Penney at the Susquehanna Mall, will present productions and concerts which will be rat-ed from those fit for the en-tire family to those which parents may not want to bring younger children to. The next play being per-formed at the live theater is the musical “1776” which the theater own-ers are sure that the entire family will enjoy. As the

name might imply, the play centers around the meet-ing of the 2nd Continental Congress as they decide whether or not to declare the colonies’ independent from Great Britain. “1776” premieres of Friday, June 13th at 7:00 PM and will run for three weekends with performances on Fri-days, Saturdays and Sun-day matinees. The play will end on Sunday, June 29th, the Sunday before the 4th of July weekend. On July 12th, for one night only at 7:00 PM, the theater will host a concert by a group called “Bee-Geez USA”, a tribute band to the Brothers Gibb. The concert is nearly sold out and less than 30 tickets re-main. This is the first time that the entire capacity of the seating is being used in the Courtyard Theater.A week later, well-known local celebrity Frank Fe-

dele will present a con-cert named “Flash from the Past”, a two-part show featuring “Orbisonia” and the sounds of Roy Orbison and the “Boomer Legends Show” which features rock tunes of the ‘60s and 70’s performed by Frank’s won-derful band. This show will be held on two nights only, Friday and Saturday, July 18th and 19th at 7:00 PM. During that week, the children’s camp for kids 7-17-years old called “The Young Person’s Dramatic Academy will be held, for two weeks, Monday thru Friday, the 14th thru 18th and the 21st thru 25th, from 10AM to 2 PM each day. The kids can bring their own lunch, or Gar-field’s Restaurant will of-fer three different lunches delivered to the theater for only $1.00 a day. The cost of the camp is $150, but only 20 kids can attend. A few opening still remain. Then, on August 1st, the theater offers to more ma-ture audiences, the Bur-lesque extravaganza, “Ma-dame Burlesque”, present-ed by the famous Boston Babydolls. This one night event, scheduled for 8:00 PM, is a tribute to the la-dies of the famous art form of the 1920s thru 1940s when burlesque offered sexy ladies and hilarious comedy. Dozens of famous comedians got their start in burlesque houses and the glamorous girls be-came as famous as movie stars. Names like: Blaze Starr, Zorita, Sally Rand and Gypsy Rose Lee were well known to the general public. The Boston Baby-dolls show is touring the US and the Courtyard The-ater was happy to be able to give audiences from the Susquehanna Valley a chance to see them LIVE. Finally, after two more plays: “Over the River and Through the Woods” and “Radio Razzle Daz-zle” in August and Sep-tember, the Courtyard Theater will present the live version of the cult fa-vorite musical, “The Rocky

Horror Show” which, al-though rated “PG”, is well known to have audience participation which causes the warning to potential audience members who have never seen either the play or movie to expect shocking language from the viewers. The theater will also be selling bags of “goodies” so essential to audience participa-tion in the play. If you’ve never seen “Rocky” you are well advised to ask a friend who has seen it what it is about. However, for those who have expe-rienced the movie or play before, be prepared for the absolute fun of the event. “The Rocky Horror show will be presented for 4 performances on Friday and Saturday nights only, October 3rd and 10th and 4th and 11th at 7:00 PM. All tickets to all the events mentioned above are $15 and may be purchased ei-ther on the website of the

Despite steep trans-portation costs, domestic leisure travel is expected to rise 1.7 percent this year, to more than 1.6 bil-lion trips, according to U.S. Travel Association projec-tions.

With the average air-fare close to the $400 mark -- excluding the cost of checked luggage -- know-ing how to find savings could make the difference in affording your next va-cation. “Unconventional travel planning can help you secure better deals on transportation and accom-modations costs,” says Uri Argov, CEO of Tourico Hol-idays, a worldwide leader in travel services.

Savvy summer travel-ers should keep in mind the following tips from Argov when making their plans:

• Long weekends: If you’re planning a long weekend, save money by taking Monday off instead of Friday. Sunday is typi-cally the least expensive night to stay in a hotel.

• Swim upstream: Planning off-season adventures can make for cheaper travel year-round. For example, the Caribbean and Mexico still have great weather in the late spring, but prices drop as U.S. tourists have

stopped thinking about escaping colder temperatures. Beyond the potential savings, you can also beat the crowds with this approach.

