EDPS 563: Social Justice Education from a Sociological Perspective ★ 3 (fi 6) (either term, 3-0-0) This course provides an introduction to the study of social justice education from a sociological perspective. The course focuses on different theoretical perspectives and empirical studies that illuminate a variety of issues pertaining to educational contexts such as schools, universities, community organizations, social movements, and state policy.

Rationale for Proposal:

The proposed editorial change is being made to provide a contemporary calendar description for an existing course which utilizes sociological perspectives on education, while recognizing current scholarly developments in this field of study specifically pertaining to social justice education. The proposed edit to the title reflects the nature of content already being covered in the course, while allowing for correspondence between the title of the course offering and the official name change of the department specialization to Social Justice and International Studies in Education.

Students will gain school and clinical experience in working with individuals referred for psychological assessment and make direct links to intervention in the process. Prerequisite: EDPY 518, EDPY 527. Registration is restricted to School and Clinical Child Psychology students. Requires payment of additional student instructional support fees. Refer to the Fees Payment Guide in the University Regulations and Information for Students section of the Calendar. Students may not receive credit for both EDPY 519 and EDPY 545.

Upon review of the School and Clinical Child Psychology (SCCP) M.Ed. and Ph.D. program requirements, the program faculty have realized that more practicum experience is required in the M.Ed. program. As a result, a stan practicum course (EDPY 520) will be created to reflect the time that students will dedicate to this training experience. the practicum component from EDPY 519 can be removed.

Restricted to students enrolled in the School and Clinical Child Psychology and Counselling Psychology programs.

EDPY 644 Consultation and Evaluation in School & Clinical Child Psychology *3 (fi 6) (either, 3-0-0): A professional psychology course intended to develop the skills of a psychologist as consultant, collaborator, and evaluator. Topics discussed in this course include models/theories of consultation, program/intervention evaluation techniques, and issues/trends related to consultation, collaboration and program evaluation. Restricted to students enrolled in the School and Clinical Child Psychology and Counselling Psychology programs.

Rationale for Proposal:

As described in the associated program change calendar submission, EDPY 614 will be removed from the SCCP program and EDPY 615 will be removed from the SCCP Ph.D. program. Because the SCCP program faculty wanted to the foundational course EDPY 614, they decided to move it to the Ph.D. program. As a result, to retain the same num overall program credits, the SCCP program faculty also decided to absorb the content relevant to professional psyc from EDPY 615 – Program Evaluation into EDPY 644 – Consultation in School and Clinical Child Psychology. There change to the EDPY 644 course name and description are required to reflect this change.
