President’s Report
Happy February – just remember what happened 1 year ago today (23” of snow in Elk Grove Village!) and be grateful. Last Friday, Lion Ed Ruszkowski and I delivered a CCTV Video Magnifier to a 10 year old Elk Grove girl’s home. Angela Bratt, can now read her textbooks at home, view pictures and read fun books and magazines. Lion Ed, Eyeglass and Hearing Aid Committee Chair, was able to obtain this machine from the Lions of Illinois Foundation at no cost to our club. Good job, Lion Ed. A press release on Angela Bratt is included in this month’s Den. Upcoming club events include the District 1F Convention the first weekend in March. Info is included in the Den. Please try to attend even if only for a day. Trivia Night will be Saturday, March 31, at the Elk Grove Pavilion. Please help support this by participating with a table of 8, donating items for our raffle baskets, or volunteering to help that evening. Happy Valentine’s Day and Presidents’ Day! Hope to see you at the dinner meeting, February 15 at the Black Steer Restaurant (formerly Charlie’s). Lion President Anne
1st Vice President’s Report
The District 1-F Convention is almost upon us. I’d really like to see as many of you as can come. It would be a great show of support for our Zone Chairperson. The guest speakers are going to be providing you with a great deal of information about Lionism. Not to mention that the Hospitality rooms plan be exceedingly hospitable. On another note, Trivia night is coming up the end of March. I will be at a new location and looks to be even better than ever. This is one of our biggest fundraisers and also one of the most fun fundraisers. We need your help to make it work. Again, don’t keep us a secret – tell everyone what we do and what we are doing! Lion Kirk, 1st VP

Trivia Night Our Sixth Annual Trivia Night Fundraiser will be held March 31, 2012. This year the event is going to be held at the Garden Terrace Room of the Elk Grove Park District. In order to make this event succeed, the Club needs your help. Get a group of your friends together, form a team and sign up for a table. So you don’t feel like playing, ok you can make a donation. There will be a basket raffle and a silent auction at Trivia Night. We are in need of NEW items to make up our baskets or to auction off. Of course the Trivia Team will take a cash donation (or check). How about $25.00? Your contribution will enable us to earn the funds necessary to benefit those with sight or hearing problems. Please plan on participating, just let me know if you want to play and /or donate. Remember why you are a Lion; this is your club and your fundraiser, please participate. Lion Barb, ZC
Elk Grove Lions Club Donates CCTV to Elk Grove Student
The Elk Grove Lions Club presented a CCTV (Closed Circuit TV) Video Magnifier to Angela Bratt, a 10 year old visually impaired student attending Link Elementary School in Elk Grove. Angela was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy when she was six months old. Her vision is very poor and she requires a CCTV to do her reading at school. She is in the 4th grade and needed the CCTV reader to use at home to read her textbooks and homework. The Video Magnifier enables her to enlarge print or photos to whatever size she needs in order to see clearly. Angela is a very bright girl and has been earning A’s and B’s in school. She was thrilled when Lions Ed Ruszkowski and Anne Feichter delivered the “Reader” to her house.
The Lions are recognized worldwide for their service to the blind and visually impaired. Lions are also involved in a variety of other activities to improve their communities and help people in need, such as assisting the hearing impaired, providing diabetes awareness and education materials, and helping needy families. For more information on the Elk Grove Lions Club, visit our website at www.elkgrovelionsclub.org.
Lion Diane
Float Queen
Lion Diane Millar decided to do something that most of us only dream of doing –
she volunteered and was accepted to go to Pasadena and work on the Lions
International Rose Bowl Parade float. The following are some of the photos she
gave us that show the final float themed “A World at Peace” as well as her having an
opportunity to meet the Lions International President Wing-Kun Tam.
