Disposal of your old appliance

1. When this crossed-out wheeled bin symbol is attached to a product it means the product iscovered by the European Directive 2002/96/EC.

2. All electrical and electronic products should be disposed of separately from the municipal wastestream via designated collection facilities appointed by the government or the local authorities.

3. The correct disposal of your old appliance will help prevent potential negative consequences forthe environment and human health.

4. For more detailed information about disposal of your old appliance, please contact your cityoffice, waste disposal service or the shop where you purchased the product.

LIMITED WARRANTY

LG Electronics warrants to the original purchaser (end user) that the cellular product and itsenclosed accessories will be free from defects in material and workmanship, according to thefollowing terms and conditions:

1. WHAT THIS WARRANTY COVERS:(1) The limited warranty for the handset remains in effect for a period of 12 (twelve) months based

on the date of purchase (except for the battery, where the Warranty Period shall be 6 months).

(2) The limited warranty extends only to the original purchaser (end user) and is not assignable ortransferable to any subsequent purchaser/end user.

(3) During the warranty period LG or officially appointed service agent will repair or replace anydefective product or parts thereof at its discretion.

(4) This limited warranty is applicable to the customer/end user that purchased the product froman official dealer in the United Kingdom.

(5) The purchaser (end user) must retain the original purchase invoice/till slip in order to enforcethis limited warranty.

2. WHAT THIS WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER:(1) Defects or damages resulting from the misuse of this product.

(2) Defects or damages from abnormal use, abnormal conditions, improper storage, exposure tomoisture or dampness, unauthorized modifications, unauthorized repair, neglect, abuse,accident, alteration, improper installation, blown fuses, food or liquid spillage, acts of God andshipping damage.

(3) Breakage or damage to antennas unless caused directly by defects in material orworkmanship.

(4) The cost of delivery or transportation of the product to the dealer or officially appointed servicecenter will be borne by the purchaser (end user).

ServiceThe handset, batteries and charger contain nouser-serviceable parts. LG recommend thatyour LG U880 handset is serviced or repairedby an LG authorized service centre

Efficient useThe handset has an antenna. For optimumperformance with minimum power consumption,please do not cover the antenna area with yourhand. Covering the antenna affects call qualityand may cause the handset to operate at ahigher power level than required. This decreasestalk and standby time.

Radio frequency energyYour handset is a low-power radio transmitterand receiver. When it is turned on, it receivesand transmits radio frequency (RF) energy (radiowaves). The system that handles the call (thenetwork) controls the power level at which thehandset transmits.

Radio wave exposure and SpecificAbsorption Rate (SAR) information

A This handset model U880 has been designedto comply with safety, requirements forexposure to radio waves. This requirement isbased on scientific guidelines that includesafety margins designed to assure the safetyof all persons, regardless of age and health

A The radio wave exposure guidelines employ aunit of measurement known as the SpecificAbsorption Rate, or SAR. Tests for SAR areconducted using a standardized method withthe phone transmitting at its highest certifiedpower level in all used frequency bands

A While there may be differences between theSAR levels of various LG phone models, theyare all designed to meet the relevantguidelines for exposure to radio waves

A The SAR limit recommended by theInternational Commission on Non-IonizingRadiation Protection (ICNIRP), is 2W/kgaveraged over ten (10) gramme of tissue

A The highest SAR value for this model phone

tested by DASY3 for use at the ear is 0.883W/kg (10g)

A The SAR limit recommended by the Instituteof Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE),which is 1.6 W/kg averaged over one (1)gramme of tissue (for example USA, Canada,Australia and Taiwan).

Installing the Battery

To install the battery, insert the bottom of the battery (1) into the opening on the back of the phone,making sure that the references on the videophone (2) coincide. Push the battery (3) until the batterylatch on the back of the videophone (3) clicks.

Removing the Battery

Turn the power off. (If power is left on, there is a chance you could lose the stored telephone numbersand messages.) Press the latches 1 and open the battery 2. Then remove the battery.

Getting Started

The battery is fully discharged and it will takesometime(under 30 minutes) to charge thebattery to minimum operating level. When thered light is on, the handset can not be poweredon. The red light will be turned off if the batteryis charged to minimum operating level.

