Mission Statement We, the members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, as a caring Christian community, help one another to live, to nurture, and to celebrate God’s gifts. We encourage others on their faith journeys to join us in giving witness to our Catholic faith and to grow as disciples. We celebrate the sacraments and receive the gift of grace to strengthen our faith and to enrich our relation-ships with Christ and his Church. We gather together to pray, to worship, to give thanks, to petition, to seek comfort, to share joys and sor-rows, and to experience God’s love, joy, and peace.

Congratulations to all fathers on this Father’s Day week-end. Your ministry
as a father is very impor-tant. Boys and girls need a strong and posi-tive experience of paternal love and care. What you exhibit as a parent becomes a model for the parenting your own children will provide for your grandchildren. Let your parenting be the best of parenting. Blessings to all fathers on this special day.
Annual Diocesan Appeal If you have not completed your pledge to the annual Dioce-san Appeal it would be helpful to do that soon.
Thank You . . .
Thanks to the people who came last Saturday morning to begin moving Father Reynolds to his retirement residence. That help was greatly appreciated.

Step-Two in the Opening of the Church Bishop Zinkula has announced that we may proceed to step-two in the diocesan protocol for the re-opening of churches. Effective Monday, June 22, daily Mass will be scheduled at the customary times. Mass will be celebrated in the church in order to ease the social distancing requirement of six feet between family groups. Those who attend Mass should sanitize their hands in the gathering space, and again before and af-ter Communion, using a personal sanitizer which is to be brought with yu from your home when you come to Mass. On Tuesday there will be Mass only; no exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. We are encouraged to limit the amount of time people are gathered in the church. The celebration of Mass will be brief. For daily Mass please occupy the seats off of the center aisle, leaving the far sections of pews to the far east and far west empty. This will aid in sanitation. Instructions for the reception of Holy Communion will be given at the Mass. Weekend Masses will resume on the last weekend of June, June 27/28, at the customary times. There are new protocols for the weekend Masses. These are put in place for your health and for the health and well-being of others in the church. Your patience and cooperation will be greatly appreciated.
You will be asked to pre-register for the Mass you wish to attend. This will be done via the SurveyMonkey application. Go to https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/G5DDHWY to participate. If you do not have internet access, call the parish office at 792-2050 during business hours and leave a message if no one is available to answer the phone. Please indicate if you wish to attend Mass on Saturday evening or on Sunday morning. Also tell us the names of the people in your group.
Until such time that a pattern is established regarding how many people wish to attend Mass each weekend, please do not register to attend Mass more than twice a month.
When you arrive at church, you will be asked to provide your name for the hospitality minister to record. We need to keep track of who attends each Mass, in case someone at Mass later is diag-nosed with COVID-19, thus we would know who might have been near that person at a previ-ous Mass.
A face mask or shield must be worn by those over two years of age.
There will be no bulletins or missalettes.
You will be seated by a hospitality minister, filling one section of the church before occupying another area. This will be from the front of the church to the back. Please cooperate and take the seat to which you are directed by the hospitality minister.
Only every third pew will be used.
Social distancing between family groups in the pews will be observed.
There will be no entrance procession of the priest.
There will be no altar servers.
One lector will do both readings.
There will be no singing; only instrumental music is allowed.
No collection basket will be passed. Receptacles in which you may drop your collection envelope or cash will be placed on a table just inside the carpeted area north of the gathering space.
There will be no procession of the gifts. The bread and wine for the Eucharist will be in the sanctuary prior to the start of Mass.
Only the clergy will receive the Precious Blood of the Lord.
Holy Communion will be distributed to the faithful only under the species of the Sacred Body, and only in the hand. You should bring your own small bottle of sanitizer and sanitize your

Thank you for your generosity toward last week’s collec-tion for the Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC). hands before and after receiving Holy Communion. Additional instructions for the reception of Holy Communion will be given just before Communion is distributed.
The clergy or Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion will come to you, in the empty row ahead of you, to distribute Holy Communion in your hand.
For exiting the church the faithful will be dismissed by a hospitality minister.
The Mass is to take no more than 30 minutes. The homily must be brief.
A thorough sanitization of the church follows each Mass, which may begin one hour after the end of the previous Mass.
The faithful continue to be dispensed from the obligation to attend Mass each holyday and Sunday.
First Communion and Confirmation may be celebrated at the weekend Masses, but only for 2-3 families at a Mass.
Be aware that these policies and practices are very fluid, depending on changes from the Diocese of Daven-port and from the next pastor, Fr. Tony Herold, whose term begins July 1.
Year-End Giving Next weekend is the last weekend of the fiscal year. The parish could really use a good collection next weekend. As you might imagine, without parishioners com-ing to church for Mass our collections are down. We need to end the fiscal year in a better situation than we have now.

