Are You Interested in an Architecture Career…? Article below is courtesy of The Good Universities Guide, Education Blog, 28 April 2021

5 Reasons Why: Architect

Architects use creativity and a practical understanding of structures and materials to develop concepts, plans, specifications and detailed drawings for buildings and other structures. They negotiate with builders and planning authorities, administer building contracts and inspect work that has been carried out.

A good architect tends to have an aptitude for design, creativity, have a logical approach to problem-solving, and good communication skills, and strong writing and drawing skills. If this applies to you, a career in architecture could be worth considering.

Below, we list five benefits of working in the field of architecture.

1. Varied and interesting work

Strict deadlines and multiple projects running simultaneously mean architects usually have their hands full, and work in a high-intensity environment. There’s also a wide range of designs that architects do for people and businesses in addition to neighbourhood houses and office spaces. City buildings and interesting new ideas ensure architecture is constantly offering different kinds of experiences and tasks.

2. Great tangible rewards

Although it may take years of hard work to make it into the industry, there’s a high level of satisfaction that comes with the job. Architects can achieve a clear sense of the impact they have had on a space through their designs. Imagine seeing a building you designed scraping the clouds across a city skyline or learning how much a family enjoys inhabiting a house you have drawn up.

Page 7: UAC Information

3. It offers a great creative outlet

From the arduous studying required get into the field to the fast-paced nature of the job, there’s no doubt that architecture can be a stressful occupation. But spending afternoons turning your vision into a design can be highly satisfying and a great way to flex your creative muscles.

4. Enticing perks

As a highly sought-after profession, it’s unsurprising that architecture has an above average salary. Job Outlook data estimates the median weekly wage at $1,674, which is well above average. It’s also a diverse career pathway that can take you all over the world and into the medical, law, business and sports industries.

5. You’ll help improves the lives of others

Along with the satisfaction of seeing your visions come to life, the work of an architect also has a massive impact on people using the spaces they have designed. There’s no feeling quite like the completion of a project, the knowledge that families are enjoying your houses or seeing the transformation of a new hospital wing you helped bring to life.

Knowing I was writing for an audience of university students took me back to my own time at uni, a time when I was flooded with conflicting feelings and emotions about my level of self-confidence. Sometimes I felt confident and sure of myself when studying for an exam or submitting an assignment, while at other times I felt like I was never going to get through it (which I eventually did). https://social.usq.edu.au/wellbeing/blogs/boost-self-confidence-cathy Engineering Pathways at US Universities The US university system lends itself to academic exploration before locking in an area to study, however, engineering is one degree that students usually need to declare at point of application. Engineering programs are both competitive in gaining admission and rigorous in academic nature. As with most things in the US higher education system, students are spoiled for choice with options at liberal arts and science colleges (LAC) and research and technical universities offering Engineering degrees. Both models are outlined briefly below. The degree earned, regardless if pursued through a LAC or a research or technical university, will hold the same name: Bachelor of Science in Engineering. That said, the experience and opportunities in earning the degree can be quite different depending on how a student navigates the two opportunities below. https://www.internationallyeducated.com.au/post/engineering-pathways-at-us-universities