Warning

You can make video call with chargerconnected.But if the battery capacity is under 10% thebattery can be discharged when you use videocall even though the charger is connected.

Charging the Battery

To use the charger provided with your phone:

1. With the battery in position on the phone,connect the lead from the charger to the sideof the phone. Check that the arrow on thelead connector is facing towards the front ofthe phone.

2. Connect the charger to a standard AC walloutlet. Only use the charger that comesincluded with the package.

Warning

Do not force the connector as this may damagethe phone and/or the charger.

Disconnecting the Charger

When charging is finished, disconnect thecharger from the power outlet and from thephone by pressing on the gray tabs on bothsides of the connector while pulling theconnector out.

Notice

The battery delivered with your phone has to befully charged before using it. Do not remove thebattery or the USIM card while charging.

If your phone is being charged, the display willshow the charging status.

If the battery fails to charge completely:

After turning the phone on and off, pleaseattempt to recharge the battery.

After detaching and reattaching the battery,please attempt to recharge the battery.

Battery Information and Care

1. Never use an unapproved battery since thiscould damage the phone and / or battery andcould cause the battery to explode.

2. The battery does not need to be fullydischarged before recharging.

3. Use only LG approved chargers specific toyour phone model since they are designed tomaximize battery life.

4. Do not disassemble or short-circuit thebattery.

5. Keep the battery’s metal contacts clean.

6. Replace the battery when it no longerprovides acceptable performance. Thebattery can be recharged several hundredtimes before replacement.

7. Recharge the battery after long periods ofnon-use to maximize battery life.

8. Do not expose the battery charger to directsunlight or use it in areas of high humiditysuch as a bathroom.

9. Battery life will decrease if exposed toextremely hot or cold temperatures.

10. Battery life will vary due to usage patternsand environmental conditions.

11. The use of extended backlighting, Browser,and data connectivity kits affect battery lifeand talk/standby time.

Memory Information and Care

1. Please be very careful to turn off the powerbefore removing the battery while the phoneor the external memory is being used.

2. Do not remove memory while listening tomusic or displaying pictures stored on theexternal memory.

3. When formatting on the PC, format on FATtypes. The external memory only supportsFAT (FAT12, FAT 16) format and not FAT32.

4. When setting the theme of the idle screen, donot set the theme stored on the externalmemory directly to the idle screen, but onlyafter copying it to the phone memory.

5. When setting pictures or photos stored onthe external memory as the main theme,please perform the normal turning offprocedure before removing external memory.

Installing the USIM card

Your USIM card contains your phone number,service details and contacts and must beinserted into your handset.

If your USIM card is removed then your handsetbecomes unusable until a valid one is inserted.Always disconnect the charger and otheraccessories from your handset before insertingand removing your USIM card.

Your USIM card may only be used in handsetswhich are enabled for 3 services. Any attempt touse the USIM card in other handsets may resultin serious damage to the handset and mayprevent you from being able to use it, includingthe making of emergency calls.

Your handset’s home screen is divided into three basic displays: the icon indicator bar; a centralwindow that includes the home screen; and the prompt bar. Each of these is described below:

The icon indicator bar

The icon indicator bar shows what operations are takingplace and reminds you of battery and signal strength. Thisappears through all activities. The table beiow gives a briefexplanation of the icons and their function.

The home screen

The central window of your start screen displays an imageof your choice, when in use, this screen will display all ofyour functions and services.

The prompt bar

The prompt bar displays in the soft boxes. These areactivated by pressing the appropriate soft key under eachone.

General Functions

Turning your handset onEnsure that your USIM card is in your handsetand the battery is charged.

Press the key.

Enter the USIM PIN code that was supplied withyour USIM card if PIN code setting is on.

After a few seconds you will be registered onthe network.

Turning your handset offPress and hold the key until power is off.

There may be some delay while the handsetpowers down.

Do not re-power the handset during this time.

Access CodesYou can use the access codes described in thissection to avoid unauthorized use of yourphone. The access codes (except PUK andPUK2 codes) can be changed by using theChange codes feature [Menu 3.4.3].

PIN code (4 to 8 digits)

The PIN (Personal Identification Number) codeprotects your USIM card against unauthorizeduse. The PIN code is usually supplied with theUSIM card. When the PIN Code Request is setto Enable, your phone will request the PIN codeevery time it is switched on. When the PIN CodeRequest is set to Disable, your phone connectsto the network directly without the PIN code.

