Particle Systems

Particles are points that display as dots, streaks, spheres, blobby surfaces, or other objects

Particles can be animated the displayed and moved

using various techniques e.g. keys, expressions, and

fields such as gravity

UFCEKT-20-33D Modelling and Animation

Creating Particles

Use the create particle tool

Create and emitter to generate and animate the motion

of particles automatically

Create new particles via collision with each other

Use goals - an object that particles follow or move

toward - e.g swarm effects

Fields

Fields are forces that you use to animate the motion

of particles, soft bodies, and rigid bodies

Object fields

Owned by the object and exert influence from the object

Volume fields Define a space where particles or rigid bodies are affected by the field

UFCEKT-20-33D Modelling and Animation

Types of Fields

Air, Drag, Gravity, Newton, Radial Turbulence Radial,

Vortex

A gravity field simulates the Earth's gravitational force. It

accelerates objects in a fixed direction

Volume Axis - use the Volume Axis field to create effects such as

particles flowing around obstacles, solar flares, mushroom clouds,

explosions, tornadoes, and rocket exhaust.

Soft and Rigid Bodies

You can recreate a geometric object as a flexible

object called a soft body. You can use various

animation techniques to make the soft body bend,

ripple, and bulge like soft objects in nature.

Effects

Maya effects are built-in programs that make it easy

to create complex animation effects such as smoke

and fire. Each Maya effect has parameters and

attributes for tuning the results

Effects include fire, smoke, fireworks lightning

Also a range of fluid effects e.g. water, lava

Fur

Maya Fur is a component of Maya Unlimited that you use to

create realistic, self-shadowing fur and short hair on multi-

surface NURBS, polygonal and subdivision surface models.

Fur attributes include color, width, length, baldness, opacity,

scraggle, curl, and direction globally, or map them on a local

basis.

Hair

Maya Fur is a component of Maya Unlimited that you use to

create realistic, self-shadowing fur and short hair on multi-

surface NURBS, polygonal and subdivision surface models.

Fur attributes include color, width, length, baldness, opacity,

scraggle, curl, and direction globally, or map them on a local

basis.

nCloth

nCloth is a system of linked particles to simulate a

wide variety of dynamic polygon surfaces

fabric clothing, inflating balloons, shattering surfaces,

and deformable objects

UFCEKT-20-33D Modelling and Animation

Using Effects

Too many effects in a scene may cause unexpected

results and / or degrade system performance

Some effects can have various uses other than their

intend application e.g nCloth for rigid body dynamics

Maya Live

Maya Live simplifies match moving—where you

match the camera or object movement of a live-

action shot

Using Maya live requires matching maya camera

settings (film back) to the required broadcast format

i.e. NTSC or PAL
