WHY BECOME A MEMBER OF THE POWER OF DANCE ALL STARS?

Our Coaching philosophy: Kids need strong positive adult role models in their lives. We know that every day our actions

not only affect how they dance but how they see themselves and the world. We take this responsibility seriously. We are not

easy coaches- we have high expectations- but we build relationships and trust within our athletes and are then able to bring

out the best they have to offer.

So much more than dance: We do not stress winning but rather measure success in striving for our personal best and

continued improvement. (To become the best we are capable of becoming). Life lessons are taught every day including

accountability, perseverance, sportsmanship, goal setting, and dedication. Dancers build relationships, learn interpersonal

skills, increase their confidence and are encouraged to help each other strive for self-improvement.

What it does for your child’s dancing: The extra attention to detail when preparing for competition often advances the

skill of a dancer much faster than taking classes alone. Each dancer is given personal feedback and encouragement daily by

amazing award winning coaches and choreographers. We don’t just demonstrate the steps, we break them down and focus on

correct technique. Our high attention to detail creates amazing dancers at all levels.

POD All Star Competition Teams - Practice 2 plus Ballet (Seniors 3x/wk). Compete at both local and overnight competitions.

May travel to the Milwaukee, Chicago, and Minneapolis area. *Due to the recent state of our society, if overnights were to

happen they will most likely be planned for later in the year. Learn 3-4 routines

POD All Star Prep Competition Teams- Practice 2x week plus ballet. Compete 3-4 times/year with minimal travel (in

Wisconsin) and possible overnights. Learn 2-3 routines

POD All Star Performance Teams - Practice 1x week plus ballet. Compete 2-3 times/year at studio style competitions.

Competitions are local with minimal (1 being possible overnight.) Learn 2 routines

TEAM SELECTION: Teams are formed by the studio directors based on the following criteria: age, grade,

technique, attitude & performance during previous season, ability to pick up material, and maturity. A minimum of 4 members

is needed to compete as a “team” according to USASF requirements. There may be more than one team at each age level.

All-Star Competition & Prep Team age breakdowns (age is determined by how old dancer is on August 31, 2020)

Tiny – ages 4 - 6

Mini - 9 and under

Youth - 12 and under

Junior - 15 and under

Senior - 18 and under

Open- ages 14 and older

Dancers may be moved up an age division based on readiness but may NOT move down. If a dancer is not ready for

Competition or Prep Team at their current age division, the POD staff will discuss options with the parents including

Performance Team (which does not carry the same age requirements).

AUDITIONS- All dancer who would like to be a part of our All Star Program are required to audition (exception-

there will be no tiny team audition this year but we will take teacher recommendations into account). Dancers do not have to

be recommended by a teacher in order to audition and do not have to be current students- auditions are open to the public.

How the Audition Process will Work:

1. Fill out a POD Official Team Audition Form - Online or paper forms available. Audition fee is $35 – which includes a

Power Of Dance tank top. (fee is $14 for Tiny’s)

2. Everyone registered for auditions will receive a password to access our audition video page.

3. Routines at each level will be posted on our Audition Video Page by Sunday, June 14th @ 3pm. The videos will remain

on the website until Wednesday night 9 pm.

4. Dancers will be assigned a time to audition either in the studio (in small groups) or be recorded via Zoom. Dancers

will demonstrate the routine, a kick combination, and basic skills. The skills will be based on the level each dancer is

auditioning for. Dancers can choose to audition for a level higher than their age requirement but not lower.

See additional document for a list of skills we ask you to demonstrate at each level.

5. All auditions will be video-taped for review by the coaches. Teams will be announced AFTER our recital on June 26-

27. Please be patient as we are unsure how much time it will take to go through all the videos.

Dancers should concentrate on memory, placement, strength of motions, technique, accuracy, and showmanship.

What to wear: Dancers should come dressed in ALL BLACK for auditions. Hair should be pulled up in a pony or bun. Girls-

leggings, fitted dance shorts, tights, fitted tank, leotard, or sports bra. Make-up is not required but a little is encouraged. Boys-

compression style shirt & shorts that stop at the knee. All dancers should have jazz shoes for pom/jazz and clean tennis shoes

for hip hop.

Virtual Auditions: It is a requirement that everyone audition to be a part of the POD All Star program. If you are

absolutely unable to be AT the studio for audition week, we will set up a time to record you by Zoom. A strong internet signal

and space to do the choreography full out is advised. Please indicate your desire for a virtual audition on your audition form.

Contact Elizabeth if you have questions about this process. [email protected]

All Star Team Requirements & Costs As with all sports, there are costs associated with training, equipment, and travel. Here we will estimate out to the

best of our ability what those costs will be. Tuition in dance is the “training”. Costumes/shoes are the bulk of the

“equipment”. We cannot fully estimate the travel expenses as they include things out of our control. Competition fees

are part of it but also included is hotel, transportation, and spectator fees.

*Please note- while summer classes are required- we do excuse in the summer for family vacations.

Tiny Team (ages 4 - 6)

would only learn one routine for competition in the style of jazz. **NOTE- In years past, there has only been enough interest for

ATTENDANCE /COMMITMENT POLICY The commitment to the POD All-Star Program is for the ENTIRE DANCE SEASON. Routines, formations, choreography, staff,

competitions we attend, and the placement of your dancer on a team are all based off a commitment of each member at the

beginning of the season. It is important that each dancer joining a team does so with the intention of keeping that commitment

for the entire season. Tuition for All-Stars and all classes is split into monthly installments for the convenience of families.

