Network operators’ groups (NOGs)

• Forums for Internet network operators to discuss matters of mutual interest and share experience

• Opportunities to network with other industry peers

• Usually through the use of mailing lists and annual meetings/conferences

• Hold training/tutorials & workshop during conferences

• Run by “Informal groups”, volunteers from the community

• These forums are important in keep the Internet ‘fit’

Regional and sub regional NOGs

• APRICOT– Asia Pacific Regional Internet Conference on Operational Technologies– Inaugural meeting in 1996– Annual conference, around Feb/Mar– Held in conjunction with APNIC conference– Tracks of tutorials and workshops– www.apricot.net

• SANOG– NOG for the South Asia, started in 2003– Two conferences a year, location rotating around South Asia– Organized and run by different committees

• “an online community of network operators, predominantly in the Internet and Online Services area”

• Annual conference, usually in January.

• First conference in 2005

• Maintains a ‘NOC list’ which provides contacts for emergency

• “a community of network operators who work in ISPs, Content Providers, or other areas of the On-Line Industry in Australia”

• Annual conference, usually held in Sydney around Aug or September

• SGNOG– SGNOG 1 held in July 2011– Two mailing lists

• “a forum of computer professionals working in several ICT based organization in Bangladesh namely in Telco, ISP, Bank, Garments etc.”

• “Open to all ISPs and Internet related organizations in Bhutan and also from around the world.

• A management committee looks after the mailing list and organise the regular meetings
