimal rate when we are chronically dehydrated. Even new research has shown that increasing water intake can be an effective weight loss tool. Brenda Davy, Phd, RD and colleagues at Virginia Tech found that dieters who drank two cups of water before meals lost an average of five more pounds compared to dieters who didn't increase their water intake.

It should also come as no surprise that inadequate hydration can hinder exercise performance as well. This is primarily due to a reduction in cardiovascular output, metabolic reactions, and an increase in core temperature. In other words, water can make or break a successful workout! As a general rule, 24 to 32 oz of water should be consumed two hours before exercise, 4 to 8 oz every 15 minutes during exercise, and a minimum of 24 oz after exercise.

Harrison’s HopeHarrison’s Hope was founded by Jackie Johnson and Jason St. George after their son Harrison was born in 2003 with Congestive Heart Failure and had a close encounter with death. This experience gave them a new outlook on what “hope” really meant. Jason was born and raised in Meridian. Jackie has called the Treasure Valley home for more than 20 years. This isn’t just a place to do business for them; it’s where they live and where their children go to school. Harri-son’s Hope is interested in the long-term health of our community. We sh here, practice our faith here, serve on boards here, take our kids to the parks here, and attend BSU football games here. We care about providing excellent care for all those who call the Treasure Valley home. We know this community and we know how to care for its residents.

Because Harrison’s Hope is local, we’ve seen rsthand and have come to appreciate the wisdom and knowledge of our Medical Director, Dr. Jonathan Chu. He has practiced medicine in the Treasure Valley since 1989 and after many years of running his own clinical practice, Dr. Chu changed careers and took up full time employment in hospice. Dr. Chu has a personal story of caring for his wife who died of cancer several years ago. This provides him with the compassion for caring for others at end of life as well as the passion for what hospice care means to patients and families who are facing death. Dr. Chu believes it is important to see each one of his hospice patients for their rst visit. He establishes a relationship with them prior to them coming into the program. He visits with his patients in the comfort of their own home. Dr. Chu states, “I am happiest when I am seeing patients.” Dr. Chu and the Harrison’s Hope team are having purpose driven conversations with people about end of life. We are focused on changing the conversation about death and dying in a way that is tactful, honest, and provides respect and dignity for both patients and their loved ones.

Research the websites of the hospices in your area - nd out if the hospice is locally owned and operated. Ask the right questions. Ask your friends and neighbors for a recommendation. Tell your doctor who you’d like to interview. Pick up the phone and call a hospice to ask questions yourself. It does not take a doctors order to sit down and speak to a hospice representative. At Harrison’s Hope you can call and ask to have Dr. Chu make a visit to your home to have the discussion about hospice care. We have experts waiting to answer questions 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The BuyoutI’m sure I’m not the only one who’s noticed it. There’s a steady increase of corporate acquisi-tions that have been taking place in the Treasure Valley for the past ten years. The Treasure Valley has become an oasis for business owners and people escaping from places like California. We’re seeing a lot of residential and commercial growth which means more money, jobs, and resources are nding their way here.

But there’s a price to pay with economic growth. Giant bureaucracies are displacing local ingenuity and expertise, and quality is lost. When an out of state corporation decides to run a local company, community ownership diminishes. After all, what works in a large metropolis may not work in the Treasure Valley.

Ten years ago nearly all hospices in the Treasure Valley were local. In the past 5 to 7 years though, a large number of local hospices have been bought out by large out of state corporations that don’t specialize in hospice exclusively. What’s taking place is a drastic shift away from specialized, high quality, and local hospice care. It’s the dierence between going to the local tackle shop for advice or the shing section at Wal-Mart and we’re seeing it happen in hospice.

The FalloutWhen large corporations start to acquire local businesses, Local money ends up in the hands of banks accounts in other states. In the local hospice industry alone, money that would otherwise stay in the Treasure Valley, is now being sent to California, Louisiana, Texas, Utah, and Alabama, just to name a few. Companies that specialize in hospice care are becoming harder to nd each year.

