In an address to the Bishops in Philadelphia on his visit to America, Pope Francis used an example of the difference between the old neighborhood store and the large supermarket. At a time when neighborhood stores flourished, the relationship was based on trust. It was not about clever displays of a lot of choices, but it had what one needed. It was a business based on trust. The large store, the supermarket, was completely different. Long gone was the trust and the close relationship with its owners. Instead, it was based on great selection of merchandise and competition of price. This has brought us to a pervasive sense of consumerism, and a society in which social media allows us to friend a person we don't even know and to post something so that we can get a lot of "likes". Today's consumerism rotates from relationships to friendships to what is important. Even the news outlets will state what is trending right now. The Gospel invites us to a world that is counter cultural. It invites us to a world that is about being a servant. A servant is not a consumer, but is one who serves. Jesus invites us to a radical discipleship that is far from consumerism. To follow Jesus, one must take up the cross. To follow Jesus one must be a servant of all. To be a disciple, one must lay down one's life for another. Sadly, our society struggles with radical discipleship. Radical discipleship speaks of consumerism that leads us to a food pantry, a prison or a neighbor in need. Radical discipleship speaks of simplicity that is more powerful than what is currently trending. Radical discipleship speaks of the wisdom that when I am lost, I am found; that anyone who loses their life will save it. All of the powerful words of Jesus lead us in a different direction. May the words of Jesus dwell in our hearts. Rev. John J. Ouper As you may know by now, we do have handicapped doors up and working for those who need them. I would like to thank the Administration Commission and all of the hard work of Tim Cindel and Jan Miriani that helped to hasten the completion of this project. Additionally, our new website just went public. I would like to thank the vision of the Parish Council, the time and effort it has taken to get this far. The Committee of Greg Olson, Rick Llanes, Andrew Klug and Dick Poirier along with the entire staff, and the Council, has worked to look at the format, the message and the dynamic approach it offers. Andy Clements of WebLinx and his staff have donated many hours of their services to the parish on this project. It is the fruit of teamwork that has gotten it to the point of looking so well and doing as many things as it can. New parking lot lights are our next priority. Hopefully before Christmas, these will be working. The new lights will be more energy efficient and in the long run will save us money. I am grateful to Bill Keeline and Jan for her help on this project as well. All roads lead to the Discipleship Weekend. Please join us. Everyone is welcome. Fr. John

Recently, people have come up to the priests, the deacons, ushers and cantors and have asked to have the name of a person put on our prayer list. Often the person making this request is a family member. Sometimes it is a friend or acquaintance of the one needing prayer. Due to privacy laws now in place, we must be very careful who is put on the list, especially when a name is publicly announced. Even though the intention we have concerning the making a request for prayers for someone is a good one, we must consider that the person may wish his or her privacy to be respected. The person or immediate family member should communicate to us the request to be put on the sick list or an immediate family member for the deceased list. Please keep this in mind in making the request for adding names to our prayer lists. The list is typed on Friday morning. All are asked that if you have a person in your immediate family (spouse, parent, next of kin) to be put on our prayer list for the weekend that you call the parish office first. We are aware that sometimes illness occurs suddenly and may occur over the weekend. Please do not put the name on the list yourself or ask cantors or ushers. Rather, please ask Father John, Deacon David, Deacon Duane, or Sr. Margaret Anne to do this. Saint Anne Parish continues to be committed to pray for those who are sick and suffering, even if we are unable to list everyone by name.

And all who are experiencing illness and are not listed by name.

“ASK AND YOU WILL RECEIVE” “Knock and the door will be opened.”

If you are experiencing serious illness or problems, the members of Saint Anne Prayer Tree are committed to help you with the “asking and the knocking.” To request special prayers or to join the group as a member, call Jackie Johnson, 630-554-1591.

Jesus proclaims in today’s Gospel from St. Mark, whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant. The prophet Isaiah and the Letter to the Hebrews also describe examples of Christ’s humility that He models for us to follow. In other words, glory in God’s Kingdom is not accomplished through high status or rank, but through being a humble servant to others — especially to the poor among us. As Christian stewards, we acknowledge that service to the Church and community is a key principle of stewardship. Do we strive to offer our time, talent, and treasure in gratitude to God for His abundant blessings?

