FLOOD RELIEF IN KERALA The devastating floods in Kerala have killed more than 350 people and many homes and crops have been destroyed due to rainfall and landslides. The monsoon rains have since begun to ease and rescue teams have been deployed, but thousands of people remain stranded. The Carmelite Order also rose to the challenge in battling this devastating flood and have taken up the task of rehabilitation. They opened a camp at three of our institutes such as the Guardian Angel’s High School, the Carmelite Retreat Centre and the Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Manjummel, Kochin, where nearly 4000 people were staying. Currently the Carmelite Social Service department is focusing on immediate rehabilitation of the people after the flood and at a second phase for further long standing and limited rehabilitation projects. They are working on the task of raising 20000 flood relief kits (each kit will cost 300 Indian rupees, an equivalent of $6) to distribute among the victims of natural calamity irrespective of religion or caste on or before 1st September 2018. Per the communication from the Carmelite Provincial, “This is a unique chance for every member of our province to join the endeavour through cash or kind. You may inspire your own friends or well-wishers to sponsor as many as they can. Please arrange to reach it provincial house before the 30th of August.” Dear Brothers and Sisters, first of all, I urge you to pray for the victims and any support will be highly appreciated. Fr Albin and Fr Anson’s families have been affected but the good news is that they are all safe. Thank you for your continued support to our parish and all its good works. Let God be praised in all the world. Blessings, Fr. Theo

Dear Parishioner

The first step in the process of our Diocesan Synod and the National Plenary Council is to hear from Catholics on where they believe there needs to be change or modification for the Church to be more as Jesus intends. The Church was instituted by him: it is his Church. Based upon what you have heard from Catholic family members or friends who are disconnected or even alienated from the Catholic Church, what do you think might be their answers to the question:

What do you think Jesus is asking of us in Australia at this time?

You may respond to this question by completing the attached form, or by accessing the

electronic form on our Diocesan website at:

http://bunburycatholic.org.au/synod-consultation/

Completed paper forms can be scanned and e-mailed to:

[email protected] or mailed to: Rebecca Ward

PO Box 2005, BUNBURY WA 6231.

Please reply by Friday, 14 September 2018.

God bless,

Volunteers Needed

Vinnies needs people to help with our 2018 Street Appeal - Friday September 7. Mandurah is so large now that our conference members cannot cover our usual collection points all day so we need parishioners to help us. Otherwise we will have to reduce our coverage. We raised more than $3000 in last year's appeal, and we need every cent of that to help those in need in Mandurah.

Can you spare one or two hours any time from 8.30-9am to 5 pm FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 7. It is really wonderful if two friends offer us a couple of hours to work together. We will supply the collection tins and all the support needed - We just require yourselves, a big smile and a willingness to chat to strangers for a couple of hours. Most places will have seating. Our Collection points are Mandurah Forum Shopping Centre Halls Head Shopping Centre Bunnings Greenfields Bunnings Halls Head Post Office downtown Smart St Mall

Please ring Jill Mather on 0400 212 039 if you can

help - or email [email protected]

MercyCare is a leading not-for-profit Catholic provider of aged care, family, health, disability

and community services. We understand how important it is for people to remain independent in their own home, and with the many changes that have occurred in aged care over the past few years, we know that this can be a very confusing, overwhelming time for everyone. Our Community and Home Support services are here to simplify the process. We have a range of flexible services, and can even help individuals over the age of 65yrs to access Government funded assistance. Support can include everything from social activities, keeping up with household tasks, and even in-home nursing and medication management. Support is also available to carers when the time comes to take a break. Please contact Samantha from MercyCare to discuss the options that are available to help you and your loved ones.
