SHOW YOUR ORIGINAL ART AT “COVER OF A COMIC”Do you love comic books, graphic novels, superheroes, or “Calvin & Hobbes”? Perhaps you have memories of sneaking a flashlight under the covers to read about the latest adventures of Wonder Woman; perhaps some part of “The Incredibles” made you laugh out loud. The Stairwell Gallery and Legendary Comics and Tea Room want you to put your thoughts, feelings, and ideas on paper, or wood, or sheet metal -- any size, any medium, anything at all, for the first annual “Cover of a Comic” exhibition!Building on the success of three years of “Cover of a Cover”, which the Gallery sponsored with Endless Records, this year’s show uses comics as the inspiration -- and you have complete license to let your imagination run; let’s see what you can do! Bring your completed works to the Antler, 24 East Main Street in Bloomsburg, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, the 4th of October; the show opens on Monday the 6th and runs through the 22nd of November, with an opening reception on Friday, the 10th of October, 6-8 p.m.Thanks to Jason Godeke for the three different call-for-entries flyer designs; look for them around town! REGIONAL COLLEGE STUDENT PRINTMAKING SHOW NOW ON DISPLAY AT THE ANTLER This show displays prints made by Lycoming College and Bloomsburg University students. The works are paired together (one from each school) to explore similarities and relationships that unexpectedly happen as students work in the various printmaking processes. To my knowledge, all of these students are unaware of each other’s work, and yet it becomes eerily clear that ideas, compositions, colors, patterns, and other aspects of the images are remarkably similar. Separated at their creation by 50 miles, and in most cases years, the collected pairs of prints nonetheless create an atmosphere of the Zeitgeist (the “spirit of the age” or “spirit of the time”). The merit of each print is heightened when we can compare and contrast it with a similar, yet not directly influenced, print. Enjoy.– Chad Andrews, Bloomsburg University printmaking instructor Thank you to Jeremiah Johnson, who teaches printmaking at Lycoming College, for taking the time to choose examples from its print archive. Without his effort, this show would not exist. For open hours, visit our Web calendar.

BLOOMSBURG TO BE FOCUS OF WVIA’S “OUR TOWN” SERIES: VOLUNTEER VIDEOGRAPHERS/STORYTELLERS NEEDEDWVIA’s “Our Town” series comes to Bloomsburg: “Our Town Bloomsburg” will be a “day-in-the-life” one-hour video scrapbook focusing on the people, places and happenings of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, as seen through the eyes of its residents. All Bloomsburg residents are encouraged to attend the first “Our Town Bloomsburg” community/volunteer meeting, Wednesday, September 10th, at 6:30 p.m. at the Caldwell Consistory, 150 Market Street in Bloomsburg. Residents will discuss which landmarks, events, and local stories the program should feature. WVIA will answer questions about the project during the meeting and ask volunteers to brainstorm a list of subjects and events to videotape. Then on Wednesday, September 17th, at 6:30 p.m., WVIA will hold a second community/volunteer meeting at the Consistory. During this meeting volunteers will participate in a whiteboard session to determine the stories to be told in the program and which stories each volunteer will videotape to create “Our Town Bloomsburg.” WVIA hopes to recruit 20 to 25 area residents with personal camcorders. Anyone interested in being a videographer and/or storyteller for the program should contact WVIA “Our Town” producer, Lisa Mazzarella, at 570-602-1164 or by e-mailing

[email protected].“Our Town Bloomsburg” will debut on December 4, 2014 on WVIA-TV.As northeastern Pennsylvania’s and the Central Susquehanna Valley’s public television station, serving a very large geographic area, WVIA initiated the “Our Town” project in an effort to involve each of the region’s communities and the residents with WVIA. The “Our Town” series is intended to treat viewers to the many personalities, perspectives, and possibilities that local towns have to offer.

His ‘all’ is the Blues. The routes, and roots, of his blues are as diverse as the music form itself. It can be soulful, moaning out a people’s cry, or playful and bouncy as a hay-ride. He’s a musician, composer, actor, director, and writer. But most importantly, Guy Davis is a bluesman. The blues permeates every corner of Davis’ creativity. Throughout

his career, he has dedicated himself to reviving the traditions of acoustic blues and bringing them to as many ears as possible

There is no minimum size: we’ve given tours to one person, and many to school groups. Sustainable and humane farming is all over the news these days. Here is your chance to take a

close-up look at how it is entirely possible to raise happy and healthy animals in a natural setting without the use of chemical inputs. Things are always changing on a farm, but come meet the usual cast of characters including 100-300 sheep and lambs. In spring, the lambs are newborn and near the barn. In summer, they are on pasture and you can see the Border collie working. Our pastured pigs don’t have to be raised in concrete pens in smelly buildings. See how playful and content our Tamworth pigs are in the fields and woods. Chickens: no confinement buildings with big fans here. Our meat birds start as chicks in a warm brooder, then move outside to green grass. Honeybees: our hives are managed with natural chemical-free methods. Taste their delicious honey! Horses and cattle: our horses are used for riding and driving, and always enjoy a visit and a friendly scratch. Sharing the pasture are the beef cows. www.owensfarm.com SunburyNow-September 28: Labor Day Blowout Green Tag Sale at West Milton School House Antiques and Collectibles Stop in for our Labor Day Blowout Green Tag Sale. found everywhere but Antarctica; they taste with their feet; and some, like the Monarch, can migrate up to 2,000 miles? Visit us April 19 through October 31, 2014 to experience these delicate beauties in flight. Want a closer look at these beautiful insects? We now offer the chance to feed them!