• Smart credit: Maximize savings by using a credit card that provides cash back or miles on travel. The new, chip-enabled Sam’s Club MasterCard program

offers five percent cash back on gas and three percent cash back on travel and din-ing purchases.

• Midweek flights: Choose to travel mid-week since Tues-days and Thursdays are less expensive days to fly.

• Streamline your online search for deals: Book your vacation through a trusted travel aggregator that offers deals through a single hub. Booking transportation, ho-tels and attractions together saves time and provides deeper savings.

Members-only travel sites like Sam’s Club Travel offer serious savings, extremely broad selection and easy ac-cess with no external sites or pop-up windows. This site of-fers up to 50 percent off most hotels and up to 15 percent off other services, such as rental cars and theme parks. To learn more visit www.Sam-

sClub.com/travel.The U.S. Travel Association states that Americans left

429 million days of earned vacation days unused last year. It’s clear you deserve a vacation! Get smart about saving on travel and indulge in that much-needed getaway.P

cently on the hit ‘Break-ing Bad’), listeners have come to rely on B.D Lenz for commercially viable

music. There are thousands of independent artists in a homogenized market, yet Lenz manages to stand out.

After having made a repu-tation for playing groove-based contemporary jazz

Lenz decided it was time to do something more tra-ditional and evocative of his jazz roots. “I finally

feel like I have something to say in this genre and am competent enough to play it,” said the DIY musician, and “70% of the gigs I per-form are now more straight ahead jazz because of the venues we play.” Lenz pro-duced the project himself;

not uncommon in an indus-try where record labels are losing their stronghold.“Ready or Not” features ten (10) well-balanced songs. All are newly composed by Lenz, with the exception of two: (1) “How Deep Is Your Love” by the Bee Gees and

Whether you use your deck or patio for entertaining or for solitude, you’ll want it clean, comfortable and safe this season. Take time to spruce it up now and then.

Periodically dust off your outdoor furniture and wipe down cushions that have been in storage all winter. In-spect flower pots, bird feeders and other outdoor decor to ensure they withstood the cooler months. Replace anything that is damaged.

Before setting furniture and decor back, give the surface below a good clean. Whether you’re dealing with cement, brick or wood, the quickest and most thor-ough way to deep clean and restore surfaces to a like-new condition is with a pressure washer. Knowing how to use one properly is important for a quality job and for your safety.

USAGE TIPS:• Different surfaces require different cleaning tech-niques. Ensure you’re following the instructions for the surface you’re cleaning.

• Always read and follow the operator’s manual and all operating instructions.

• High-pressure spray can cut through skin, so never spray people or animals. Wear closed-toed shoes and goggles while pressure washing.

• Assume a solid stance and firmly grasp the spray gun with both hands to avoid injury if the gun kicks back

before squeezing the spray gun trigger.

• Never spray near power lines, service feeds, electrical meters, wiring and windows.

• Check the engine oil level each time you use a pres-sure washer. When changing or adding oil, don’t overfill the engine crankcase. Doing so can cause smoking, hard starting, spark plug fouling and oil saturation of the air filter.

BUYING TIPS:Buying a pressure washer for the first time or replacing

an old one? Here are some guidelines:

• Pressure washers are categorized in groups based upon frequency of use and the types of products and surfaces they are best suited for cleaning.

Selecting the right pressure washer for your needs de-pends on what you’re going to clean, how often you plan to do so, and how much time you want to spend. Ask yourself these questions before making a pur-chase.

• Look for a versatile pressure washer that can be used for a variety of tasks. For example, the new Briggs & Stratton POWERflow+ pressure washer has both a high pressure and a high flow mode for different clean-ing chores. Deep clean your patio and driveway in high pressure mode or clean more delicate surfaces and rinse away debris in high flow mode.

• Consider going green with a model having reduced environmental impact. If you have an older pressure washer, a newer model could offer lower emissions and better fuel efficiency.

• Learn more about pressure washers before making an investment. For a buying guide and instructional videos, visit www.BriggsAndStratton.com.

With a deep clean, you can make your home’s outdoor spaces a friendly place to relax and have fun.

