. synopsis Gina and Marco are very young and determined to become “someone”. They meet one morning in some mystified Roman outskirts. She has an appointment with a politician that could put in a good word for her to enter the show business world, he is the driver that is supposed to accompany her to the meeting. It is the occasion they were both waiting for. The first day of work. The chance to enter the adult’s world. But nothing goes as planned. The politician, busy in a parliamentary session that keeps prolonging, postpones the meeting numerous times leaving Gina and Marco in an awaiting limbo that will soon turn into a special day. A day that will drive them from the outskirts to the heart of the capital, during which time the two get to know each others. Still, the immediate future is lurking and ready to get them. Right when Marco and Gina have unmasked, entering each others skin, forgetting everything – even that meeting that just a couple of hours before seemed so crucial to both of them – the long awaited phone call arrives, falling like a brick on their heads. Later, when Marco drives Gina home, the night has fallen and so has silence between them. Their lives have changed.

. director’s notes I wanted to make a simple and dry film, seemingly spontaneous to the point of appearing almost neglected. Actually, it is a film that has been very much written and built, although the window of opportunities has been left open to change, to people and to the city, to the here and now of the moment I was filming. I wished to make a film on two kids from the outskirts and their journey to the center of the city. Telling about their day with little touches, and with some sort of a narrative easiness that would incidentally become tighter and tighter. Making a film that would be both precise and easy. Precise in the description of the characters and of the city. Easy in the tone, because life belongs to Marco and Gina, to their age and to their youthful vitality. A rapid film for its narrative arc - one single day – and for the rhythm of the depiction. It seemed as though this was the only way for me to succeed in captivating something that, with ease and rapidity, has taken over our lives and our country, making them heavy and timeless. FRANCESCA COMENCINI

direction, story and screenplay

Director, screenwriter and novelist, Francesca was born in Rome in August 1961. Born into film royalty, her father is the great Luigi Comencini and her sisters are Paola and Cristina Comencini. She directs her first film Pianoforte (1984) in France where she lived for eighteen years. Pianoforte was based on the story of two young drug-addicts and won the Premio De Sica at the Venice International Film Festival. Thereafter she collaborates with her father Luigi on the screenwriting of Un ragazzo di Calabria. Subsequently she approaches documentaries with the direction of Elsa Morante (1995), Shakespeare a Palermo (1997) on a mise-en-scene by Carlo Cecchi, Carlo Giuliani, ragazzo (2002) based on the Genoa G8 events and In fabbrica (2007). Amongst her narrative films are Le parole di mio padre (2001), Mi piace lavorare - Mobbing (2004) e Lo spazio bianco (2009). Francesca lives in Rome.

Giulia Valentini was born on 5th April 1992 in Rome, where she lives. She has an Artistic high-school Diploma from the Liceo Artistico Statale Giorgio De Chirico; she played volleyball for 5 years with the Amaldi Volley. She has a dog, Bonf, who is a mix between an Italian Spinone and a Setter, and she loves reptiles. Giulia likes painting, going out with friends to go to the cinema or to go dancing. She currently works in a call-center. UN GIORNO SPECIALE by Francesca Comencini is her first film.

story and screenplay Giulia Calenda wrote, among other things, the screenplay for Cristina Comencini’s Il più bel giorno della mia vita winner of the “Globo d’oro” and the “Nastro d’argento” for best screenplay, Cristina Comencini’s Don’t Tell Oscars nominated for best foreign film and Luca Lucini’s Solo un Padre. In 2012 Giulia wrote the screenplay for Stefano Mordini’s Acciaio and for Francesca Comencini’s Un giorno speciale. She also wrote for television, among other things, Squadra antimafia (Canale 5) and Tutta la verità (Rai Uno).

LUCA BIGAZZI

director of photography Luca Bigazzi was born in Milan in 1958. From 1977 he worked for a few years as an assistant director shooting adverts, all the while cultivating his passion for photography. In 1983 he begin his collaboration with Silvio Soldini with his first assignment as cinematographer on the black and white Paesaggio con figure, presented in competition at the Locarno Film Festival. Artistic production: GIACOMO DE CATERINI Recordings carried out at R&C Studios in Rome Misuc mix by DANIELE ZAZZA Mix carried out at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome Musical Editions Palomar Music Stefano Ratchev was the first cello of the youth orchestra of the Arts Academy of Rome and has collaborated with various International Orchestras orchestras. He works as a composer for ad agencies, shorts and documentaries. He participated to electronic music and contemporary arts events as a composer and DJ. He was part of the Revhertz (cello and guitar) band with whom he released the “Buongiorno” (Altipiani/Goodfellas, 2006) cd. Mattia Carratello, guitarist and composer, has been part of the bands Okkai Pears (Nota Bene, BMG Ariola, 1987), Stranumore (rap-rock) and of the music and literature multimedia band Vox Libris, with whom he released “Vox Libris” (Scena aperta/Comune di Roma, 1996) and “Racconti elettrolitici” (Luca Sossella Editore, 2003) cds He was part of the Revhertz, collaborated with Rai Radio 3 (Storyville) and is a contemporary narrative editor for a well-known publishing house.
