Operation of Lube oil System

• Ensure MOT Basket Strainers are cleaned• Ensure sufficient MOT level ( @ 350 mm)• Start one vapour extractor fan.• Put lube oil temp control on Auto• Check readiness of AOP I & AOP II• AOP can be started manually from PCR or on AUTO thro SLC

ON• Watch current ( @ 110 A) & AOP discharge pressure ( @ 7.5

Kg/sq.cm.). Put SLC AOP II ON• Ensure availability DC LOP• Watch drop in level of MOT after starting AOP ( @ 280 mm)

Operation of Lube oil System

• Ensure one of the oil coolers is in service from oil side

• Keep GS water inlet/outlet valves open for the coolers in service from oil side

• Charge the coolers from water side by properly venting it

• Check the oil flow thro’ bearings pedestals on outlet pipes

• Watch lube oil temp. at @ 40-45 deg. C• Start one of JOPs & put the 2nd JOP in Auto.

Operation of Turning Gear

• Ensure Gen Conditions regarding Hydrogen Purity / pressure & Seal oil pressure

• Open turning gear gate valve to put turbine on Barring gear

• Turbine shaft speed shall increase to about 120- 140 rpm.

Operation of Condensate system• Starting of CEP• CEP A & B discharge valves closed• CEP suction valves are opened & line up of the down-

stream side of Discharge valves is done• Check CST level & DM OH tank level are normal • Take open/close trails of make up valves• CEP recirculation valve open• CEP evacuation valves are open• CEP gland sealing water supply is available• Ensure adequate hotwell level

Page 7: Turbine Auxiliaries Oprn
Page 8: Turbine Auxiliaries Oprn

Operation of Condensate system

• Make CEP ON thro SLC• Check opening of discharge valve• Check opening of Discharge line vent valve• Check CEP current & Discharge header pressure• Check thrust bearing oil temp

less than 60 deg C

Page 9: Turbine Auxiliaries Oprn

Operation of Condensate system

• Tripping conditions of CEP• CEP dis. Pressure < 14 Kg/sq.cm.• Motor protection acted• Hotwell level low < 300 mm• Stand-by oil pump will pick up on auto if

i. Running pump trips Or ii. Discharge hdr pressure < 14 Kg./Sq. cm.

Operation of Feed Water Pump• When all feed pumps are in stopped condition check

following• No maintenance staff is working on the pump• All control instruments & gauges are in proper place. All

root valves for different gauges are in open position• CW for Booster pump bearing cooling is OK• Check availability of compressed air for pneumatically

operated valves• Hydraulic coupling oil tank level normal• BFP AOP is running• Charge BFP by opening its suction valve and open it

completely

Page 12: Turbine Auxiliaries Oprn

Operation of Feed Water Pump

• Both lube oil & working oil cooler are charged from water side

• Check balancing oil leak off valve is open• BFP discharge & its Bypass valve is closed• All drains including casing drains are closed• Mechanical seal cooler charged from water side• BFP Recirculation valve & isolating valve near

Deaerator are open

Page 13: Turbine Auxiliaries Oprn

Operation of Feed Water Pump

• Check Deaerator level Normal• BFP scoop at minimum position• Check all remote operated valves have been given

power supply & confirm their operation at local• Check that all the pump protections & interlocks

have been checked• BFP motor cooling water valve in closed position

Operation of Feed Water Pump

Routine checks for BFP- Brg. Drain oil temp < 70 deg. C.- Motor hot air temp around 60 deg. C.- BFP suction pressure, dis. Pressure & balancing leak

off pressure- FW Diff. temp across BFP- Bearing oil flow- DP across lube oil filter- Oil level in Hyd coupling oil tank

Operation of Feed Water Pump

Shut down procedure of BFP- Reduce scoop position to minimum- Stop BFP- Check CW valve for motor closes- Check AOP has startedInterlocks for Recirculation valve- Opens when flow < 100 tons/hrOr if DT > 10 deg.C.- Closes when flow> 220 tons/hr

Operation of Condenser Vacuum pulling- Ensure CW pumps are in service- Condensate system in service. Main ejector & GSC are

charged from water side- Turbine on Turning gear operation- Turbine Seal steam & ejector hdr. Charged- Ensure vacuum breaker valve is closed.- Start GSC exhauster fan- Take starting ejector in service- At vacuum of 0.1 to 0.2 Kg/sq.cm. Admit steam to seals and

put seal steam pressure control on Auto- At 0.5 – 0.6 Kg/Sq.cm. vacuum take main ejector in service- With draw st. ejector at vacuum of @ 0.75 Kg./sq.cm.

Operation of Gland seal steam system

Steam should not be supplied to the gland seals until following conditions have been fulfilled

- The turning gear must be in operation- Steam supply line up to the supply valve must be

drained properly and preheated before the supply valve is opened

- The gland seal steam header must be properly drained & heated up.

- The GSC should be in operation from condensate side.

Page 21: Turbine Auxiliaries Oprn

Preconditions for raising the pressure at the turbine admission & warming up the main steam lines & valve bodies- Condensing system must be in operation and

condenser vacuum deeper than a preset value- Turning gear must be in operation- Drains of MS lines must be open- Warming up & drain valves for Main stop valves &

control valves must be open- MS temp at turbine inlet with 50 deg. Superheat- MS temp approx 50 deg C. above mid wall temp

temperature of HPT casing
