There are many benefits of providing this opportunity for the children such as: Self Confidence Being part of a play shows children that there are people who appreciate them. School productions helps build up self-esteem with each round of applause the performers receive. Public Speaking Public speaking can be a huge problem for someone too shy or someone who lacks confidence. Being part of the production can help a student to move past their shyness and develop public speaking skills. Creativity School shows bring out a child's creativity in a way that no sport can. Commitment Being part of a school production is a great way to teach a child about commitment. When a student is involved in the production of a play, they realise that there are many others who are depending on them. Dedication Being involved in a school show requires a lot of dedication. A student must learn their lines and memorise stage blocking. Dedication is an important skill that is always used in the real world. Children learn this the moment they participate in a school production. We look forward to the production this week and celebrating the talent that is evident in so many of your children. Inter school Cross CountryOn Tuesday 12th of September, the top runners from our school cross country competed in the interschoolathletics competition. The day started out with a lot of excitement from the students who, unlike the parents andteachers, were not concerned by the dark clouds overhead. The course started out fresh for the Year 4 girls andboys but quickly turned into what resembled a bog by the time the Year 5 and 6 runners took the field. Despite themud, the students gave it their best and did really well on the day. As a group the Year 4 boys were awarded 5thplace overall.

Senior/Middle School AthleticsLast Wednesday was the Middle and Senior School Athletics Competition. The day started with the ever excitingMiddle School sprints which were followed by field events including high jump, long jump, shot put and a 200mrace. The Middles gave it their all out on the field and put on quite a performance showcasing their athletic skills. After a short lunch break, the Seniors began their sprint event and really gave it their best. The first three rotationsfor the field events were so competitive that they had to go into extra time with the fourth rotation taking placethe following day. As always the high jump proved the most popular to watch as the 10 and 11 year old boys keptgetting higher and higher. Overall, the day was an exciting exhibition of athleticism and team spirit by the Pakuranga Heights students andexcitement is building for the Junior School Athletics taking place in a few weeks time.