Vision 20/20 The Gospel “Sometimes we are tempted to be that kind of Christian who keeps the Lord’s wounds at arm’s length. Yet Jesus wants us to touch human misery, to touch the suffering flesh of others. He hopes that we will stop looking for those personal or communal niches which shelter us from the maelstrom of human misfortune and instead enter into the reality of other people’s ives and know the power of tenderness. Whenever we do so, our lives be-come wonderfully complicated and we experience in-tensely what it is to be a people, to be part of a people.” — Pope Francis, The Joy of the Gospel: Evangelii Gaudium
Why does the Church oppose stem-
cell research, especially when it has
the potential to cure illnesses like
Parkinson’s disease?
Stem cells are un-specialized cells with the ability to divide and pro-duce a variety of more specialized cells. Scien-tists hope that one day they can be coaxed into specific kinds of cells that can cure disease or repair diseased organs. In a 2008 statement, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops said there are two kinds of stem cells. Adult stem cells come from umbilical-cord blood, adult tis-sue, and placenta that can be obtained with no harm to the donor or ethical problems. Embryonic stem cells, on the other hand, are obtained by destroying embryonic human beings in the first days of development. Since harvesting these cells involves the deliberate kill-ing of humans, obtaining or using this kind of cell is immoral. This is why the Church has op-posed extending federally funded stem-cell re-search beyond currently existing cell lines. Although stem-cell research may hold therapeutic potential, it’s never permissible to sacrifice a person. “The same ethic that justifies taking some lives to help the patient with Parkin-son’s or Alzheimer’s disease today can be used to sacrifice that very patient tomorrow, if his or her survival is viewed as disadvantageous to other human beings considered more deserving or productive,” the bishops said. Catholics should support more research on adult stem cells, which show great promise, and resist efforts to expand research using em-bryonic cells.

Monthly Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet for the Ladies of the Parish
We invite all ladies of the parish to our once-a-month Saturday morning Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we will not be meeting in person until further notice. We will be meeting virtually via Zoom. If I (Teresa Gregory) did not contact you last month and you would like to join us for this meeting, please text or call me at 970-520-3207, and I will send you a link to join the meeting when I set it up. If you would prefer to re-ceive the link by email, please con-t a c t m e a t t e r e s a k r o g -
[email protected]. Also, if you would like me to email you with the Rosary and Chaplet reflections before we meet so you can have them on hand, please send me your email address. We welcome you all to join us in this time of spiritual combat against the powers of darkness. It is a marvelous opportunity to grow closer to God and to build up His kingdom on earth. Our next meeting is Sat-urday, July 11th at 7:00 A.M.
From Your Library One of the interesting things Catholics like to do is go on a pilgrimage. Some of our parishioners have made one to the lovely churches in eastern Iowa and some have traveled to Rome, Poland and Medigorje and the famous shrine Compastella in Spain, But did you know one of the most ancient and famous pilgrimages sites is in England and has been immortalized in a poem, The Canterbury Tales? For over thirteen centuries pilgrims have traveled to the Canterbury Cathedral to honor the memory, the martyr, St. Thomas Becket. Two British priests filmed their pilgrimage to this site. They begin in London and proceeds for five days along the south-east part of England. We follow their adventures in the DVD,To Be A Pilgrim: The Canterbury Way,
as they visit the same famous churches, old lodges and ancient ruins previous pilgrims had visited. Besides enjoying the beautiful scenery and magnificat cathedrals and churches, we learn about the early and deep roots of Catholicism in England.

Jer 20:10–13; Rom 5:12–15; Mt 10:26–33
Fear Not Easier said than done. There is so much to be afraid of today: war; the loss of life and the devastation caused by it; unemployment and poverty; illness and the pain and diminish-ment that often accompany it; the threat of ecological collapse; to say nothing of personal anxiety and trauma. The readings for this Sunday all speak of the hardships that loom over every life. But these hardships are not the last word. Jeremiah ends his announcement of gloom on a positive note: “Praise the Lord, / For he has rescued the life of the poor / from the power of the evildoers!” (Jeremiah 20:13). The psalm of la-ment picks up the same message: “the Lord hears the poor” (Psalm 69:34). Saint Paul insists that sin and death don’t win: “… How much more did the grace of God...overflow for the many” (Romans 5:15). Caught in the throes of misfortune,
people cry out—but God responds. It is in the Gospel that the reassurance of God’s care unfolds. The struggles described there are real, but they will not last. The imagery employed to characterize God’s care is picturesque and extraordinarily ten-der. If God is attentive to the lowly sparrows, how much more will God be attentive to us? Even more person-ally, God knows us so well that the very hairs on our head are counted. The admonition here is clear: Never fear! If catastrophes threaten, don’t be afraid! Even if they engulf you or carry you away, don’t be afraid. It is only temporary. God is always there, attentive to our needs, so fear not!