PIN2 code (4 to 8 digits)

The PIN2 code, supplied with some USIMcards, is required to access functions such asFixed Dial Number. These functions are onlyavailable if supported by your USIM card.

PUK code (4 to 8 digits)

The PUK (PIN Unblocking Key) code is requiredto unlock a blocked PIN code. Contact 3Customer Services for the code.

PUK2 code (4 to 8 digits)

The PUK2 code, is required to unlock a blockedPIN2 code. Contact 3 Customer Services.

Security code (4 to 8 digits)

The security code protects the unauthorized useof your phone. The default security code is setto ‘0000’ and the security code is required todelete all phone entries and to restore thehandset to factory setting.

Barring PasswordThe barring password is required when you usethe call barring function. The password isobtained from the 3 Customer Services whenyou subscribe to this function.

Making and Answering callsEnsure you tell the other party before recordinga voice call.

Making and Answering a video call

You can make/answer a video call to a 3G videophone the other party must have a 3G videophone and be in a video service area.

To make/answer a video call, do the following.

1. Input the phone number using the keypad, orselect the phone number from the callsmade/received lists.

Note

To correct mistakes, press the key briefly todelete the last number, or press and hold the

key to delete all numbers.

2. If you do not want to use the speakerphone,ensure you have the headset plugged in.

The video call may take some time to connect.Please be patient. The connection time will alsodepend on how quickly the other party answersthe call. While the video call is connecting, youwill see your own images; after the other partyhas answered, their image will be displayed onscreen.

3. Adjust the camera position if necessary.

4. Press the end key to finish the call, or closethe handset.

Making a voice/video call

1. Make sure your handset is powered on.

2. Enter the number including the full area code.

a To delete a digit press the key. To delete all digits press and hold the key.

3. Press the key to make a voice call.Press the key to make a video call.

4. Press the key to finish the call, orclose the handset.

Note

To activate the speakerphone during a Voicecall, you have to press and hold the key forat least 2 secs.

Making a voice/video call fromContacts

It is easy to call anyone whose number you havestored in your Contacts.

Press the down navigation key to accesscontact list.

Scroll to your chosen contact and press the key. To make a voice call press

the key.

To make a video call press the key. Pressthe key to finish the call.

Making International Calls

1. Press and hold the key for theinternational prefix. The ‘+’ character can bereplaced with the international access code.

2. Enter the country code, area code, and thephone number.

3. Press the key.

Adjusting the Volume

During a call, if you want to adjust the earpiecevolume, use the side keys of the handset. In idlemode with the flip cover open, you can adjustthe key volume using the side keys.

Answering a Call

When you receive a call, the phone rings andthe flashing phone icon appears on the screen.If the caller can be identified, the caller’s phonenumber (or name if stored in your Contacts) isdisplayed.

1. Open the flip and press the key toanswer an incoming call. If the Press any key menu option has beenset to key, Press any key will answer acall except for the key.

Notice

a To reject an incoming call, press and holddown the side key on the left side twice ofthe handset without opening the flip (Seepage 115). If the flip is open, pressthe key or the right soft key twice.

a If the Open flip menu option ((Menu #.9.4) issimply by opening) is on , you cananswer the call simply by opening the flip.

2. End the call by closing the handset orpressing the key.

Notice

You can answer a call while using the Contactsor other menu features.

Signal Strength

If you are inside a building, being near a windowmay give you better reception. You can see thestrength of your signal by the signal indicatorsee the strength ( ) on your handset’sdisplay screen.

Entering Text

You can enter alphanumeric characters usingthe keypad.For example, storing names in the Contacts,writing a message, creating a personal greetingor scheduling events in the calendar all requireentering text.

Changing the Text Input Mode

1. When you are in a field that allows charactersto be entered, you will notice the text inputmode indicator in the upper right corner ofthe display.

2. Short pressing the key cycles between , , , and .

Using the T9 Mode

The T9 predictive text input mode allows you toenter words easily with a minimum number ofkey presses. As you press each key, thehandset begins to display the characters that itthinks you are typing based on a built-indictionary. As new letters are added, the wordchanges to reflect the most likely candidatefrom the dictionary.

