Bell Ringer: In a paragraph, respond to the following prompt.
Prompt: Why would someone want to compare the person he or she loves to a summer’s day?
THE ENGLISH SONNET NOTES
also known as the Shakespearean sonnet because Shakespeare perfected the form

With a partner answer the following questions.
1. Where does each quatrain begin and end?
2. What is the rhyme scheme of each quatrain?
3. How is the third quatrain different from the first two?
4. Paraphrase the couplet.

PARTNER ENGLISH SONNET
With a partner, compose a sonnet. The topic should be “strong favor of your beloved”.
A Shakespearean Sonnet includes 3 quatrains (4 lines each for a total of 12) and a couplet (2 lines). The entire sonnet is 14 lines.
