Typography

In this presentation, I will be researching the kind of typography I want to use in my film opening.

Nicolas Winding RefnNicolas Winding Refn is a Danish film director, screenwriter and producer mostly known for directing the Pusher films (1996, 2004, 2005), Drive (2011) and Only God Forgives (2013).

His films frequently use stylized fonts such as the examples below.

The fonts used in his films are usually presented with a sense of individual style of his own personality as well as work and his characters. His characters are commonly dark, isolated individuals which is shown through the dark red colours and stylized fonts. The use of style is consistent throughout his films.

For my film opening, I want to use certain fonts and colours in the opening credits to show a signature style, which would add to the film.

For example, films directed by Nicolas Winding Refn (Valhalla Rising, Drive, Only God Forgives) is driven by style and colour, which makes the film stand out more.

The font I would use will have a dark red colour in an italic-like writing style. This has taken influence from Refns work. I would use this as it can represent a modern and busy city (London) which will be used in my opening.