Did you know when we do business online or with one of the big box stores, our money leaves the community and doesn't come back? However, when we do business with locally owned and operated organizations, the money involved from A to Z stays here. It’s been proven over and over again that statistically speaking; local business is the economic backbone of the nation. When buyouts occur, choices become fewer and fewer, and customer service suers. It becomes a phone number or an email address instead of a local person who lives in your city, shops where you shop, and whose kids go to the same school as your kids do. When you can’t go to a person who lives in your own community, what are your options? You become a number or name in a database instead of a real person who has real concerns. You’re a person who won’t stop emailing or calling, instead of a neighbor who needs help.

he Meridian chamber’s Small Business Award winners were announced this spring. They are a great example of both newer and more established businesses that are growing

and thriving in today’s business climate. This wonderful group of busi-nesses. and all of those nominated for their success. is a great reason for the chamber and the business community to celebrate. over 160 attendees came to the lunch to honor these exceptional businesses.

This year’s honorees are:

small Business Person of the year calvin Barrett, Edward Jones small Business of the year, 1-10 employees FreedomMaid small Business of the year, 11-50 employees Intermountain Pet Hospital and lodge small Business of the year, 50+ employees Food Services of America Philanthropic Business of the Year: Scentsy Family Foundationzions Bank was the Presenting sponsor, and the keynote speaker was Robert Jeppsen, senior Vice President of commercial sales for zions Bank, who is a meridian high school graduate. Jeppsen’s presentation, “moving the sales needle: The immutable laws of small Business marketing”, was both entertaining and informative as he reviewed three laws that small business owners and managers can employ for success.

The chamber is proud to have helped foster a business community where these businesses are thriving. The chamber is a catalyst through which business and professional people work together for the common good of the community. all chambers tend to focus to some degree on five primary goals: building better communities to which residents, visitors, and investors are attracted (both to come and to stay); promot-ing those communities; striving to ensure future prosperity via a pro-busi-ness climate; representing the unified voice of business; and helping to foster communication between the various organizations that impact business. a better community means better business conditions. we work to create and keep our economic condition at a level where the businesses will invest their resources here in hopes of making a profit. after all, that’s why they’re in business.

The chamber is made up of business people who create an environ-ment where new and existing businesses can grow and thrive. These members represent local businesses that voluntarily pay dues to sustain a membership base that works for the betterment of the community. They share a common ambition for sustained prosperity of their commu-nity. it’s those active chamber participants that provide the ideas, the drive, the goals, the funds, and volunteer time to keep the chamber vibrant, active, and productive and enhances the meridian business climate.

Make up your Mind When you can’t fit the car in the garage anymore, you know it’s time

to clean it out. Often times, we only decide to change when the pain of not changing becomes greater than our comfort with it. Decide what it is you really want and go for it.

get support Organizing the garage is always easier when someone else is there to help you

see that you really don’t need that junk anymore. Don’t try to do it alone. Find a mentor or partner who can help you stay focused and motivated.

Baby steps Cleaning out the garage is not a one day project. Good news is, change

doesn’t happen overnight either. Make a plan for managing the change and break it down into small incremental goals that move you toward the big one.

Every summer weekend, you can drive around any neighborhood and find a garage sale. driveways are covered from door to curb, organized in piles of knick knacks, books, toys, clothes, appliances, furniture -- you name it. These items are typically still usable, but are no longer needed in that household, and things that don’t earn a couple quarters get hauled off to charity. if you’ve ever held a garage sale, you know that getting rid of stuff you don’t want is a big relief, but getting ready for the event is a huge endeavor. The garage has to get messy before it can get tidy. chaos always comes before order…and so it is with any “change.”

when is the last time you had an inner-self garage sale and made some changes to your internal in-ventory? Whether it’s your physical, emotional, spiritual, financial or professional health, we all need to clean things out occasionally. however, many of us don’t make the time, because change can be intimidating and difficult, because it often gets ugly before it gets pretty – just like a garage.

To ease the process, here are Five Tips to Help you Make a choice for a change:

A Clean Garage is a happy Life!

christy Stansell has a double major from usc, 14 years experience in television, 8 years in sales, three sessions working in the idaho senate, and she's a wife and mother. christy founded Make A choice To Have A Voice to raise awareness of Verbal, mental and emotional abuse. her campaign has evolved to offer personal coaching and professional speaking services customizable for any audience. she is certified as a Dream Builder coach through the Mary Morrissey life Mastery Institute in Los angeles. christy's purpose is to help people Discover, Define, design and decide for the life of their dreams.

