Welcome to the March, TV guide
A LOOK AT THE CASA DEL MAR RESORT, MEXICO
I certainly may not the best writer in the world, and defiantly not
the best photographer either, but felt it necessary after two visits
to the Casa Del Mar Resort in Mexico felt compelled to write an
article on the resort and its facilities.
Located on page three i give my unbiased opinion along with
photos of this divers Mecca!
----------------------------------------------------
While diving with Del Mar Aquatics, Cozumel, I ran into Cesar Medina,
their underwater videographer who at the beginning of the dive filmed a
HUGE green eel attacking a octopus, some crazy footage! Along with that
there is also 45 minutes of two dives where he tags along and shoots me
doing some photography!
NOW PLAYING ON DIVE ZERO TV, CHANNEL 20, THE COZUMEL
CHANNEL
----------------------------------------------------------------
WOW what a photo contest it was for February! With over 600 mem-
bers (doubled since January) and 92 entries in the theme of “MACRO’
were some over the top entries! Props to all entries.

IN FOCUS
Like i said earlier, I am certainly not a writer,
nor am I professional photographer, I am a per-
son who loves to travel, loves to dive, and try to
capture those moments on film.
After two consecutive visits to the Casa Del
Mar Resort in February 2008 and 2009, I felt
compelled to do an article on this Mecca for di-
vers. I will say my first visit was a lot better than
my second, at check in, my room was wrong,
which is not a big deal if i did not travel for 19
hours of hellish flying! After getting me to the
right room i found that the patio doors do not
close and lock properly! I had maintenance come
and repair it only to find out later that most rooms were like this, so if you go there, check your patio door. The
staff at the Casa Del Mar are 1st class and love there guests, if there was a complaint its the lack of English
(my fault really for not learning enough Spanish as this is Mexico). The maid service is great, as is the outside
amenities such as the pool and swim up bar (one of my favorite non-diving past times).
They have there own beach club located across the street
via a walk bridge, tennis courts, internet access (lobby only)
and sweet shore diving. The Casa Del Mar is located a short 5
minutes to town where you will find great night life, fancy
foods, and foods you may not want to eat! Activities here go
on and on. If you visit during the Carnival, take the camera,
dress up in beads and get ready for a PARTY. I have been to
a party or two, and I will say that the Carnival is right over the
top, loud music, traditional dressing, bead throwing along with
the cutest dressed up kids you will ever see. If your going to
do a trip to Coz, make it during this time, typically between
February 20th to the 24th with the festival getting larger as the
days begin to wind down.
The food at the Casa Del Mar is pretty decent with the
staff having what i would call 5 star service. The menu is good
but could have a little bit more selection. I stayed with an op-
tional “all inclusive” plan that cost an additional $39.00 USD a

day with me eating and drinking around
$60.00 USD a day, over all, a pretty
decent add on that I would recommend
if your into staying at one place, your
an eater...and love to tip a few!
If your looking for an inexpensive
place to lay your head have a good
time and do some great diving, do it
here, Its not a typical “resort” with kids
running around and cattle boats of
divers...talking about diving, lets talk
about that!
DEL MAR AQUATICS AT THE CASA DEL MAR RESORT
Diving with the troops at the Aquatics are fun, nuff said!
There DMs are top notch and know where to find the
goods. I would recommend Rene, he has been there for
more than 15 years, born and bred in Cozumel. He was
able to find everything from small Sea Horses and File Fish
to Eagle Rays and HUGE Eels. He is very conscious about
the environment as well. He doesn't like his reefs to be
dismantled by divers with poor buoyancy skills.
When on the boat between dives he keeps you laughing
with a very lovable teddy bear style that women just love!
They keep a clean boat stocked with water and most of
the boats i were on have washrooms. I did find that the
groups may get a bit large for my liking as i like the smaller
groups so I don’t have to fight to get a shot of a subject
under the water. Below are a small collection of photos from this
trip...enjoy! Want more? visit my Facebook photo page here

REQUIEMRecent Re-
search has
shown pre-
cipitous de-
clines in
many
coastal and
oceanic shark species in the Northwest
Atlantic. It has been estimated that, since
1986, hammerheads have declined by
89%, thresher sharks by 80%, white sharks
by 79% and tiger sharks by 65%. All re-
corded shark species, with the exception of
makos, have declined by more than 50% in
the past 8 to 15 years. Go here to learn
more on what you can do to help!

immense creative challenge”. He set out on
a three-year journey across the United
States with his producer and partner Hazel
Todd, living together in an Airstream
trailer and travelling over 100,000 miles to
photograph underwater images from every
state.

THE DIVE VILLAGE’S PHOTO CONTEST
WOW, Februarys theme of “MACRO” was insane! So many great shots, So many great photographers... but there can only be three!
Its very obvious the Macro shooting in our beloved waters is very popular, and will only gain in popularity with such an enormous amount of gorgeous “macro” sea life.
With great photographers taking great shots, its tough to take the top spot, especially when Fiona Ayerst has entered her photos! This gal is special, she has unique angles and uses light very very well. Februarys entry of her Pygmy Seahorse took top spot, blowing away the competition with a total vote count of 126! Great job once again Fiona, your photo is proudly displayed on the front cover of Dive Zero!s TV Guide, as well as a
write up on her inside accessing links to her personal web pages.

WHO IS DIVE ZERO & SUBMISSIONS
Who Is Dive Zero...
Managing Director Wally SchredlFor the past 18 years, This guy has been a
full time Professional Diver, traveling the
world, and living in Grand Cayman for over 7
years. Becoming"one of the top PADI Plati-
num Course Directors on the planet. Wally
created and operated a very successful dive
instructor college program in Canada and the Cayman Islands. He's done it
all... an accomplished U/W photographer and videographer, Boat Captain,
Dive Operations Manager, Free Diver, Spear-fisherman, Shark, Stingray
and harbor seal"wrestler (he is even known to feed 6ft green morays from
his teeth)
Executive ProducerRob Lysak
Rob started off filming snowboarding and extreme
sports in the snowy hills of the southern Albertan
Rockies at Castle Mountain Ski Resort. Since
then, he has added onto his extreme sports film-
ing list with freestyle motocrossing and producing
a skateboard video, which sold in 5 different con-
tinents across the world. He has now brought his
experience of filming and editing for the past 20
years, over to scuba diving. The sport of scuba
diving should be thanking Rob for his creativity and new angles that he has
brought to the sport. Robs also a very accomplished underwater photogra-
pher as well.
Director of OperationsLuke Boychuk
Growing up as a sponsored skateboarder, after
high school, Luke decided to change his life com-
pletely 180 degrees around. He decided to be-
come a scuba instructor. After completing the
course, he decided that he would take up under-
water filming instead. He came up with the idea of
Dive Zero in late 2005, and has worked on it al-
most everyday since. The whole idea was to bring
to scuba diving, what skateboarding, snowboard-
ing and every other extreme sport has - a life-
style. When Luke is not working on Dive Zero, scuba diving, traveling, and
getting through everyday scenarios that life brings, he still "
manages to find time to skateboard for his sponsors.
