The Daily Campus

The Daily Campus is in its 116th year of publication, having started in 1896. It has five departments for students to work in; News, Focus, Sports, Photography and Commentary. The DC employs nearly 150 students, according to Managing Editor Mac Cerullo.

UCTV has seven departments for interested students to work in; Entertainment, Sports, News, UCSPAN, Marketing, Advertising and Finance. It employs roughly 75 students, said Bill Pritchard, who films and edits for the network.

WHUS has run for between 80 and 90 years under different names; initially, it was an experiment with the then-new radio technology. The radio station employs ten students and three professionals, according to Barbara Becker, a financial assistant at WHUS.

The UConn Free Press

The Free Press' seventh issue of 2011 Copies of its fourth issue on the newsstand in the Student Union

The UConn Free Press is a student-run magazine that began publication in 1969, according to the Dodd Center. A human rights group on campus, the Free Press is an outlet for alternative political issues with more than a dozen student writers; recent issues have been dedicated to activist issues such as education reform and marijuana legislation. Its writers also have a weekly radio program on WHUS.

One of many student-run blogs and websites at UConn, HerCampus is dedicated to a female-oriented view of campus, with articles about students and campus life. HerCampus came to UConn in the spring of 2010, and currently has about eight writers, said Liz Crowley, a writer for the website.