URBANexpert

visualize success Won’t it be great when you can see the walls and floor

of the garage again? Picture yourself hav-ing completed the change, knowing what it will feel like and be like to have done what you set out to do. What an awesome sense of accomplishment.

reward yourself At the end of the sale, you may have earned a couple

hundred dollars. When there is an incen-tive to finish what you start, your chance of completing the task is greater. Decide on something special you will do or have when you make the change – and then honor it.

Remember, making a change is a messy process. Part way through, there will be temptation to say, “never mind, i’ll just park in the driveway.” But is that really the way you want to live your life, constantly burning your bum on the sun-scorched seat, or digging out from a foot of snow? a clean garage is worth the effort – so take care of your inner self and make a Choice for a Change.

Let me help you clean YOUR garage!

In the midst of a difficult time, legal paperwork can be daunting, expensive, time-consuming and confusing. This is not the case at citizens Legal access center in nampa, idaho. The document preparation firm is run by husband and wife, Pete and Brenda, who have both been active members in the canyon county community and have strong relationships with many people in the area, including the clients they help. “we can help almost anybody,” says Pete cameron, co-owner. “as long as the client does not need legal advice, we are here to guide them through pa-perwork and logistics.” For those clients that need an attorney, cLac gives referrals and also helps the client save money by completing prelimi-nary paperwork. From corpo-rate executives to convicts, cLac strives to make legal matters more accessible and substantially more affordable for the local community.

after buying the established canyon Legal Forms two years ago, citizens Legal access center has grown substantially. with over 100 legal forms on hand and years of experience with the protocols, these legal processes are only a few that are made simpler by using a document preparer. while she is not an attorney, Brenda Cameron is a certified professional mediator who offers guidance and counseling for her clients and sees success in legal disputes the majority of the time.

citizens Legal access center has helped hundreds of clients tackle divorce paperwork, adoption processes, child support forms, guard-ianship issues, and various other legal issues with less stress and for 10% of the cost of traditional legal procedures. “it brings me so much joy to help people who are scared of the processes, of money lost. we simplify things here. when things are made simpler at a not so simple time in their lives, i feel their joy.”

a story that Brenda and Pete recall with grins is a tale of a young couple who came into their office looking for assistance with a

divorce. “in less than 24 hours, it was official, “ Brenda laughs. “in the traditional legal system, that would just never happen.”

a more heartwarming story was one the pair told of an adoption. “it had been an ongoing struggle to make the adoption official.” Brenda says. The adoption took years and cost thousands of dollars with no progress. Brenda completed the necessary documents and the adop-tion was made official. “it was amazing,” says Brenda. These expedited

processes are just one of the benefits of using cLac.

Pete claims that transparency and integrity are the two most important characteristics that the staffers embrace at cLac. he de-fines Fear as an acronym: False evidence appearing Real. he says, “People fear the outcomes, they fear the fight, they fear of not being able to afford expensive legal fees. hopefully we provide a way to alleviate that.”

citizens Legal access center is located at 1015 caldwell Blvd. in nampa and offers free consultations monday through Friday. in august, cLac will open its second location in Tri-cities wa. also in august, they will com-plete a website upgrade that allows custom-ers to buy and download "idaho specific" blank documents, and complete document packages. spanish services are available. on a side note, they are offering affordable leasing of office space at their nampa location. contact Pete for more details.

n 2002, elaine gie was ready for a change for herself and her three cats. The Texas native visited Boise and fell in love with our climate and the beautiful landscape. That summer

she moved to idaho with her cats, kittywell (age 12), Tiger (age 11), and miss cleo (age 7), to “escape the heat, humidity, and relentless traffic issues associated with living in Houston.” one year later, kittywell was diagnosed with feline hyperthyroidism.

Feline hyperthyroidism causes numerous metabolic changes in cats including weight loss, fluctuations in appetite and energy level, fever, rapid heartbeat, excessive water intake, diarrhea, and osteoporosis. kittywell was referred to dr. hazel carney, Feline medicine and Behaviorist specialist at westVet, for i-131 radiation treatment. dr. carney is a nationally recognized veteri-narian who co-created i-131 radiation treatment in 1986.

elaine says, “kittywell was an easygoing cat who could jump large heights, even in his senior years. he had experienced a heart murmur while living in houston, so dr. carney took extra precautions.” during his treatment he developed an extremely rapid heartbeat and elaine believes that without dr. carney’s expertise, his heart might have given out. she administered medication to slow kittywell’s heart and help him through the i-131 treatment—which was 100% successful in curing his hyper-thyroidism.

dr. carney successfully coordinated kittywell's follow-up care with his family vet and he went on to live another six years. Blood clots finally wore him out and elaine had him put to rest in early 2009 at the ripe old age of 19. she says, “i will always believe that he would not have lived such a long life without dr. carney's knowledge and care.”

