One of the central ideas throughout my work is ‘the subterranean’. From the world above, such sunken spaces are difficult to examine as they are hidden within the earth. In most cultures, the underworld realm is a metaphor for transition. This thought links up with my fascination for other cultures and unknown territory. These places have always held a fascination, which makes the search for them even more exciting. However, in my various sculpture series such elements are just used in a rudimentary form. The wish to disclose what usually remains unknown, will of course never be completely fulfilled. But my work in fact does lead the spectator further into this quest for a world.
