Principal’s Message
Dear Parents and Carers
We had a very productive P&C Meeting last week with all positions on the Exec filled. Thank you to all who assisted with this. Thank you to our outgoing Deputy Presidents Wilco and Matthew. Special thanks to Rachel for her dedication to the Secretary role. We appreciate all you have done for the School and our students.
Our Parents’ Meeting was also well attended on Friday. We still have a couple of classes to select parents to take on this role. Gill outlined the allocation of jobs for the year.
Our Canteen had another blackout last week and they rescued the lunch orders really well with a special pizza order. Well done to you all. We were reconnected by 1pm.
Year 6 headed off to Camp Yesterday. They will have a fabulous time with many challenges and teamwork tasks to prepare them for the year ahead. They have had a great first day, having completed high ropes, flying fox and raft building and had a Country Fair last night. All are on their very best behaviour and are looking forward to another great day today. We will let you know via Skoolbag if they are running late.
The large tree that came down in the storm two weeks ago has been looked at and will be removed soon. The tree has damaged the neighbours shed and fence and this will need to be repaired at the same time. The area will remain cordoned off until this is finished.
The Band Information Night went well with the majority of parents attending. Thank you to the Band Committee for all your work with this it is a very busy time for you all.
We have had some queries regarding homework this year. The teachers will still set homework for their class but part of the homework will be an optional task or tasks.
Stage expectations will vary with Stage 3 completing assignments and other groups completing classwork consolidation. We are endeavouring to cater for very busy schedules that we know a lot of students have and understand that homework is hard for some and not so hard for others. The expectation is of course that there is always Reading homework and Maths practice where required. We are trying to make this more manageable for you at home.
I have had a meeting with our Assets representative and he has outlined some of the projects for the school this year. One of these is the upgrade of the Infants’ toilets which will be very welcome. I have booked a special deep clean to alleviate the odour, as an interim solution. Other works include playground surface upgrades to our COLAs and floor surfaces. These will be completed throughout the year but I have no time schedule as yet.
Our Prefects will attend Leadership Camp in Term 2 week 1. This is for the leaders who did not attend the City Country Alliance Leadership event in Term 4 last year. All these notes have been sent home.
Zone Swimming Carnival will be in Week 7, notes have been sent home regarding this.
Kindergarten commence their first full days this week. Please be extra vigilant around the streets at the end of the day as the traffic is much busier when this takes effect. A reminder re Kiss and Drop and parking around the school to obey all signage. Council rangers do checks and you will be booked if you do not comply. This is all about the safety of your children.
One small correction from last week’s Newsletter. The photo at the end of my section should have read Dr Karl not Dr Hill. (Mr Wang was amused by his new title!)
Have a great week

Volunteer Programs for Literacy
Dear Parents and Carers,
My name is Mrs Jenny Harrisson and I’m the Learning and Support Teacher at the school. Part of my role is to oversee the
programs run by parents and volunteers to support those students who need short term extra support in reading. All
programs are run on a 1-1 basis.
I will oversee the ‘MultiLit Program’ for students in Years 3-6 and Mrs Shelley Warren will oversee the ‘Parent Run Reading
Program’ for students in Years 1 & 2. Both programs were a great success last year.
I would love to hear from anyone who would be interested in joining these programs as a volunteer this year, as well as
the wonderful volunteers who helped to make such a difference for the students last year. All I need is a commitment
from you to be available at least once a week, preferably in the morning, on a regular basis. No prior experience is
required. Mrs Warren and I will train and support all volunteers and provide the necessary materials.
If you’d like to volunteer, including volunteers from last year, could you please complete the section at the end and return
it to me ASAP.
Thank you,
Jenny Harrisson
Learning & Support Teacher
Please return to Jenny Harrisson via the office.
