Creating Links
Creating links within your site is a great way to help students navigate the Internet. For example, if you want students to conduct a research project, but don’t want them wasting time finding inaccurate information or websites that are beyond their reading level, you can provide a set of links to preselected web resources. Below are a few ways that you can create links within your site.
Turning Text into an External Link:
1. Copy the URL that you want to create a link to.
2. Logon to Google Sites
3. Select the Site that you want to add a link to.

4. Go to the page that you want to add a link to.
5. Click the Edit icon in the upper right-‐hand corner.
6. Add and/or highlight the text that you want to turn into a link.
7. Click on the Link icon in the toolbar.

8. Select “Web Address” in the frame to the left.
9. Paste the URL of the website that you copied in step 1.
10. Check the box at the bottom if you want the webpage to be opened in a new
window (Optional) and press “OK”.
11. Click “Save”

8. Click on the Link icon in the tool bar—this will automatically generate a link to the site.
9. Check the box at the bottom if you want the webpage to be opened in a new
window (Optional) and click “OK”.
10. Click “Save”

Creating an Internal Link (linking to a page within your site): 1. Logon to Google Sites
2. Select the Site that you want to add a link to.
3. Go to the page that you want to add a link to.
4. Click the Edit icon in the upper right-‐hand corner.

5. Click on the Link icon
6. Choose the page within your site that you want to link to OR create a new page
to link to.
7. If you choose a page within your site skip to Step 11. If you created a new page,
give the new page a title.

8. Choose the type of page template you want to use.
9. Select the location of the page.
10. Check the box at the bottom if you want the page to open in a new window and
click “Create Page”
11. Click “OK”