1. When you are in the T9 predictive text inputmode, start entering a word by pressingkeys to . Press one key per letter.

a The word changes as letters are typed -ignore what’s on the screen until the word istyped completely.

a If the word is still incorrect after typingcompletely, press the key once or moreto cycle through the other word options.

a If the desired word is missing from the wordchoices list, add it by using the ABC mode.

2. Enter the whole word before editing ordeleting any keystrokes.

Use the to keys to enter your text.

1. Press the key labeled with the required letter:

a Once for the first letter

a Twice for the second letter

a And so on

2. To insert a space, press the .key once.To delete letters, press the key. Press andhold down the key to clear the display.

Using the 123 (Number) Mode

The 123 Mode enables you to enter numbers ina text message(a telephone number, forexample).

Press the keys corresponding to the requireddigits before manually switching back to theappropriate text entry mode.

Using the Symbol Mode

The symbol mode enables you to enter varioussymbols or special characters.

To enter a symbol, press the key. Use thenavigation and numeric keys to select thedesired symbol and press the key.

Use the keypad to enter letters, numbers,symbols, and other characters with the abcmode. Press the same key repeatedly to cyclethrough available characters.

The profiles menu allows you to personalize andset call tones, message tones, and videophoneevent tones.

The General and Loud profiles are preset by themanufacturer, but may be personalized.

The Silent and Vibration profiles are preset andCANNOT be personalized by the User.

Date & TimeYou can change the format of the time and datedisplay as well as the actual time and dateusing the Time settings menu.

Time

1. Select the Time item from the handsetsettings list and then press the key.

2. Input the current time using the numeric keys.

Daylight saving

This function enables Summer time. ConfiguringDaylight saving to On immediately appliessummer time for the cities which observedaylight saving and currently daylight savingperiod is running. (For example, if the currenttime is 04:53 and daylight saving is running inthe currently selected home city in World timethen time will change to 05:53).

Network

Select network

a Automatic: This function automaticallysearches for the network and registers thehandset to the network.

a Manual: This function enables you to searchthe network list and specify which network toattempt registration with.

Location mode

You may have multiple data connections activeat the same time when you are using yourphone in 3G only, 3G/GSM and GSM networks.

Preferred lists

You can select preferred lists to display it savedin the current USIM card and can edit thecurrent preferred list.

SecurityYou can set a PIN code. When it is activated, awindow asking you to enter the PIN codeappears when you turn on the handset so as toprevent unauthorized use of the handset.

PIN code request

You can activate a PIN (Personal IdentificationNumeric).

1. Select PIN code request from the securitymenu and press the key.

2. Configure this item to On or Off. If it is On, aPIN code will be required whenever thehandset is turned on.

3. Input the current PIN code and press thekey.

4. Entering an incorrect PIN code 3 times in thePIN code input window invalidates the PINcode. In this case, the PUK code must beentered in order to reset the PIN code.

5. The maximum number of attempts at PUKcode input permitted is 10. Entering anincorrect PUK code 10 times will restrict useof the handset. In this case, ask 3 CustomerService to unlock your handset.

Press the Back key in the PIN code inputwindow to return to the previous step.

Handset lock

You can use security code to avoidunauthorized use of your handset.

When you switch on your handset, yourhandset will request security code always if youset phone lock to “Power on”.

You can select the menu from When switchingon, If USIM changed, Immediate, and None.

Change codes

You can change PIN, PIN2 and the securitycode.

1. Select Change codes from the SecuritySettings List and press the key.

3. Input the current PIN or PIN2 code, andthen a new PIN or PIN2 code. Entering anincorrect PIN code 3 times invalidates thePIN code. In this case, you will need toenter the PUK or PUK2 code in order toreset the PIN code.

4. Entering an incorrect PUK code 10 timeswill restrict use of the handset. In thiscase, ask 3 Customer Service to unlockyour phone.

a Security code: This menu allows you tochange the handset password. Themaximum allowed numeric of attempts ofsecurity code input is not limited like PIN andPIN2.

LanguageThis function allows you to set the languageused in the handset.

Normal Streaming

Normal streaming is very similar to livestreaming. To enjoy this service , you mustlaunch the browser, access to entertainmentservices and select the normal streaming menusuch as news, stock, music, weather etc.

