After launching the tunnel boring machine (TBM) Angeli in February 2017, mining over 4,400 feet, and installing 877 concrete rings, she broke through at Grand Av Arts/Bunker Hill Station where she was welcomed by crews, press, and community members. While there is still more work to be done, the breakthrough is a significant accomplishment for the project. Angeli has received some maintenance, pulled across the station, and relaunched. She's now mining towards the TBM retrieval shaft at 4th/Flower St. Once there, she will be disassembled and transported back to the future Little Tokyo/Arts District Station to begin mining of the second tunnel.