According to the american association of Feline Practitioners (aaFP), feline behavior problems remain the leading reason for euthanasia in pet cats. cat behavior issues may lead to family stress, inappropriate punishment, decreased quality of life for the cat, and dete-rioration in the human/animal bond. however, the majority of behavior issues can be helped through owner education, environmental adjustments and prevention. Dr. Hazel carney, a feline behaviorist, can help cat owners achieve a more harmonious living situation and provide insightful information on eliminating negative behaviors with your cat(s).

We offer emergency veterinary care to pet owners in the Treasure

Valley 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. In addition, our team of veterinary specialists partner with area family practice veterinarians to offer advanced

care and provide state-of-the-art veterinary medicine to your pets.

elaine’s tortoiseshell tabby female, Tiger, also reached age 19 under dr. carney’s care. Just like kittywell, Tiger was diag-nosed with hyperthyroidism and began treatment in 2004. Tiger developed a myriad of health issues related to chronic renal insufficiency. Dr. Carney not only coordinated treatments with her family veterinarian, she also recommended holistic treatments such as non-prescrip-tion supplements that were beneficial to Tiger without added side effects.

dr. carney also successfully treated elaine’s all-black, shorthaired cat, miss cleo, (who is now 19 years old) for hyperthyroidism. elaine attributes her cats’ long and happy lives to the atten-tion and consideration that dr. carney showed toward her feline family. “i'm very happy to have dr. carney involved in the care of my cats. no one else has her in-depth knowledge of feline health, especially for geriatric cats, and no one else has the deep regard and apprecia-tion for cat behavior that dr. carney demonstrates on a regular basis.”

dr. carney was recently named idaho Veterinary medical association Vet of the year. she serves as chair of the guidelines committee of the american association of Feline Practitioners. she’s a co-author of several guidelines publi-cations that establish best practices for feline nursing care, creating a healthy environment, handling of cats during veterinary visits, and management of feline house-soiling behavior.

westVet can work with you and your family veterinarian to help you decide if i-131 treatment is right for your cat. you don’t have to go through your pet’s illness alone. The westVet team reminds us that, “we hope you don’t need us, but if you do, we’re here to help.”

sexy Lipo idaho uses the newest upgrades and equip-ment to provide a safe weight loss and body sculpting solution. Their 3rd gen machine utilizes low frequency, ultrasonic waves to break up fat cells and flush them from your body.

Results are immediate and can be measured after the first session. There is typically a ¼ to 2 inches of loss from the measurements taken before the treatment. “seeing results is very rewarding for both the client and myself,” said Rae ann Tolley, owner of sexy Lipo idaho. “it feels great to help someone feel better about themselves.”

The process is so quick, easy, and painless that clients can effortlessly visit sexy Lipo idaho without needing to

take any more time off than their lunch break. a few brief sessions may be all a person needs to rid themselves of problematic pockets of fat that have long been a source of frustration.

after an initial consultation with Tolley, a schedule of sessions will be suggested to the client. each person may be advised differently depending on the area and goals that they wish to achieve. There are, however, a few basic guidelines that are intended for everyone who wishes to see an optimal amount of success from their visits to sexy Lipo idaho.

For best results, Tolley recom-mends that clients schedule two appointments per week. a successful course of treat-ments, which is typically 4-6 treatments per area, should consist of at least one appointment per week until all of the suggested treat-ments have been completed.

hydration is key to the suc-cess of a client’s ultrasonic liposuction treatments, and anyone undergoing these treatments should drink sixty-four ounces of water before and after each session. it is also recommended that clients schedule a one-hour workout session after their appointment to aid in the process of flushing out fat and toxins.

sexy Lipo idaho is kept quite busy this time of the year—especially through brides and vacationers—and their success rate and client satisfaction level are not only what keep new customers coming, but also what keeps them coming back. “a lot of people come in for one area and are so happy with the results that they come back for another,” Tolley said.

a new addition to the services offered by sexy Lipo idaho is the ojavan body wrap. it uses mineral-rich mud that has been removed from the great salt Lake and processed for two years. The mud, which is used in the wrap, pulls toxins from the body and promotes the breakdown of fat cells. The results are similar to that of the ultra-sonic lipo treatments and the metabolizing occurs for 24-48 hours after the treatment.