There is no minimum size: we’ve given tours to one person, and many to school groups. Sustainable and humane farming is all over the news these days. Here is your chance to take a close-up look at how it is entirely possible to raise happy and healthy animals in a natural

setting without the use of chemical inputs. Things are always changing on a farm, but come meet the usual cast of characters including 100-300 sheep and lambs. In spring, the lambs are newborn and near the barn. In summer, they are on pas-ture and you can see the

border collie working. Our pastured pigs don’t have to be raised in concrete pens in smelly buildings. See how playful and content our Tamworth pigs are in the fields and woods. Chick-ens: no confinement build-ings with big fans here. Our meat birds start as chicks in

a warm brooder, then move outside to green grass. Hon-eybees: our hives are man-aged with natural chemical-free methods. Taste their delicious honey! Horses

part of three events on the Carlisle schedule. Those events are the Carlisle Truck Nationals (August 1-3), Bloomsburg Nation-als (August 8-10) and Car-lisle Sports and Outdoor Show (September 5-7). Jim was part of the inau-gural Carlisle Sports and Outdoor Show in 2013 and was such a hit that not only was he booked almost im-mediately for that event in

2014, he was also added to two other events as part of a family friendly schedule of activities. Two events will take place at the Car-lisle PA Fairgrounds in central Pennsylvania, with the other at the Blooms-burg Fairgrounds in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. A tall lanky man with a funny hat, Jim is an experi-enced animal handler filled with enthusiasm and an

outrageous wit. He presents the craziest and most edu-cational wildlife show ever seen and based on the reac-tions of guests at Carlisle in 2013; people will keep talking about for weeks after seeing the show. With over 25 years as an animal handler, Bwana Jim and his wife and fel-low handler, Linda travel the world presenting their unique wildlife show. Jim

specializes in reptiles such as snakes, alligators, and turtles, plus showcases other exotic critters like armadillos, wallabies and exotic birds. Jim’s rare gift for handling animals helps him better share his knowl-edge in an incredibly fun and entertaining way that is more memorable than any classroom experience. Each Bwana Jim showcase is free with event admis-

sion. Further, kids who attend can easily find them-selves hands on with the excitement. Kids 12 and under are admitted free to all events promoted by Car-lisle, regardless of event lo-cation. Further, while adult tickets vary per event, on average they are just $10, making a family outing with Carlisle that much more af-fordable. Jim isn’t the only kids’ activity either. The

same four events mentioned above have a dedicated kids’ area, which includes a bounce house, swings, arts, crafts, games, racing simu-lators and more. Complete Carlisle Events information can be obtained by calling 717-243-7855 or by visiting www.CarlisleEvents.com.Farm, Garden & Outdoor

Most Americans under-stand the importance of saving for retirement but unfortunate-ly, not everyone’s concerns translate to action.

While 93 percent of work-ing Americans know they should be contributing to their retirement, only 72 percent are actually doing so, accord-ing to the results of Capital One ShareBuilder’s Financial Freedom Survey (accessible at http://tinyurl.com/n9zvksh). The same study found that while nearly three-fifths of re-spondents plan to retire by age 65, almost the same amount of people fear they’ll never save enough for retirement.

“Unfortunately, saving for the future is often put on the back-burner for what may seem like more pressing finan-cial priorities, such as paying for children’s college educa-tion,” says Dan Greenshields, president of Capital One ShareBuilder, Inc. “Today more than ever before, individuals are responsible for ensuring their own financial security dur-ing retirement.”

The earlier you begin to plan and save for your post-working years, the better, Greenshields stresses. Here are some top things to con-sider:

• How much will you need to finance your retirement? Do you plan to move, travel or take up new hobbies? Also take in to account potential unexpected and rising costs, like healthcare.

• You can estimate your retirement needs by iden-tifying potential expenses, as well as by calculating the amount you might receive from each potential source of retirement income, such as Social Security, pensions, personal investments and employment earnings.

• Don’t be surprised if what you need to retire is a large sum -- since this mon-ey may need to support you for 20 or 30 years (or more). Fortunately, there are ways to help maximize your retire-ment savings over time.

• Investing early for re-tirement and contributing as much as possible to tax-advantaged employer-spon-sored retirement plans and IRAs are two ways to help

build your retirement dollars.• Automatically transfer

a regular contribution from your paycheck to your retire-ment account.

