A Cherokee elder told his grandchildren…


and that was the end of Grandfather’s Tale of Two Wolves


What did you learn?


To be good

To be peaceful

To be happy

To be brave

To be noble

To feed the good

Remember to listen with both ears. The problem is NOT what you think it is. Then, Grandmother looked each child lovingly in the eyes and gave them each a bowl of soup that nourished them to their bones.

An HONEST story


I looked for the good wolf. All I could find was

the bad wolf.


I looked more for the good wolf. All I could find

was the bad wolf.



was the bad wolf.


And she ranted and raged and fussed and fumed I was afraid she might start a fire

Why are you so angry?


And then when my ears got tired I listened with my heart and then I listened with my soul


And the wolf didn’t look so angry any more

How powerful your anger is.

I wonder what you could build with

that much power.


And she wept and she wailed and she screeched and she sobbed and I was afraid she would start a flood

Why are you so sad?


And the wolf didn’t look so sad any more

How tender your sadness is.

How well you must have loved with that

much tenderness.


And she shivered and she shook and she shuddered and she spluttered and I was afraid she would start an earthquake

Why are you so afraid?


And the wolf didn’t look so scared any more

How alive your fear is. I wonder what you could awaken

with that much aliveness.


And she bowed and she bent and she hunched and she hid and I was afraid she would disappear

Why are you so

ashamed?


And the wolf didn’t look so ashamed any more

How humble and wise your mistakes

made you. I admire the wisdom

you have gained.


Powerful Tender Alive Noble

And loving


Like a very good wolf indeed!


What did you learn?


I thought the bad wolf was the problem I learned I needed to listen with both ears. I thought I shouldn’t feed the bad wolf. But I did. I fed her compassion, caring, ideas and inspiration. I fed the good wolf inside the bad wolf.


Just then Grandfather woke from his nap. He noticed the eldest youngster and said:

You look well. Have you been

feeding the good wolf?


Yes, Grandfather, I have.


and sat down to tell the children another tale while Grandmother stirred more soup.


you might find the “wrong wolf.”


make sure you aren’t casting out the best part of yourself.


Practice listening with both ears to what anger, sadness, fear and regret have to teach you.

Find the power, tenderness, aliveness and wisdom at their core.

It’s not about perfection. It’s about wholeness.
