Acoustic Technician: Collaborative Large Whale Survey (CLaWS) in the Northeast Pacific August 2015

Modified and reprogramed sonobuoys for deployment, whilst on the NOAA ship, Reuben Laskar.

Passively reviewed live acoustic data (ISHMAEL) transmitted from deployed sonobuoys and recorded

significant information and identifiable whale species.

Directed visual crew to certain locations by using whale calls and DiFar cross-fixing.

Transcribed written information in the log book to excel spreadsheet for statistical analysis.

National Marine Mammal Laboratory Seattle, WA

Lab Technician and Intern January 2015 – Present

Disassembled, cleaned, inspected, and properly stored AURALs from previous field projects.

Maintained and cleaned lab space on a weekly basis.

Used MatLab to assess presence of fin whale calls in the Chukchi Sea near Pt. Hope, Alaska. After initial

analysis, reviewed the PNGs that had fin whale calls for a larger study: Chukchi Acoustics, Oceanography,

and Zooplankton Study.

Lab Technician August 2012 – December 2014

Coordinated labs between the fisheries science lab and marine mammal lab at Alaska Pacific University.

Contributed to master’s students theses when needed.

Ordered beetles, assembled an enclosure and used beetle cultures to strip flesh off of fish skeletons.

Constructed and used flume tanks to demonstrate trawl net efficiency.

Field Technician: Razor Clam Survey April 2012

Sieved for razor clams while avoiding the tide. Once clams were found, they were sized and aged and

recorded. Also recorded depth of sediment, type of sediment, other clams or invertebrates found, and if able

GPS location.

Winded, unwound, and hauled hoses. Renewed torn nets. Operated seawater pumps and the tool used to

liquefy the sediment.