THE TIME TO PUT YOUR FAITH TO WORK IS NOW!!

Have you viewed the videos exposing the horrors occurring at Planned Parenthood locations? (If not, informed Christians MUST see them.) Isn’t it time to put your faith into action? Consider this your invitation…. 40 Days for Life – September 23 – November 1, 2015 – is an international focused pro-life campaign with a vision to access God’s power through prayer, fasting, and peaceful vigil to end abortion. Our goal is to have a peaceful prayer vigil outside Planned Parenthood in Aurora for 12 hours a day (7:00 AM-7:00 PM) for 40 days straight. St. Anne is committed to covering Thursday, October 22. These efforts are reaping rewards – in the most recent campaign, 632 lives were saved and 11 abortion workers quit. For more information or to sign up, go to 40daysforlife.com/aurora or call Ann Canning, 630-898-0555.

Continue to enrich your Church by calling forth sons and daughters who, having found the pearl of great price, treasure the Kingdom of Heaven above all things. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

R.C.I.A. - Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (R.C.I.A.) is a spiritual journey in faith to discover what it means to follow Jesus as a Catholic Christian and the joy and freedom that can result from journeying with Christ. Every year adults are welcomed into the Catholic Community through R.C.I.A.. It is a learning and loving process in which conversion of the heart brings you to Jesus Christ who is our Lord and Savior. Come to me, all you who are weary and find life burdensome, and I will refresh you. Take My yoke upon your shoulders and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble of heart. Your souls will find rest, for My yoke is easy and My burden light. Matthew 11:28-30

If you or anyone you know have any questions and are high school age or older,

please contact Deacon David Brockman at 630-554-3331.

ST. ANNE USHER MINISTRY NEEDS NEW SMILING FACES! The St. Anne Usher Ministry has openings for FIVE (5) USHERS at Saturday’s 5:00 PM and for ONE (1) USHER at Sunday’s 7:30 AM Mass times.

If you are at least 18 years of age, like interacting with people and have a great smile you can be an Usher. Additionally, the Usher Ministry welcomes all couples that want to usher together. Ushering is an intricate and important part of each liturgy celebrated at St Anne Parish. Ushers are usually the first people seen by parishioners before entering church. Please consider joining the St. Anne Ushers as they provide us all with assistance when we need to find a seat during crowded Mass celebrations, "passing the basket" for our weekly Offering, and distribute the “weekly Bulletins” at the end of Weekend Liturgies. Pray on your Usher calling and then call/text Glen Grimm at 630-777-9406 or by email at [email protected] when you are ready to join the St. Anne’s Usher Ministry.

SACRAMENT OF THE SICK If there is anyone at home who cannot get to Mass and the Sacraments because of illness or age, please call the parish office at anytime to request the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) Those interested in becoming Catholic or in learning more about the Catholic faith meet weekly. Call the parish office or e-mail [email protected] for more information. STEWARDSHIP PARISH We are a stewardship parish. This means that every parishioner with an income is asked to use a Sunday envelope, since we expect to meet our needs from the one collection at the Presentation of the Gifts. NEW PARISHIONERS All new families are warmly welcomed to Saint Anne Parish and we ask that you register your family by calling the parish office during office hours.

MISSION STATEMENT God has called us to be Christian witnesses by the precious gift of our Catholic faith through Baptism. Just as Saint Anne had a role in God’s plan so do each of us. We are called to faithfully teach and live the message of Jesus. We listen to God’s word, grow in our understanding of it and respond to it through outreach and service in our own parish as well as the wider community. We exercise our responsibility to develop and see the gifts God has given us for the common good and to insure that our Eucharistic celebrations are truly joyful and meaningful. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Baptisms are held the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month at 12:30 PM. Expectant parents are to call the Parish Office, six months before the birth of their child for preparation information. Please do not choose Godparents until you receive the established Church guidelines for Godparents. SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE Couples seeking the Sacrament of Marriage should call the parish office at least six months before the date of marriage. A wedding date may not be secured until meeting with the parish Deacon or Priest. At that time, the couple will be secured a date and begin the process of preparation for the Sacrament of Marriage.
