Descriptive Annex

1 INTRODUCTION

This instrument utilises the digital indicating devices designated the Avery Weigh-Tronix

E1005/E1010 (Figures 1 and 2) connected to a weighing platform to form a Class III or IIII

mains operated self-indicating non-automatic weighing instrument.

2 FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

2.1 Devices

The Avery Weigh-Tronix E1005/E1010 digital weight indicators are fully described in Test

Certificate No. GB-1179.

2.2 Load receptor

The indicator can be connected to a weigh platform to form a complete weighing system

providing that the conditions of Section 2.3 are met.

Load receptor types may be chosen from Table 1 in Section 3.2.

2.3 Load cells

2.3.1 Load cells may be chosen from Table 2 in Section 3.2, or any compatible load

cell(s) may be used providing the following conditions are met:

− There is a respective OIML Certificate of Conformity (R60) or a test

certificate (EN45501) issued for the load cell by a Notified Body responsible

for type examination under Directive 2009/23/EC.

− The certificate contains the load cell types and the necessary load cell data

required for the manufacturer’s declaration of compatibility of modules

(WELMEC 2, Issue 5, 2009, No 11), and any particular installation

requirements. A load cell marked NH is allowed only if humidity testing to

EN45501 has been conducted on this load cell.

− The compatibility of the load cells and indicator is established by the

manufacturer by means of the compatibility of modules calculation, contained

in the above WELMEC 2 document, at the time of verification or declaration

of EC conformity of type.

− The load cell transmission must conform to one of the examples shown in the

WELMEC Guide 2.4, “Guide for Load cells”.

2.3.2 The load cell cable(s) may be either connected internally and permanently

fitted to the indicator, using the watertight glands, or connected externally using waterproof

bayonet connectors, which have provision for sealing, in place of the watertight glands.

Note: Not applicable to Model E1005.

4 PERIPHERAL DEVICES

4.1 The weighing system may be connected to any peripheral devices that have

been issued with a test certificate by a Notified Body responsible for type approval under

Directive 2009/23/EC in any Member State and bears the CE marking of conformity to the

relevant directives; or

Peripheral devices without a test certificate under the following conditions:

− it bears the CE marking for conformity to the EMC Directive;

− it is not capable of transmitting any data or instruction into the weighing

instrument, other than to release a printout, checking for correct data

transmission or validation;

− it prints weighing results and other data as received from the weighing

instrument without any modification or further processing;

− it complies with the applicable requirements of EN45501, i.e. 4.2, 4.4, 4.6 and

4.7.

4.2 Data storage device (DSD)

A data storage device (DSD) having a Test Certificate (TC) may be connected to The

weighing system if at conformity assessment for putting into service for an Article 1.2(a)

application, it is checked that the requirements 6.1, 6.2, 6.4, 6.5 and 6.6 of WELMEC 2.5,

Issue 2, 2000 are met.

The DSD must have sufficient capacity to store data for a minimum of 90 days after the data

has been used for invoicing.

5 APPROVAL CONDITIONS

The certificate is issued subject to the following conditions:

5.1 Legends and inscriptions

5.1.1 The instrument shall bear the following legends near the display of the

weighing result:

Max

Min

e =

5.1.2 The instrument shall bear the following legends (Figure 3):

CE marking

Verification mark

Green M

Class

Serial number

Manufacture’s mark or name

Certificate number

5.2 The E1005 indicator may be used for “direct sales to the public” if the

“Select” function key is inactive. The E1010 indicator may be used for “direct sales to the

public” if the pre-set tare device and “Select” function key are inactive.

5.3 A levelling device sensitive enough to display a 2/1000 tilt shall be fixed

firmly to the weighing instrument in a place clearly visible to the user, unless the instrument

is freely suspended or installed in a fixed position.

6 LOCATION OF SEALS AND VERIFICATION MARKS

6.1 The CE mark, Green M and Certificate number will be mounted on the rear of

the indicator. The data plate will be mounted in such a manner that it is easily accessible and

clearly visible in its regular operating position. The CE mark shall be impossible to remove

without damaging it. The data plate shall be impossible to remove without it being destroyed.

The markings and inscriptions shall fulfil the requirements of Paragraph 1 of Annex IV of the

Directive 2009/23/EC.

6.2 Access to the configuration and calibration facility is password protected as

detailed in GB-1179.

Alternatively, access can be via a push button located on the rear of the instrument (E1005),

which is accessed by removing the switch cover plate, or on the main PCB (E1010), which is

accessed by removing the front cover of the enclosure. The switch cover plate and the

enclosure(s) can be sealed using a wire and lead seal. N.B. only one of these methods will be

present on an instrument.

Components that may not be dismantled or adjusted by the user (e.g. load cell connection),

and load cell junction boxes where applicable, will be secured by either a wire and lead seal

or tamper evident label and securing mark. The securing mark may be either:

− a mark of the manufacturer and/or manufacturer’s representative, or

− an official mark of a verification officer.

7 ALTERNATIVES

7.1 The indicator may bear the following alternative manufacturers name and

model:

− Salter Brecknell Dp 90 (plastic) or Dp 95 (stainless steel).

7.2 The indicator may be mounted on a simple fold-away stand, a swivel mounted

stand, or an extended stand for wall mounted applications.

7.3 The Avery 8701 load cell approved under this type approval certificate is

technically compatible and freely interchangeable with the Avery T302, T302i and T302x

load cells. Any weighing instrument verified under this approval may incorporate a mix of

8701, T302, T302i and T302x load cells.
