What do You Know about Khalifa University?
Khalifa University is an independent, non-profit, coeduca-onal ins-tu-on inaugurated in 2007 as
part of an Abu Dhabi Government ini-a-ve. Khalifa University is supported by the UAE govern-
ment and owned en-rely by the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. With campuses in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah,
Khalifa University is dedicated to the advancement of learning through teaching and research
and to the discovery and applica-on of knowledge. It endeavors to be an interna-onally recog-
nized research university, with a world class reputa-on for interdisciplinary teaching and re-
search and a tradi-on of partnering with leading academic ins-tu-ons from around the world.
The University is modeled around the American system of higher educa-on and is ac-vely devel-
oping an interna-onal network of partners, faculty members, and research programs to advance
regionally relevant research and innova-on in the UAE and the region at large.
The Emirate of Abu Dhabi has embarked on a bold vision to develop a vibrant and regionally rele-
vant knowledge economy. With a strong emphasis on science, technology and innova-on, Khalifa
University will align its academic offerings, research programs and mission very closely with that
economic transforma-on. Specific strategic sectors of the UAE economy that the university is fo-
cusing its efforts around are Informa-on and Communica-on Technology (ICT), Aerospace,
Transport & Logis-cs, Energy & the Environment, Healthcare and Security.
Currently, Khalifa University enrolls over 1300 students studying in several specialized engineer-
ing programs, all of which have been accredited by the Ministry of Higher Educa-on, UAE. Ten
undergraduate engineering-based programs and 9 graduate degree programs, six of undergrad-
uate degree programs are accredited by the Engineering Accredita-on Commission of ABET .
Khalifa University will be undergoing a drama-c change in the coming years as the demand for
higher educa-on in the UAE con-nues to grow. In line with the objec-ves of the Abu Dhabi Vi-
sion 2030, Khalifa University has begun construc-on on a campus expansion project that will see
the school expand by 132,000 sqm by 2016.
Message from Student himself:
I am a graduate student in Interna-onal Re-
la-ons at Boston University. I recently com-
pleted Summer 2016 Internship for two
months at the United Na-ons. I was
a1ached to the Office of the Permanent
Mission of the United Arab Emirates to the
United Na-ons in New York. During the In-
ternship, I was fortunate to par-cipate the
UNGA 71stst
session and I was charged with
two important tasks:
1.) Media schedules and Management.
Together with the Media Team-
Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) I assisted the team to coordinate schedules, plans
news releases and news coverage back to MOFA.
2) Par-cipa-ng in the Youth Delega-on: The second task involved par-cipa-on with the
Youth Delega-on and the Youth Circle. I par-cipated in the various youth events,
mee-ngs and programs held with youth from all around the world.
This internship provided me with the great opportuni-es to understand interna-onal poli-
-cs, business, research, networking, team work and the opera-on of the UAE Permanent
Mission.
A1ending with our Ministers deepened my knowledge on UAE poli-cal posi-ons and poli-
cies on many issues at the interna-onal level. I would like to thank HH Sheikh Abdulla Bin
Zayed AlNahyan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Permanent Mission of the UAE for
gran-ng me access and all the opportuni-es. To HE Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh, HE Am-
bassador Yousef AlOtaiba, and the all diplomats involved, my deepest gra-tude for the
very valuable experience offered to me.
Student Majid Eisa AlNuaimi get the honor
to meet with H.E. Sheikh Abdulla Bin Zayed
AL-Nahyan The Minister of Forign Affairs During his Internship at UNITED NATION & Par8cipa8on
United Na8on General Assembly (UNGA) 71st
Session
I am an undergraduate student majoring in Aerospace Engineer-
ing. Besides my study, I have taken the opportunity to take a set of
trainings and mentorship, such as quality management fundamentals,
Human Resources Strategies and Methods, Developing
an Effective Resume and Global Leadership training.
