July Program This month’s guest speaker is Teresa Coats. Teresa has a penchant for sewing, quilting, teaching, and adventure. In 2011 she says she stumbled into the quilting industry. Her credits include working at Fabric Depot, and editor of Web Cents Magazine. She currently works for Shannon Fabrics in Los Angeles, CA, while writing and designing her own patterns for Crinkle Dreams and other national magazines. Her quilts and sewing projects have appeared in Bust, Quilty, Stitch, Quiltmakers’ 100 Quilt Blocks, Generation Q and American Quilt Retailer. Winter Bazaar In November, TVQG Members will participate in the King City Winter Bazaar by selling handcrafted items fashioned by our guild members. This will be TVQG’s only fundraising event. All members are encouraged to donate their handcrafted items as well as volunteer to spend an hour or so manning the sales table during this two-day event.

Contests and Challenges UFO Contest

The UFO Contest is well under way, and for the last couple of month during Show and Tell, attendees at General meetings have been able to view quilts members have completed their UFO’s.

If bringing in a UFO to Show and Tell, make sure you get sure you get a drawing entry ticket for each quilt you are presenting.

Row by Row Conclusion

At the June Meeting members participating in the Row by Row Challenge were given back their pizza boxes. Then at the August General Meeting they will given the opportunity to bring in the quilt they constructed from the rows that were designed by their fellow guild members and prizes will be awarded.

Half Square Triangle Challenge

Construct a quilt using HST’s

Blocks need to be a combination of light and dark (or contrasting colors)

May use other block types or shapes for block setting or borders

May be any size Quilter may, at their discretion, keep

completed quilt or donate it as a charity or bazaar item.

There will be no charge to enter the

challenge.

Quilt must be finished to be presented. By popular vote, first, second and third

place prizes will be awarded.

Prizes will be provided by the guild.

Charity Quilting News Charity Quilter’s Sew Day Charity Quilters Sew Days takes place the first Monday of every month at the Sherwood Senior Center. Sewing start time is 10:00 am. Everyone is invited to join us. If attending, please bring your own sewing machine and basic sewing supplies.

If you are working on a charity quilt and need a quilt label or to “raid the closet” for fabric, batting or supplies to complete or compliment your quilt, please drop by the Sherwood Center anytime during their Monthly Charity Sew Day.

Good Neighbor Center The Good Neighbor Center is in need of food, personal grooming supplies, and cleaning products. If you have any of these items on hand to donate, please bring them to the next General Meeting. Our Charity Quilters team will deliver your donations to the Good Neighbor Center for you.

Days for Girls TVQG has adopted Days for girls as another ongoing charity that it will support. The Days for Girls charity provides lasting hygiene solutions, health education, and income-generation opportunity to girls in Sub-Saharan Africa, India, and the rural areas of Brazil.

Block of the Month The June block of the month winner was Judy Derry

TVQG members are invited to make the buttercup block for our July block-of-the-month. Instructions are at the end of this newsletter. The finished block size is 9” x 9”. It’s suggested that you use a cream background, green for the leaf, yellow for the flower bud, and any color for the flower. We’ll hold a drawing for the blocks at our July 18th meeting.

Fat Quarter of the Month

June fat quarter winners were Sue Capell and Vicki Lee

The fat quarter theme for July is anything blue.

Sit and Sew
