Faculty and trainees may supervise trainees ◦ Progressive responsibility ◦ Interns are required to have direct or indirect supervision at all times; day after “oversight” is not permitted
Duty Hours 80 hours per week, including all moonlighting
One day off in seven (including home call)
Maximum duty period length: PGY1=16; 24 + 4 for others
Minimum time off between scheduled duty periods
Night float no more than six consecutive nights
In-house call no more than every third night
At-home call must not preclude rest; counts toward 80 hour per
week maximum, but not in the shift break
Reporting accurately is part of UCSF professionalism

Fatigue Mitigation Jeopardy/back up call schedules,
strategic napping, etc. Adequate sleep facilities and safe
transportation options for those who are too fatigued to drive home
