We take a proactive approach to trust management and administer numerous family trusts, foundations and grant making charities on behalf of our clients.

TRUST AND CHARITY MANAGEMENTWorking with our clients, we understand the commitment needed to effectively manage a family or charitable trust. For many, a trust has been in place for generations, and requires meticulous administration of detailed records. As a result, our aim is to relieve the burden of time-consuming and complex trust management by offering a fully bespoke service, including direct communication with trustees, beneficiaries, financial and other relevant professional advisers and HMRC.

We have many years of experience in managing trusts with a variety of different asset classes, including traded stock market investment portfolios, residential and commercial property, landed estates, trading companies and works of art. Services to trustees include:• administering trust assets;• monitoring investment performance and dealing with

investment managers;• advising on trustee duties and requirements;• advising trustees, attending meetings, liaising with

professionals;• preparing annual or periodic trust accounts;• advising on income tax, capital gains tax and

inheritance tax issues;• day-to-day book keeping;• making income and capital distributions;• income and capital gains tax returns;• dealing with the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act

(FATCA);• advising trustees and beneficiaries affected by the

French Finance Law of 2011;• inheritance tax returns; and• winding up trust arrangements.

In addition, the team also offers charity specific advice to grant giving trusts and foundations, including:• organising grant and award payments;• preparation and submission of annual returns;• preparation of the trustees’ annual reports;• drafting of trustees’ policy statements; and• dealing with gift aid and tax reclaims.

UK TAX COMPLIANCE FOR INDIVIDUALS AND TRUSTSWe advise individuals, beneficiaries and trustees, whether UK resident or non-resident, on completion of their annual income tax and capital gains tax returns and provide clear and practical advice on a range of tax compliance issues. Hamish Frost (Senior Trust Manager)E [email protected] T +44 (0)20 7227 3707Hamish heads up the trust management team in the private wealth department at the same time as managing his own large and diverse portfolio of trusts. Hamish deals with the UK tax compliance aspects for all relevant taxes affecting UK resident trusts, as well dealing with the day to day management of trust assets, with a particular focus on trustee investing. In addition to assisting UK trustees, Hamish advises a number of offshore trustees where they have UK resident beneficiaries. Hamish started his career with PwC in Jersey, where he spent five years looking after a portfolio of trusts and multinational special purpose vehicles before spending a short time working for an MRI international firm in Yorkshire. Hamish joined BDB in 2002.

Michelle completed the Graduate Diploma in Law at The College of Law and is now a Graduate Member of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives. Michelle joined BDB in 2006.

Julia started her career in the trust department of Chantrey Vellacott and joined BDB in 2013. She is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.

Paul Gallagher (Tax Director)E [email protected] T +44 (0)20 7783 3681Paul is the firm’s senior personal tax manager. He joined BDB in January 2000 and has more than 25 years’ taxation experience, having previously worked for firms of accountants after training with HMRC. His main focus is on personal taxation and he advises individuals with both a UK and foreign/offshore dimension. The latter include both resident and non-resident foreign domiciliaries. He also advises non-resident companies owning properties in the UK.
