Welcome to the School of Health On behalf of all the staff within the School of Health I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the BSc Honours Pre-Registration Nursing course which commences on
Monday 8th September 2014. We sincerely hope you enjoy your studies, however there is a lot of important information contained within this brochure that you need to read through and act upon so that you are fully prepared for the start of the course and your future Nursing career. Please Note: “If the offer that you are holding is conditional upon
passing academic qualifications, then it will remain conditional un-til we have been notified that you have achieved the necessary qualifications - you will only be able to commence the course when we have confirmed, via UCAS, that your offer is unconditional” Please continue to make preparations to commence the course.
Included in this e-brochure:
1. Important DBS (formerly CRB) and Occupational Health information that needs to be actioned before you can access any clinical place-ments.
2. NHS Bursary Information
3. How to enrol onto the Course
We look forward to meeting you and send you our good wishes

Summer 2013 Volume 1, Issue 1
We will notify the NHS Bursary that you have started the course, providing that you have enrolled on the course and have signed to say you are here.
After we have notified them (usually on day 2 or 3 of the course)
your first bursary payment will be made to you within 10 days (provided the NHS Bursary have received your completed BOSS forms and all supporting evidence).
New students, apart from Medical/Dental, always receive a dou-
ble bursary instalment in the first month to assist with those initial costs when starting your course with the next payment following in month 3.
Bursary payments (apart from your first) are made on the third
Friday of each month directly into the bank account details you supplied on BOSS.
There is no need to wait until you have a confirmed place, apply for your finance now by registering here: http://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/Students/4002.aspx

Reapplying for your bursary next year
All students must reapply for their bursary each academic year.
You will be informed of your deadline in the future. This infor-
mation will also be available on the NHS Bursary website and
NHS Bursaries Facebook page nearer the time.
Once you have created a BOSS account you should never create
a duplicate as this could result in your course fees not being
paid. To reapply for your bursary next year you should log onto
your BOSS account using your existing log in details and then
click on the link “apply/reapply for an NHS bursary”.
• If you do not reapply for your bursary each academic year, your
bursary payments will not continue automatically.

Due to the number of students starting per intake, we have to break you down into small teaching groups. You will be in these groups for the full 3 years of the course.
We set groups up based on your current location where possible. We aim to have your small group set up for you prior to the start
of the course so that your full on-line timetable is correct. If you are already making car share arrangements or wish to be in
a group with someone else you know who is starting the course please contact us on [email protected] and we will put you on the group allocation waiting list and try to accommodate your request.
Please check out the University’s car share scheme here: https://www.uclan.ac.uk/students/life/travel.php

Frequently Asked Questions:
“I'm already undertaking a DBS do I need to complete another?”
Yes you will need to complete a form which shows that you are a student Nurse.
“The Health Assessment Form is in Blackpool, will my placements be in Blackpool?”
No, the Occupational Health Main Office is situated in Blackpool and does not reflect where your placements will be.
“I’ve not had a validation e-mail?”
The University system automatically sends out validation e-mails when your offer on a place is made firm. Sometimes if your e-mail has been on the system a while it does not generate a validation e-mail automatically. Please e-mail [email protected] and we will re-add your e-mail address to generate the validation e-mail.
“I haven’t got my exam results yet, should I start preparing?”
Yes, it’s helpful to start to prepare for the course early. You can apply for Student Finance & NHS Bursary funding now.
