E dgar E. Andrews of Newton, and Donald Short of H unt City M ake the Supreme Sacrifice

P riva te F irs t Class E dgar E. A n­drews was killed in action in Ger­many, M arch 3, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Andrews of Newton, were notified by the W ar D epart­ment, Tuesday. He was serving w ith a Tank battalion attached to Gen­eral George P a tto n ’s T hirtie th army.

Besides his parents, he leaves four brothers and four sisters, P e rry and H arry Andrews of Gary, Indiana, F oster Andrews of Newton, P rivate Ky Andrews in F rance or Germany, Alice, Helen and Charlene Andrews a t home, and Miss Maybelle Andrews of Olney.

He was born A ugust 8, 1920, a t Newton, and had been in the A rm y since October 20, 1942.Donald Short Is Killed

Word was received Thursday m orn­in g from the W ar D epartm ent th a t Donald Short of near H un t City had been killed in action in Germ any on F ebruary 28. He is a son of P erry Short of Chrisman, a form er resident of Jasper county. His m other p re­ceded him in death.

He was born near H unt City Au­gust 23, 1923, and was inducted into the service January 20, 1943, going overseas about a year ago. He had been unable to w rite home recently about w hat he was doing, bu t he is known to have been in the Infan try . ;

Besides his father, he leaves four sisters, Mrs. Opal Ives, Mrs. N orm a Jean Schm idt and Mrs. W anda Rog­ers of Newton and Mrs. Lucille Mor­an in Georgia.Hospitalized in F rance

P rivate Paul G. W heat, son of Mr. and Mrs. Horace W heat of Newton,

who was w ith the Seventh arm y, half way across France, is now in a hos­pital, somewhere in France. He has been hospitalized since November.

Mr. and Mrs. W heat also have an­other son, Roy E. W heat, somewhere in England. Both boys would be glad to hear from the ir friends back home.

Amel Spezia of Carbondale is a prisoner of w ar in Germany, his wife, the former, M arcella M artin, g rand-daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. K. M artin of H unt City vicinity, has learned. He had been m issing in ac­tion wTith the A rm y A ir Force over France?

His wife and two children reside a t Carbondale.
