Review CAVE Memo Gain input from ALL part ies
Do more than just include the schedule in contract. Communicate with subs.
2 Week Look-Ahead
Update Master WEEKLY
Review against or ig inal weekly
Subcontract includes most up-to-date schedule at t ime of subcontract issuance
Expedite mater ia ls . Get mater ia ls onsite unless there are course condit ions (humidity, etc) won’t a l low.
Vis it fab s i te (steel , mi l lwork, g lazer, etc.)
Manage to Mi lestones. Ear ly mi lestones set a tone. Celebrate the wins. Make sure you announce them and meet them.
Never use the word ‘delay’. Use the word ‘ impact’.
Should be one schedule per week in a f i le. Same with 2 week look-ahead.
Owners want you to f ind a way to overcome! This is how we di f ferent iate ourselves! Always overcome yoursel f.
Not i fy for weather every 1st of the month. Even i f you say we hope we don’t need.
Cal l before you write. Let them you have written.
Establ ish 5 major mi lestones and track jobsite mi lestone poster.
Rub the diagnost ics on Pr imavera to make sure you have a schedule with no loops, act iv i t ies with no i tems without predecessors or successor and mandatory constraints.
No act iv i ty with only one predecessor.
Cal l before you write. Let them know the letter is coming.
Reward excel lent product ion.
Product ion charts by subcontractor and by major act iv i ty. Catch ear ly fa i lures this way.
Weekly Meet ings > S, Q, S, C
No act iv i ty more than 5 days except for submittals and lead t imes (fab and del iver) .
Stay away from f in ish to start re lat ionships. Very rare that something has to be 100% complete to start the next act iv i ty.
Get submittals in! No reason that X months after start ing a project you are st i l l messing with submittals
Pictures dai ly and weekly should show progress or lack thereof.
DO NOT use mandatory constraints or mandatory start and f in ishes internal to the schedule.
Be specif ic with subs, ta lk and write in speci f ics not in general i t ies. “You are behind” is insuff ic ient.
Don’t use the o ld “you need more men”. Focus on not l iv ing up to their agreement. Focus on product ion and i f i t is on schedule to complete the act iv i ty.
Monitor progress of subs with measurable analysis . (500SF of drywal l to be hung in 5 days, make sure they get 100 the f i rst day, etc.)