The objective is to learn the set of knowledge that can
help boost my career when coming back home. For
three years, I have been blessed to live in Auburn at
proximity to Auburn University home to American
Southern Football. From one side, I learnt a lot about the American So-
thern culture and I benefit from the activities that take place within the
city.
In addition, since I started school at Tuskegee University, I joined
several communities. The cultural activities took another path that I
started organizing events, such as being part an international food fes-
tival within the my university. All in all, Extracurricular activities can
boost students’ resumes but need a great deal of time management
and organization. Fortunately, I have managed my time and learned
how to use the available resources in place.
In conclusion, I always consider myself as an ambassador of my
country representing its great nation and its wonderful culture. For
that, I urge all emirates students who are studying abroad to show the
world how a great and amazing is UAE.
My Experience: Hamad Al Ali
Pennsylvania State University offers a number of programs in the fields of sustainability
and renewable energy. At the Bachelor’s level, Penn State offers a degree in Environmen-
tal Systems Engineering. According to the university: The program is unique as it is de-
signed to address cri-cal environmental, safety and health problems of the basic indus-
tries such as those involved in the extrac-on, conversion, and u-liza-on of energy and
mineral resources. The courses are sequenced so that students acquire an appropriate
blend of theory, applica-ons, and design and are equipped with the fundamentals neces-
sary to maintain lifelong professional growth.
This degree could prepare students for the fast-growing fields of sustainable energy and
environmentally-conscious engineering. Penn State also offers a Bachelor’s degree in Bio-
Renewable Systems. This program prepares students for careers or graduate programs in
science, engineering or business.
The BioRenewable Systems (BRS) program uniquely prepares students to solve 21st cen-
tury problems and a1ain careers in both tradi-onal sectors and those rela-ng to the
emerging bioeconomy. Students in this program will secure: (1) knowledge of fundamen-
tal sciences related to resources, processes, and products in biorenewable systems; (2)
communica-on and managerial skills relevant to careers in product development, tech-
nology, sales, marke-ng and management; and (3) the ability to apply systems analysis
skills, posi-oning them for effec-ve problem solving and leadership in the agricultural
and bioproducts industries.
The University of Southern California offers a Master of Science in Green Technologies
which
emphasizes green systems and the environment, energy technology and efficiency, and
sustainability and society. The discipline seeks opportuni-es for alterna-ve sourcing, con-
serva-on, efficiency and repurposing through an understanding of product life cycles
from origins to recycling or inevitable disposal. Green technologists will design products,
processes and complex infrastructure systems to promote sustainable a1ributes of im-
portance to the environment and the global community.
Green Programs
Here at the Cultural Division, we are very proud of all the hard work our scholarship students
put into their academic work. As we head into finals season, here are some Dos and Don’ts to
help you finish the semester strong!
DON’T: Subs8tute caffeine for a good night’s sleep!
While it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the workload ap-
proaching finals, it’s important to maintain a regular
sleep schedule, and caffeine can make it hard to focus
and reduce the benefits of studying.
DO: Get plenty of rest. While you may have tons of
studying today, those all-nighters may do more harm
than good. Make sure to get plenty of sleep (around 8 hours) in order for your brain to consoli-
date memories
DON’T: Wait un8l the last minute to complete assign-
ments or start reviewing. Most professors will have all
the deadlines for end-of-semester assignments listed in
the syllabus. Be sure to review these dates so you don’t
get caught off guard
DO: Create a study schedule and start making outlines.
Organizing all of your due dates and assignments in one
place can help you to allocate your -me wisely. Focus on the subjects you have trouble with and
save the easiest ones for last.
DON’T: Think you’re all alone. Finals can be a stressful
-me for everyone; don’t feel the need to go it alone
DO: Use your university resources and the Cultural Di-
vision if you need help! If you’re having trouble in a
course, try reaching out to fellow students to form a
study group, or asking professors for addi-onal re-
sources. Most universi-es offer many academic and
emo-onal support services free of charge for students,
and as always we’re happy to offer any help we can
here at the Cultural Division.
Never give up!
