Step 1

1. Type Name.

2. Type email.

3. Type password.

Step 2

1. Type in @username

Choose a name that is not too long as it will use up characters in

a tweet.

Eg. For a teacher account you could choose a name with initials

@mb2

Or for a class account eg. @MsBerginsClass.

2. Click Sign up.

3. Untick popular accounts. You can click on accounts to follow

but it may be better to choose who to follow later. Click

Continue.

4. Click to not follow an account.

5. Click upload photo, click apply.

6. Click Continue

7. Click on email icon find people

or SKIP THIS STEP (right hand corner).

Twitter for teachers

1. You have 140 Characters to post on Twitter.

2. Retweet RT @username-when you forward on someone else’s tweet. It’s etiquette to put RT

@username before the copied tweet.

3. @ Use this to talk to other users with @username. No space between @ and their name.

Eg. @Tipperaryetb Thanks.

4. DM short for Direct Message-to conduct a private conversation.

5. Trending-The most popular topics on twitter. They are usually news stories.

6. # Hashtag use it to organise your posts and create trends.

Use # when talking about a specific subject/topic, so that other users can search for the hashtag.

7. Lists: You can use lists to group people you follow into categories.

8. Home shows your twitter feed.

Notifications show if someone follows you or if they tweet with your name in the tweet.

Messages if someone sends you a direct (private) message. (You must follow each other to do this)

#Discover shows what is happening now, what is trending.

To search for a twitter account, type @tipperaryetb and click on it.

To Log out click on icon

To tweet Click on

The following tweet box appears..

Type in text. Click

OR If you want a specific recipient to get you tweet, type @username and text.

OR Type #edChatIE if you want your tweet to appear in the Irish #edChatIE feed. (#subject

allows for a discussion on a topic, eg. #gaelige #flippedclassroom #rugby #news)

10. OR to insert a link in the tweet eg. (copy & paste in the link)

11. To shorten a link so it will fit into the tweet, click on the following website:

http://goo.gl or https://bitly.com/

Paste your link, click shorten URL and then CTRL C to copy.

Example:

12. To add a photo to a tweet, click

under video click share, either copy link and paste

into tweet or click on twitter icon.

14 . To Retweet someone else’s tweet:

Click on , click Retweet.

15.How to retweet with your own comments on Twitter (RT):

Copy the content of the Tweet you'd like to share.

Open a new Tweet box and paste the content into the message.

Add the letters RT and the Tweet author's @username to show that it's a retweet and isn't your own content.

Example 1 of a Retweet

Example 2 Retweet: a reply to @EduTweetOz this is indicated by inverted commas

16 #edchatie- (a forum for teachers to discuss topics of their choice.)

Follow @fboss, firstly he will tweet asking what topics people want to discuss.

Then he will tweet as shown below to allow people vote on which topic to discuss.

Between 8.30 -9.30 on Monday nights, search for #edchatie and watch or join in to the chat.

Alternatively:

At any time search #edchatie, teachers share resources and information by adding #edchatie in their

tweets.

17. To follow someone. Click on their twitter link, click Follow.

18. To protect your tweets eg for a class twitter handle

Click settings.

Click Security and

privacy.

Tick Protect my Tweets.

19. To Delete a Tweet

Click on

Click Delete Tweet.

Click Delete.

20. Lists allows you to group tweeters by topic, this makes it easy to check their tweets especially when

you start to follow a lot of people.

-EG Type @bus to find business twitter handles.

-Click on Irish Times business to open their twitter feed.

-Click on the icon of @IrishtimesBiz

-Click Add or remove from lists.

-Tick Education to include in that list

Or

-Click Create a list.

-Type in News.

-Type in a Description.

-Click Public or Private.

-Click save list.

Click check box for News list to include

@IrishTimesBiz .

Click

Click Home

Click Tweets to see lists

Click on Lists

The following 2 lists are created.

News and Education

Click on list to see the feed.

21. Twitter Analytics –(Can use this to monitor twitter activity, eg could be used for feedback with a class

twitter handle to evaluate which tweets students are engaging with.)

Type this https://analytics.twitter.com/about or type twitter analytics in google search engine.

Click Sign in with twitter.

Type twitter handle.

Type password.

Click Log in.

Click Tweets.

Impressions: 100 Number of times users saw the Tweet on Twitter

Engagements: 31 Clicks on a URL

The twitter feed shows no retweets and no favourites but twitter analytics shows there was some

engagement.

22. www.tweetdeck.com This site can be helpful to monitor when students are discussing a #topic

or if following #edchatie
