Lot: 837Rare Chinese 17th/18th CenturyQing Dynasty Hardwood VanityCosmetic Box Of Unusual Form.The interior mirror is nowmissing. When the lid and frontcupboard doors are opened itreveals an alter typeconfiguration of four exposedcarved front drawers with pearshaped brass drop handles,below a stepped platform whichreveals a single long drawercarved again to the front with alotus type flower decoration withbrass drop handles. Each of thefour corners to the drawers havebrass attachments, above thedraws when the cabinet is open itreveals an unusual collonade ofpillars. When the cabinet isclosed it reveals two carved frontpanels of shishi to the left andright, below the cupboard is afine carved freize of typical Mingdesign with formalised shapedbracket feet. To the sides of thecabinet there are two recessedbrass carrying handles oftraditional shape. The recesscarved with a formalised Ruyidesign, each corner on theoutside of the cabinet has threebrass gilded attachments. Mostall of the brass metal hinges lockplates, and attachments havetraces of engraving and traces ofgold gilding. The cabinet is of finerich colour. The box has beenneglected over the years and itremains in an untouched andunrestored condition. All themetal parts we have but in needof conservation and repair(damage to the front lock plates).Crack to the top lid panel in needof restoration. A Chinese labelglued to the base. 9 inches wide,12 inches deep, 7.25 inches high.Estimate: £800.00 - £1,200.00
