Buffalograss Tolerance to Broadleaf Weed
Herbicides — Jared Hoyle
Mixed emotions fill the turfgrass industry with concern
to buffalograss injury from broadleaf-weed herbicides.
This demonstration will show if any buffalograss injury
occurs from applications of commonly used broadleaf
weed herbicides available in todays market.
Turf & Ornamental Disease Update — Megan
Kennelly
This stop will discuss common turf diseases, landscape
diseases, and environmental stress/disease look-alikes.
Painting Dormant Warm-season Grasses
Green — Ross Braun and Jack Fry
Homeowners often find the straw-brown color of
warm-season grasses objectionable. Here's the solu-
tion: paint. It's done routinely in the southern U.S.
on golf courses - come find out if it can work on
Kansas home lawns.
Turf & Ornamental Insect Control — Ray Cloyd
This stop will discuss turf and ornamentals insect
pests and new pest control materials that may
alleviate problems. Be sure to bring any "bug" samples
and also ask questions associated with pest manage-
ment.
Where Have All the Conifers Gone? —
Jason Griffin
This tour stop will look at some of the ongoing pine
wilt research, as well as exploring alternative conifers
for the Kansas landscape.
Viburnum Selection for Kansas — Cheryl Boyer
Many viburnum species grow well in Kansas, but what
characteristics make them shine across all of our
varying climates? Last fall we planted 19 species of
viburnum at 7 locations across the state and had
interesting results for winter survivability. As the
study progresses, we will challenge these species with
heat, drought and cold. What will be the defining
characteristics of the winners? Come see how your
favorite species performed in south central Kansas
and maybe find a few new ones to try.
Drought Resistant and Low Water Use
Turfgrass and Landscape Plants — Dale Bremer
Turf and landscape plants differ in water-use rates
and in their abilities to withstand severe drought.
This presentation will focus on those species that use
less water and withstand drought better.
2012 NTEP Tall Fescue Trial — Steve Keeley
This is your chance to see the latest and greatest tall
fescue cultivars developed by turfgrass breeders.
We’ll take a look at their visual quality, disease re-
sistance and more!