VCR Control

If the streaming is not in live, the mobileterminal shows VCR control skin with currentplay time

1. : Play and Pause alternately.

2. Navigation left/right key: You can goforward/backward with this key morerapidly. The following example shows thefunctionality of streaming menu “FF/REW”

Apress FF/REW Key during the streaming, themobile terminal makes video paused.

Apress more FF/REW Key , the mobile terminaldisplay the new time and progress barimmediately. ( user can select new time withFF/REW Key )

Text message

Press the Message shortcut key to displayMessages menu, select New message andthen select Text message.

You can write and edit a single text message upto 160 characters. You can write and edit up to7 concatenated messages.

1. Press the left soft key [Options]/ [Addcontacts] or use the key [Contacts] tospecify the recipient from Contacts.

2. When you input content, a new windowallowing you to input content appears. Byusing the left soft key [Options]/[Insert], youcan input emoticons, templates, and phonenumbers through the Contacts. By usingthe key on the bottom, you can inputvarious symbols.

3. When the message has been sent, it will besaved in the Sent items automatically. If themessage has not been sent, it will stay in theOutbox with fail status.

Multimedia message

Creating a Multimedia message

Select Messages from the top menu orpressing the Message shortcut key displays themessage menu. In the menu, select Newmessage, and then select Multimedia messageand create a Multimedia message.

You can simply send picture with a Multimediamessage attaching the picture from your albumor directly from the multimedia menu.

Multimedia message

1. You can create a Multimedia message.

2. Select Multimedia message from the Newmessage menu and then press the key.

3. You can edit a Multimedia message fieldusing the Down navigation Key.

4. Move the highlight to the To field, and inputthe recipient of the message. You canspecify the recipient by either phone numberor Email address. You can search theContacts by pressing the left soft key[Options] or the key [Contacts].When a recipient has been specified, anotherfield appears where you can add morerecipients.

5. Move the highlight to the subject field, andwrite a title. You can select and input atemplate or emoticon by pressing the left softkey [Options] or use the key [Insert].

6. You can add, delete, or edit each slide bymoving the highlight to the text field.

7. You can save the message in the Drafts byusing the left soft key [Options] while creatinga message.

8. You can preview the message by using theleft soft key [Options] while creating amessage.

9. You can send the message by selecting theright soft key [Send].

10. You can select the following functions usingthe left soft key [Options].

Viewing Multimedia messages in the Previewand Drafts

1. You can preview a created Multimediamessage.

When the multimedia message includes URL,you can try to connect the site. If the slide

includes URL, you can connect the URL by longpress key.On the other hand, when you try to press theup or down navigation key, the slide show ispaused automatically, and the right soft keymenu option changes to "Link" if a URL isincluded in the slide. You can connect to theURL for browsing, downloading, and streaming.

5. Move to a desired message by using the leftand right navigation keys.

6. Press the key to reply to the message.

7. You can select the following functions usingthe left soft key [Options].

Outbox - messages waiting to be sent

Outbox is a temporary storage place formessages waiting to be sent. When you press the

Send, the message moves to the Outbox andfrom there the message is sent. If the messagefails to be sent from the Outbox, another attemptwill be made. After three attempts the message willno longer be sent automatically. In order to sendthe message that has failed three times, you mustpress the Send from the Options menu.

Failed : The maximum number of sendingattempts has been reached. Sending has failed. Ifyou were trying to send a text message, open themessage and check that the Sending options arecorrect.

Sent items1. You can view sent messages. Select a

message and then press the key to viewthe message.

2. You can view the previous or next messageby using the left and right navigation keys.

Allows you to set the length of time for whichyour text messages will be stored at the Textmessage centre while attempts are made todeliver them to the recipient.

Select Multimedia message from the Settingsmenu to configure Multimedia message relatedoptions.

Delivery report

This menu allows you to determine whether torequest a delivery confirmation mail to arecipient, and whether to allow sending deliveryconfirmation mail to a sender.

Multi. msg centre

The details for the Multimedia gateway arepre-loaded onto your handset and should notbe changed. If you change or delete these bymistake contact 3 customer services forsupport.

You can add or edit the profile of multimediamessage except the default profile.

Email

This menu allows you to edit, delete and add anEmail account.

To set up an Email account, do the following.