By using body wraps and ultrasonic liposuction in conjunction with one another, the results from the wraps are quite lasting. Just as with the ultrasonic liposuction, however, hydration is key to the treat-ment’s success. it is very important that enough water be consumed

it seems that there is no escape from those “problem areas” regardless of diet or exercise—the bulges and dimples don’t seem to budge. This often makes sum-

mer a dreaded season—a time to cover up embarrass-ing body parts despite the heat. This doesn’t have to

be the case. sexy Lipo idaho offers ultrasonic liposuction, a painless and noninvasive form of fat reduction with

no scarring or bruising, and no downtime.

to properly flush out fat and toxins. “The client doing their work is just as important as us doing ours,” Tolley said.

sexy Lipo idaho has recently moved to a space at Firehouse #6, a converted fire station that now serves as an event and fitness facility. Founders Teri Calkins, Crys-tal markham, and sharon Boland shared the same vision of assisting others in find-ing physical and spiritual wellness, while empowering them to make realistic, healthy lifestyle changes.

with this community-minded idea of health and fitness in mind, sexy lipo idaho fits well within the framework of the Firehouse #6 mentality. The positive changes and improved body image brought about by ultrasonic liposuction treatments are exactly why Tolley provides her services.

The many success stories that Tolley shares are proof of the authenticity of ultrasonic liposuction procedures. in fact, many people come to sexy Lipo idaho after researching the many fat reduction options available. “i like it when people are skepti-cal,” Tolley said. “That means that they will do their homework.”

The stories of people who have experienced the life-changing effects of ultrasonic lipo-suction by sexy Lipo idaho verify that the procedure is capable of achieving amazing results. Brides are a source of satisfaction and validation for Tolley, and one in particular stands out.

one client had purchased her wedding dress online, and unfortunately, when it ar-rived, the zipper could not be pulled up. The bride turned to Tolley and visited sexy Lipo

idaho for a series of treatments to reduce fat in her back and waist. after undergo-ing a complete series of sessions, she tried on her dress again and found that it was far too loose. The fantastic results of her ultrasonic lipo procedure made it necessary to have her dress taken in so that it would fit for her big day.

women are not the only ones seeing the outstanding effects of ultrasonic lipo. many men have come to Tolley for assistance with their problem areas as well. although she admits that the results in this case are extreme, one client lost nine inches off his waist in the first treatment session. “He had to hold up his pants as he left the office,” recalls Tolley. “although this isn’t a nor-mal result, it’s still exciting to have assisted someone in achieving such a remarkable change.”

Receive a FREE Gift!

2013 was a pivotal year for me – I got a divorce, moved, broke my heel for the second time in a year, and turned 40. But none of those were what shook me. What woke me up occurred during a meditation I had in April of 2013. In it, I received a powerful message: “you’re living the wrong life.”what did i do? i fought it, but the message kept coming back. over the next few months, i realized that my inner guidance – which i had ignored for decades – was right.although from the outside looking in it seemed as if i was living the ideal life – in actuality i was living an illusion. Yes, i had a good job that paid well. yes, i was married to a man i had been with for 21 years. yes, i lived in a place i loved. yes, i had two dogs who were my constant companions. yes, i was the person all of my friends and students looked up to and turned to for advice. But you know what was missing from that equation? me.Last spring, i realized that i’ve spent most of my life running from myself – what i had become. Because somewhere deep in my soul i knew this person – my stage name, so to speak – professor, researcher, coach, wife, etc. – wasn’t who i really was. That day in april of 2013 i made a decision: it was time to stop living somebody else’s life. yes, it was scary. yes, i’ve had ups and downs. But life is nothing if not a journey. What i first experienced as a rude awakening has turned out to be a divine gift. as i have reconnected with my intuition and helped others do the same. i have seen how being in touch with your intuition can transform your life – if you let it.

all you have to do is say yes!