Should your child leave a team for any reason during the season, the family will be required to pay the rest of the year's tuition

at the time of departure. Competition and Prep team dancers - your commitment is set at the end of July. Performance Team

Dancers- your commitment is set Aug 31.

Due to the uncertainty of the times- full monthly tuition payments will NOT be required if the studio is once again shut down

due to COVID-19. However, team fees associated with choreography, music, and similar type expenses which we pay at the

beginning of the year will be required as those expenses are not dependent on team practice. Tuition is calculated by the

hour. Should Zoom classes be needed to maintain competition readiness in the case of a shut-down, partial tuition will be

calculated based on time of instruction.

Attendance at all competitions, special performances, and the recital is mandatory. The participation of each individual is

critical to the success of the group. Therefore, please miss practice only when absolutely necessary. Parents- if you are not

committed to getting your child to practice each week, please do not have them audition for team. We have vacation times

planned throughout the year. In addition to these times dancers are allowed up to 4 “vacation” absences but we caution you to

be wise about when you use them. Please avoid extra vacation times from Dec through April if possible. Dancers may

NOT miss the 2 practices directly prior to a performance or competition. Thursday and Friday practices the week prior to a

competition weekend will run as usual unless otherwise stated. Violations of the attendance policy may result in your child

being pulled from a performance/competition without compensation.

SOLOS/DUETS/TRIOS/SMALL GROUPS/SPECIAL TEAMS

Any dancer in the All Star program is eligible to request a solo or ensemble. Please fill out a private lesson request form (link

can be found on our Academy Page & our All Star Team Page). Dancers interested in being a crossover athlete (dancing with

an additional team), small groups, or Kick teams should indicate that on your audition form.

CROSS-OVERS – Are dancers that dance on a “home team” for all styles of dance but are asked to “cross” onto another team

for one or two styles. Crossovers compete with BOTH teams. There is a tuition fee for crossovers.

RESERVES – Are dancers that learn dance choreography but do not have a permanent spot in the formations. Reserves are

utilized if someone cannot perform at competition for any number of reasons. Reserves “hold” the spot for a dancer but do not

take it permanently. There is no cost to be a reserve unless you dance at competition- for which you pay the competition fee.

EXPLANATION OF CLASSES & CAMPS for ALL STARS:

SUMMER TEAM PRACTICE- Practices will focus on team building, technique training and our first competition routines.

Since we do not know for certain how many teams we will have at each level, practice times are tentative until after auditions.

BALLET- Dancers must take ballet in the summer and during the school year- correct ballet technique is the basis of all

dance. If you are unable to attend class at the time your level is taught, please sign up for the next lowest level. Progression

from one level to the next is dependent upon both written and performance tests as well as attendance. All NEW All Stars

STRENGTH/FLEX & LEAPS/TURNS/JUMPS= SF and LTJ. Please register for back to back classes in the summer session

based on current LTJ level. If LTJ level is unknown, register based off of ballet level.

ACRO- Acro= Tumbling and Tricks. All Dancers must take a skills evaluation to register or sign up for Level 1. We are unsure

if we will be able to offer acro this summer other than private or semi-private lessons.

**CHOREOGRAPHY CAMP (mandatory)- Tentatively August 10-13h and Aug 17th-20th – Choreography camp is when our

teams dive into learning their first routines for competition. Tiny Team will have camp 2 days each week for 1 hr/day (total of

4 hrs). Mini All Stars will have camp BOTH WEEKS for 1.5-2 hr/day (total of 12–16 hrs). Youth, Junior, and Senior Teams will

have camp BOTH weeks Mon-Thurs for 2.5 hours per day (total of 20 hrs). **Specialty teams may also have a practice slot.

ADDITIONAL CLASSES- Many students elect to take additional classes including technique classes twice a week in the

summer (Ballet, Acro, LTJ). Please feel free to talk with us for specific recommendations for your child. Summer is a great

time to work on technique but is also a great time to try something new. New All Stars should take classes in their least

familiar styles. Youth Camp and Intensive are very challenging and have become favorites for our All Stars.

UNLIMITED SUMMER CLASSES- For the cost of just a few additional classes- you can take unlimited classes. You can take

any class you want at or below your current skill level- as many times a week as you want. Because class sizes are limited,

please only register for the classes you plan on attending.

Scholarships:

A limited number of scholarships are available to dancers who have financial need. Unfortunately, the fundraisers we usually do to create our scholarship fund were cancelled due to COVID-19, so this year our fund is VERY limited. Scholarships may be used for tuition or part of tuition but will not cover travel expenses or competition fees. Dancers (or Parents of very young ones) who receive scholarships will be asked to “give back” to the studio by volunteering time. They will also be required to participate in individual fundraising during the 2020-2021 season. If you are interested in applying for a scholarship, please contact Theresa. You can also nominate a dancer if you feel they are in need of scholarship help and we will reach out to them. Would you like to contribute to the scholarship fund? We have an incredible community here at the POD and would love to give all kids the opportunity to compete no matter where they are at.