1. Select Messages/Settings/Email/Emailaccounts after pressing the key in theidle screen.

2. Press the right soft key [Edit].

3. Enter details Username (your phone numberwith Country code without + eg447782227302), Password, Email address,Reply email address, etc.

4. You can authenticate by pressing the rightsoft key [Done].

Once you have set up details of your otheraccounts, you can collect mail from thoseaccounts by retrieving from Mailbox.

To retrieve an email, do the following:

1. Select the mail server you want to retrieve inthe Mailbox.

2. Choose the email by using the navigationkey.

3. Press the right soft key [Retrieve] or [Synch].

provide general information such as weatherreports, traffic news, taxis, pharmacies, andstock prices. Each type of information isassociated with a number, which can beobtained from the service provider. When youreceive an info service message, a popupmessage will indicate a new message receipt orthe info service message will be displayeddirectly.

Contacts

This menu allows you to save and managecontact address information. The Contactsfunctions provide functions to add a newaddress or search saved contact addresses byname, phone number and group information.

Add newThis menu allows you to add a new contactaddress. You can input contact addressinformation including name, phone numbers,email addresses, group information items,memo, homepage address, ringtune, andavatar or image (photograph), etc.

You have to select Handset or USIM cardmemory using the left and right navigation keys.

SearchThis menu allows you to search your contactaddresses. Generally the search operation isperformed by name, number & groups. In thesearch window, the current search function andresults for the search condition are displayed.

On the screen, a saved image or avatar isdisplayed for the selected contact address. You

can change the configuration in the Showimage/avatar(Menu 8.7.2) menu so that noimage or avatar is displayed. You can alsomake a phone call or send a message to theselected phone number.

Speed dialsThis menu allows you to configure speed dialnumbers. You can select a number as a speeddial from 3 to 9. You can configure speed dialnumbers for any of the 7 numbers for a specificcontact address so that a contact address mayhave multiple speed dial numbers.

GroupsThis menu allows you to manage groupinformation. By default, there are 4 groups:family, friends, colleagues and school. You canalso configure ringtune for a group so that thegroup ringtune sounds when a call from aspecific contact address within that grouparrives and there is no ringtune configured forthe contact address.

Service dial numbersThis menu allows you to make a call to one ofthe numbers provided by 3 Customer Serviceby moving the highlight to the desired numberand pressing the key. (E.g. 3 customerservice, mail, 3 customer finance, etc.)

This Handset supports JavaTM so that you candownload games from Today on 3, and playthem on your handset.

Games can be downloaded from the gamepage of the H3G portal site. Users can go tothat page using the key.

My games & appsThis menu is used to locate and rundownloaded applications, e.g. games. SelectDownload to view the list of applications thathave been downloaded to the handset.

Download games & appsThis menu is used to go directly to the gamedownload page, so that users can browse andselect the games to download. This is possiblebecause the Internet browser is launching withthe game portal URL setting. This URL isspecified in the Settings menu - Java PortalURL.

By default, the setting is on the game page ofthe H3G portal (or, it can be left blank if theOperator does not specify the URL). If userswant to change the default setting, the gameportal URL can be modified in the Settingsmenu.

SettingsThis menu is used to configure the Java Internetportal site to connect to in order to Downloadgames & apps.

If this menu is selected, the list of currentlysaved Java Internet portal sites and theconfigured displayed.

Monthly Schedule Management

1. Select the Organiser from the top menu.

2. Select Calendar and press the key.

3. The monthly schedule view is displayed.

4. Initially, the cursor appears on today’s dateaccording to your handset settings.

Searching for a Schedule Item

Select the left soft key [Options] in the Monthlyschedule management screen, select Searchand then press the key to display theSearch schedule items screen.

1. Input the desired subject of the scheduleitem to find.

2. Select the In type to find.

3. Press the key.

4. If there are schedule items that meet thesearch criteria, the schedule items aredisplayed. If there is no schedule itemsatisfying the search criteria, No matchschedule Item message appears.

Moving to a Specific Date

Alarm clockThe alarm function allows you to set up multipleseparate alarms. You can also set the time,repetition interval and alarm sound.

a Select your desired alarm to configure in thealarm list. If there is no alarm, press the rightsoft key [Add] to add a new alarm.

a Set/Cancel alarm: Select desired set timemode using the navigation key.