A few years ago I began exploring the vast array of super foods on

the market and the foods we consume everyday that are also really super foods. I have always been interested in fitness and nutrition. When I was in my early twenties I became an accomplished racquetball enthusiast. In fact so much so that now I am embarrassed to say I couldn't get women to play with me because I was such a tenacious woman competitor. I entered these open tourna-ments and there was this older guy that I kept running into and he always had this mason jar with a green stuff in it. He almost always won his matches. He was slim, seemed to have way more energy than most men I knew that age, lots of

stamina and he was very powerful on the court. One time I finally got the courage to ask what the heck he was drinking. He was a vegetarian and drinking, kale, celery, cucumber, and spirulina juice. If you don’t know what that is it’s a blue green algae. He told me it cleared his head and gave him energy. It took me a decade before I really began to catch on to the theory of juicing vegetables and using super foods for energy. But I dabbled and over time began blending and eventually Juicing became part of my life.

Blending and juicing is very empowering. It is really the ultimate shortcut to tak-ing charge of your health. Losing weight becomes easier. Endurance increases and the eyes and skin become more clear as well as the head. The beautiful freshness and colors of the ingredients are a rainbow of light in your blender or juicer that enter your body and become part of you. Radiating and excit-ing every cell right to your very core. you are what you eat! The more you juice or blend the more you receive from the bounty of Mother Earth.

The fabulous thing is the ease at which these benefits can be accessed. The ingredients practically jump into the juicer on their own. I know, I can hear it now, “ Toni it’s the clean up”. But here is the deal, If you could heal yourself or win that race or simply have the energy to make it through the day everyday isn’t it worth it ? At some point each per-son needs to decide to take some responsibility for their health, their mind, their spirit. Isn’t a 5 or 10 minute cleanup very little to ask when the benefits are so vast? Revel in that first sip, and feel the super food smoothie or juice experience. your body will love you for it.

We have no way of knowing where we are headed as a species. But one thing I know for sure, we need energy and nutrients to live. And the difference between a mere existence and feeling vital,

in the summer of 2006, FAulT PARADox was formed. Boise, id metal musicians Terry Fetherolf (on bass) and vocalist Ryan gratton, searched the town over for the best players they could find to form a new project. Ryan recruited a former band mate, Leif Larson, to play guitar, and then continued their search to com-plete their team. showing an extreme natural talent, drummer Brett Peterson was an easy choice to steal from a local metal group. once Peterson was swayed

over to their band, the group assembled together and established themselves as Fault Paradox. Together, they quickly developed a unique style of rock and roll that they knew was their calling. with influences ranging from music by system of a Down, rage against the machine, Lamb of god, kill switch engage, and strapping young Lad, they created their own personal style of heavy music. Insurrection, their first studio album, captured the raw, intense energy of their in-ception. The second album is currently getting polished for recording and will hold the second chapter of the defiance-driven metal band upon its release in the fall of 2014. check iTunes for Insurrection on sale, as well as Face-book, Twitter, and Reverbnation for tour dates, releases, and news on upcoming events. it all started in the year 2000 when he was building his own home next to the fair grounds. he happened to come across a show booth featuring vanishing screen doors, and as he ex-amined the trick of the trade, he was hooked. he spent a good year with the company, but he realized that he needed to spread his wings and fly off on his own in order to give customers the best deal possible.

now, with a matchless resume and ex-tensive list of recommendations from

customers all over the state of idaho, mr. deBenedetti is the go-to guy for giving you the best screen doors possible. he’s an amazingly friendly man with a booming business—his screen doors are impeccable! The doors blend in perfectly to the frames, and with extensive amounts of shades to choose from, you are sure to find the color that best fits your home.

The screen door guy sells the matchless mirage doors; with a slight tug and pull, the retractable doors slide out and give a nearly invisible veil of protection against bugs and other pests. mr. deBenedetti even places a sticker in the middle of the door so you remember that there actually is something there. However, with a sturdy and flexible material, the screens are family and pet friendly and won’t break even if you do happen to walk into them. also, if you do break them, they are completely replace-able and the screen door guy is just a phone call away. in under twenty-four hours, your door will be perfectly fine once again.
