  • Project Reflection Sheet for UDL Educators Checklist

How did you use technology to implement the 9 UDL guidelines? Explain in the nine boxes below. Resave the file as Group # UDL checklist

    I. Provide Multiple Means of Representation: Your notes

    1. Provide options for perception 1.1 Information will be displayed in a variety of ways. Students will have the opportunity to look at websites using QR Codes, do an activity using the Promethean Board and students will also be provided a worksheet. 1.2 Information will be predominately visual. Students will be able to visually look at information in order to complete the activity as well as engage in a discussion where the Promethean Board is used. 1.3 Information will be presented visually in many different forms and through a variety of devices including smartphones and Promethian boards.

1.1 Offer ways of customizing the display of information

1.2 Offer alternatives for auditory information

1.3 Offer alternatives for visual information

    2. Provide options for language, mathematical expressions, and symbols

2.5 Students will be able to scan QR Codes in order to view the information on the computer through a website. They will be given a worksheet with a chart to record their information. Students will then engage in a summary discussion using ActiveInpire to view information on the Promethean Board.

    2.1 Clarify vocabulary and symbols

    2.2 Clarify syntax and structure

2.3 Support decoding of text, and mathematical notation, and symbols

    2.4 Promote understanding across language

    2.5 Illustrate through multiple media

    3. Provide options for comprehension 3.1 The main topic of this activity is the 13 Colonies. Students will be reminded of what the 13 Colonies are in terms of U.S. History and how they preceded the 50 States that we know today. 3.2 The big idea of the thirteen colonies is the main feature that will be highlighted throughout the lesson. 3.3 ActiveInspire will be used as a guided model in order for a class discussion to be held and effective. Students will be able to match the colony name that they researched to the colony state on the map in order to provide a visual summary of the activity for the students.

3.1 Activate or supply background knowledge

3.2 Highlight patterns, critical features, big ideas, and relationships

3.3 Guide information processing, visualization, and manipulation

    3.4 Maximize transfer and generalization

II. Provide Multiple Means for Action and Expression: Your notes

    4. Provide options for physical action 4.1 Students will have the ability to express knowledge through a flipchart activity, Wixie project, and worksheet

4.1 Vary the methods for response and navigation

4.2 Optimize access to tools and assisstive technologies

    5. Provide options for expression and communication 5.1 Students will be able to communicate their findings in a variety of ways. They will also be able to do this through many different media forms and tools. 5.2 There will be several tools for students to construct words with prefixes.

5.1 Use multiple media for communication

5.2 Use multiple tools for construction and composition

5.3 Build fluencies with graduated labels of support for practice and performance

  • 6. Provide options for executive functions 6.1 After discussing the objective for the day, the teacher can provide the students with questions to predict. Also the teacher will tell the students what they will know by the end. 6.4 The teacher will be able to monitor technology use to make sure they are being used appropriately.

    6.1 Guide appropriate goal setting

6.2 Support planning and strategy development

6.3 Facilitate managing information and resources

6.4 Enhance capacity for monitoring progress

III. Provide Multiple Means for Engagement: Your notes

    7. Provide options for recruiting interest 7.1 Students are given a task that is to be completed with a partner, and then assessed on what they have learned by sharing it with the class. Everyone has a chance to participate and share. 7.2 Each component of the lesson ties to the central idea of the thirteen colonies; therefore, remaining relevant and meaningful to the assignment. 7.3 A chart will be given to each student to help them organize their information.

7.1 Optimize individual choice and autonomy

7.2 Optimize relevance, value, and authenticity

    7.3 Minimize threats and distractions

    8. Provide options for sustaining effort and persistence

8.1 The objective will be displayed on the Promethean board so that the students can understand the purpose of todays lesson. 8.2 The students are challenged to fill out the worksheet on their own and scan the QR codes themselves. 8.3 Students are placed in groups and then we meet together to share the information that we have gathered. This information will also help the class complete a final activity together.

8.1 Heighten salience of goals and objectives

8.2 Vary demands and resources to optimize challenge

    8.3 Foster collaboration and community

    8.4 Increase mastery-oriented feedback

    9. Provide options for self-regulation 9.1 Students are expected to get up and move around the classroom for the majority of the activity, thus providing students with the motivation to complete the assignment. 9.3 Students receive a chart to help keep them organized and focused on the task at hand.

9.1 Promote expectations and beliefs that optimize motivation

9.2 Facilitate personal coping skills and strategies

    9.3 Develop self-assessment and reflection

How did you integrate technology into the goals, materials, methods, and assessment for this lesson to improve students understanding of content?

We integrated technology by using a helpful, educational website. The website is geared towards younger students, so the language isnt too difficult, there are many images and a timeline, the layout is also very easy to understand. We are also using QR codes that will be posted throughout the classroom. This will increase the involvement of the students because they will be getting up and moving around and using technology to scan the code. We also have a Flipchart, which contains a final activity where the students will be able to come up to the board and demonstrate what they have learned.

What technology was used? By whom? Why was this appropriate technology to integrate?

Promethean Board- teacher and students. This was appropriate because this gave the students a chance to demonstrate what they have learned.

  • Activeinspire- teacher and students. Students that are visual and kinesthetic learners will get to see where the states are located and see them in reference to Maryland.

Website- students. This was appropriate because all the information that they needed would be easily found here. The information on the website is displayed or organized in a manner that would be understandable for fifth graders.

QR codes- teacher and students. This allowed the students to be more involved by using another form of technology and this way the answer (the state) wasnt given to them so easily; therefore, they had to work a little harder.
