Countdown to your big dayWeddings take a lot of planning and you’ll have plenty of things to remember. Stay relaxed by getting organised with our useful checklist.

To start with…• Tell relatives and friends about your

engagement• Set your wedding date• Decide on a civil ceremony or church• Choose and book a registrar on the date you want• Decide on your budget• Decide on the number of guests you will

be inviting• Choose your witnesses, bridesmaid and

groomsmen• Book your photographer/videographer• Arrange your wedding insurance• Start searching for that dream dress• Order cake• Book your disco/band• Send a ‘save the date’ invitation

Six months to go• Arrange to give notice of your intent to

marry at your local registration office• Organise your bridesmaid dresses• Book your honeymoon and ensure your

passports are valid• Arrange transport• Discuss flowers and book florist• Consult hair stylists and make-up artists• Finalise guest list, order invitations and

additional stationery (e.g. order of service)• Plan your evening entertainment

Three months to go• Confirm your ceremony details with the

registrar/minister• Choose your wedding music• Notify your bank, building society

and relevant authorities if you intend changing your name and on which date it will take effect

• Post invitations and advise guests about overnight accommodation

• Order wedding rings• Ensure the groom and his attendants

have outfits organised• Finalise menu and drink selections• Choose your vows, music and readings

and send to registrars• Organise your hen/stag do


One month to go• Design your seating plan• Arrange for a final fitting• Test run hair and make-up• Provide a list of required shots to

photographer• Prepare your speeches

Last two weeks• Chase up late replies and confirm final

guest numbers with reception venue• Prepare speeches• Hold a rehearsal• Practice walking in your wedding shoes

Last week• Have a final dress fitting• Collect any hired items• Have a manicure and pedicure• Try and spend some relaxing time with

Dress• Can I book an appointment to try on

dresses?• Will you charge for this appointment?• Is there a maximum number of dresses I