Answer mode

Allows you to determine when to answer thehandset.

a Open flip: This option allows you to answera call simply by opening the flip.

a Press any key: You can answer an incomingcall by pressing any key, except thekey, soft keys and side keys.

Minute minder

This function sounds an alert notification every1 minute after call connection.

BT answer mode

This menu allows you to determine when toanswer an incoming call in using Bluetoothconnection mode.

a Hands-free: You can answer an incomingcall on the hands-free device that isconnected with your handset. When thephone is receiving a call, a ring tone will beheard on the hands-free.

a Handset: This feature allows you to answeran incoming call on the handset, eventhough the handset is connected withhand-free device.

Please check to see if any problems you haveencountered with the phone are described inthis section before calling 3 Customer Service.

Q How do I view the list of outgoing calls,incoming calls and missed calls?

A Press the key.

Q Why is the connection inconsistent or notaudible in certain areas?

A When frequency environment is unstable in acertain area, connection may be inconsistentand not audible. Relocate to another area andtry again.

Q Why does the display not turn on?

A Remove and insert the battery, then attemptto power-on. If there is no change, fullycharge the battery and try again.

Q Why is there an echo when a connection ismade with certain telephones in a certainarea?

A This is called the ‘Echo Phenomenon’, whereit occurs if connection volume is too high orcaused by special properties (semi electronictelephone exchange) of the equipment on theother end.

Q Why does the handset heat up?

A The phone may get hot when there is a verylong call duration or when games are playedor when using the browser. This has no effectupon the life of the product or performance.

Q Why is there no ringtune, but only a blinkingLCD screen?

A Phone may be set to ‘Vibrate only’ or in‘Silent’ mode. In the Profiles menu, pleaseselect 'Normal’ or ‘Outdoor.

Q Why does the battery life get shorter instandby mode?

A The battery is worn out. As time passes, thebattery life gradually becomes shorter. If thebattery lasts about half the amount of time aswhen first purchased, it’s time to purchase anew battery.

Q Why does the battery run out so quicklyduring normal use?

A It is due to the user environment or a largenumber of calls or weak signal.

Q Why is no number dialed when you recall aContacts entry?

A Check that the number has been storedcorrectly by using the Contacts feature.Re-store them, if necessary.

Q Incoming calls do-not reach me.

A Is your phone switched on ( pressedfor more than three seconds)? Are youaccessing the right cellular network? Or, youmay have set an incoming call barring option.

Q I cannot find the lock, PIN, or PUK code.What is my PIN?

A The default lock code is ‘0000’. If you forgetor lose the lock code, contact your phonedealer. If you forget or lose a PIN or PUKcode, or if you have not received such acode, contact 3 Customer Services.

Q What happens to the handset if it is dropped?

Musical Instrument Digital Interface. A file formatto save digitized musical instrumental data. Theoriginal meaning of MIDI, or Music InstrumentDigital Interface is a protocol to exchange databetween a computer and electric instruments.

MMS (Multimedia Message Service)

A message service for the handset environment,standardized by the WAP Forum and the 3rdGeneration Partnership Program (3GPP). For phone users, MMS issimilar to Short Message Service (SMS)-itprovides automatic, immediatedelivery ofuser-created content from phone to phone. Themessage addressing used is primarily phonenumbers, thus the traffic goes from phone tophone. MMS also provides support for e-mailaddressing, so that messages can also be sentby email. In addition to the text content of SMS,MMS messages can contain still images, voice

MP3

Moving Picture Experts Group Layer-3 Audio. Afile format to provide high-quality audio whosequality is equal to that of CD. MP3 is a digitalaudio standard developed by MPEG, or MovingPicture Experts Group and is widely used fordigital audio files.

MPEG4

Motion Picture Experts Group 4. A digital videostandard developed by MPEG, or MovingPicture Experts Group. MPEG4 compressesvideo data so that a large video file can betransmitted, and saved more easily. MPEG4 issuitable especially for mobile environment.

USIM

Universal Subscriber Identity Module. An IC cardused for UMTS the shape of which is the sameas that of the SIM card of GSM. USIM isprovided by network operator, and carries theauthentication and service grade data for thenetwork operator as well as user-specific data.
