Non-native (“exotic”) plants are those that have become part of our flora since European colonization, beginning in 1513. There currently are several hundred non-native species found in Florida. An invasive plant is a non-native plant species that is able to spread on its own, causing environmental or economic harm. The plants depicted on this photo mural have been known to cause problems in Florida’s public waters and conservation lands. All of these plants are targeted for control by
the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission / Invasive Plant Management Section. For more information: http://plants.ifas.ufl.edu/guide/ UF/IFAS is evaluating these and other plants for their potential invasiveness in various regions of the state. For the latest evaluations, see the UF/IFAS Assessment of the Status of Non-Native Plants in Florida’s Natural Areas: http://plants.ifas.ufl.edu/assessment/
