It was in the front of the Memorial Park and was removed when the City built the new City Office. Well, we are now getting ready to put the stone back in the park. If you look at the back of the stone be- low, you will see that there is room for more names. Here is your chance to get your ancestors name etched on the stone, to be remembered and honored forever. Our ancestors represent a unique and distinct group of individuals that deserve a symbol of recognition, a visual emblem of honor. This stone is that emblem. You can pickup the form at City Hall to fill out to get their name added. All we need from you is the form or their history and a picture. Turn the information back into the City by November 30th and VOILA it will happen. Their story will also be added to our Hall Of Fame book with all the other stories of those who have been previ- ously etched in the stone. Don’t miss this opportunity. If you have any questions, you can call Sue Bybee. Many moons ago, when I was a young lad working at the nursery. I sold a beautiful peony plant that was getting ready to bloom to a delightful older couple. The couple took the peony plant home and after awhile noticed that there were ants in the pot. Their focus centered on those ants and getting rid of them. They bought ant killer, tried numerous other things that people told them to do, and eventually the ants died or went somewhere else. but so did the beautiful peonies. Later the customers came back and told me that I had sold them a pot of ants. They explain what happened and how they worked to kill the ants so their peonies could grow, eventually killing the plant. Devastated, I rounded up Basil and we talked to the customers. What happened was the sap in the peonies was com- ing down the stem and so the ants were going up and down the stem pollinating the plant so that it could bloom and grow into a beautiful plant. The customers re- alized that they had become so focused on the ants that they killed the peonies. Sometimes we become so focused on the negative side of things that we can’t see the positive side. We need to help others bloom in their own personal gar- dens, and forget about the negativity.

MAYOR’S MESSAGE HALL OF FAME STONE

Remember, way back in 2003, when the City put up the Hall of Fame Stone? It was in the front of the Memorial Park and was removed when the City built the new City Office. Well, we are now getting ready to put the stone back in the park. If you look at the back of the stone be-low, you will see that there is room for more names.

IN MEMORY OF

TED G. COMBE “A GOOD MAN DRIVEN”Ted Combe, passed away in January 2010. In 1955, as partners with Basil they bought Valley Nursery together. They grew fruit and shade trees with some Spruce and Pine Trees. Ted and Basil work together until 1957 when Ted decided to open his own nursery on some land near Washington Terrace.

Ted has always had a love for Uintah, it has held a special place in his heart that he shared with his wife, Glenna. In his memory, Glenna wanted to do something special in Uintah to preserve his memory. She provided the material and Jeff Holden did the work to create a special spot at the Memorial Park in his memory.

In the picture is Julie Combe, daughter; Dick and Pris-cilla Frost; old school friends; Glenna Combe; and Jeff Holden.

FIRE DEPARTMENT, DAVE BOOTHE

Our department members recently had the op-portunity to participate in a "live-fire" training exercise, courtesy of South Weber Fire Depart-ment. They used a home that was going to be torn down for this exercise. Small fires were started in various rooms, and our firefighters then entered the home and extinguished the fire with hose lines. This gives the firefighters first hand experience to see how a fire burns and then to practice the methods to contain and put the fire out. It also gives us training on our air breathing packs and how to manage the air we have in them. Mike Marz, Kirk Combe, Dane Larsen, and Colton Bybee participated. These opportunities seldom come our way and we ap-preciate South Weber Fire for the invitation. As we approach the Fall Season and the change back to Standard Time, we encourage all residence to clean out (remove those little dead spiders), check, test, and replace the old batteries inside your smoke detectors. We want everyone to be safe and have a functioning detector in their home. If assistance is needed, contact the department and we'll be glad to help you. It is also recommended that you check your furnace, replace the filters, and make sure your furnace/water heater flue is clean from all obstructions. As the colder weather arrives and we begin to close up our homes, we want to make sure everyone is safe from carbon monox-ide problems.
