What Is Lifeline?The system is run by Winchester City Council and is staffedby a dedicated team. It is available to all residents living inthe Winchester district.

How Does It Work?Lifeline operates over the telephone networkand is easy to install. For further informationcall us on the contact details opposite.

A small alarm button is worn when you are athome - as a pendant or on the wrist - so that in the case of anemergency the alarm button can be pressed to call for help.This automatically alerts the Lifeline Control Centre wherestaff can speak to you even if you are unable to reach thephone, as the system can use the telephone as a loudspeaker.

When the call is received, Lifeline staff will see yourdetails on their computer screen, together withnames and addresses of doctors, relatives, etc.Once we have established the problem, we cansend the appropriate help. This could be aneighbour, friend, relative or mobile warden, orcall for medical help.

All calls are recorded for monitoring purposes, and areconfidential.

What Is A Mobile Warden?Mobile Wardens are on duty 24 hours a dayto respond to emergency calls from usersof the Lifeline service to the ControlCentre. Able to react quickly, they workout of offices in Winchester and BishopsWaltham. The Warden service is onlyavailable to residents living in theWinchester district.

What Does It Cost?There are two types of Lifeline unit - the basic unit that isused together with your own telephone handset, or thePremier unit, which incorporates a dialling pad and providesfull telephone facilities.

The Lifeline unit is rented and costs vary depending on theunit and cover required (see enclosed price list) but startfrom under £3 per week. There is no installation charge ormembership fee.