• In some cases, it may be appropriate to consider rolling over or transferring funds to an account without minimums. However, there may be some cases where leaving the funds may be the right decision. If you opt to rollover funds, Capital One ShareBuilder, an online in-vesting platform, offers flex-ibility by allowing customers to trade stocks, exchange-traded funds, mutual funds, and options. More informa-tion about whether or not you should rollover funds can be found at www.ShareBuilder.com.

• Understand your time horizon, risk tolerance and goals. Generally speak-ing, your risk tolerances will change over time.

• Make planning a family affair by scheduling times to discuss your financial future with your partner or family

members over dinner, on a picnic or as part of a week-end getaway.

• Consider working with a qualified financial profession-al to help ensure your retire-ment plan is on target.

It is never too early or too late to get started -- and while it may seem daunting, there are quality tools and re-sources that might help you along the way. Sometimes it can be rewarding, perhaps even enjoyable.

There are dozens of chemicals on the market that make you less attractive to ticks and mosquitos. But did you know

there are several things you can do that don’t involve chemicals?

First, be healthy. The metabolic waste products of a person with prob-lems is different that someone who is healthy. Ticks and mosquitos are at-tracted to the easy meal the less than healthy provide.

You can get healthy by follow-ing number 2: Eat more fruits and veggies. Ticks and mosquitos are attracted to the scent of sugar and yeast. The more processed foods, breads, pastas, and sugars you eat, the more attractive you are and the more likely you will develop Type 2 Diabetes, High Cholesterol or High Blood Pressure.

Third, shower with unscented soaps before going out. While a mos-quito can smell you from at least 30 yards away, the stronger you smell, the better target you make. Chemical scents in shampoos and soaps act like magnets.

Finally, use natural plants to ward off insects. Chrysanthemum, laven-der, pennyroyal, marigolds, and citro-nella grass are stinky to fleas, ticks, mosquitos, and gnats. Studies have shown that the living plant is more potent than chemicals, essential oils, and dried plants. A few pots of these around your patio not only smell good to you and are pretty, but can keep out what you don’t want.

All too often, men stay out of the kitchen, relegating their food preparation to the outdoors. But even master grillers know that eat-ing well means being versed in more than just barbecue.

“Men cook for pleasure and showmanship -- not just for prac-ticality -- which explains why they are so attracted to the grill, but indoors there are plenty of occasions to play with knives, fire and flavor,” says bestselling cookbook author and award winning food writer, Steven Raichlen.

Raichlen’s new book “Man Made Meals: The Essential Coo-book for Guys,” teaches men to navigate the kitchen with confi-

dence, style and tenacity. He operates under the principle that whether you’re frying an egg, building a quesadilla, or putting to-gether a four-course meal, using quality ingredients and proper techniques can make or break a meal.

And with just a bit of knowledge, men can stop relying on take-out or someone else for homemade cooking. Whether single or married, in college or retired, on a budget or on the board of direc-tors, learning the way around a kitchen can help you eat well and you can even show off while doing it!

Give this flavorful recipe -- that you can eat with your hands -- a try!

Finger Burner Lamb Chops:Ingredients

• 2 1/2t pounds small lamb rib chops, cut 1/2 inch thick• Coarse salt (kosher or sea) and cracked or freshly ground black

peppercorns• 1 tablespoon hot red pepper flakes, or to taste• 3 cloves garlic, peeled and minced• 3 tablespoons finely chopped fresh rosemary• 1 to 4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, depending on the cook-

ing method• Lemon wedges, for serving

Directions

• Arrange the lamb chops in a single layer on a baking sheet. Generously season one side with salt and pepper and half of the hot pepper flakes, minced garlic, and rosemary. Drizzle two tablespoons of olive oil over the chops and pat the ingredients onto the meat with your fingertips. Turn and repeat on the sec-ond side. Marinate in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes.

• Heat one tablespoon extra virgin olive oil in a large cast-iron skillet or on a plancha over high heat until shimmering. Add the lamb chops in a single layer (work in batches as needed) and cook until well-browned on the bottom, about three min-utes. Turn and cook until well-browned and the meat is cooked through or to taste, about three minutes for medium.

• Place the chops on a platter and encourage everyone to pick them up and eat the meat straight from the bone. Serve with lemon wedges for squeezing and plenty of napkins.
