LET’S GET FIRED UP! For Kids LET’S GET FIRED UP! For Kids LET’S GET FIRED UP! For Kids LET’S GET FIRED UP! For Kids Theme of IGRC ConferenceTheme of IGRC ConferenceTheme of IGRC ConferenceTheme of IGRC Conference

Every June, each church (or charge) sends their clergy and lay delegate(s) to an annual meeting for spiritual, missional, and community formation and conferencing. This meeting is called Annual Conference. All clergy, elders and deacons, are required to attend. You can attend as a visitor, or watch thru a link at www.igrc.org.

Our bishop is Rev. Frank Beard who hopes that “each person, as well as those participating online, will leave ignited and excited about Jesus Christ. I believe that if we allow the Holy Spirit to set us on fire, we will be successful in achieving our mission of ‘making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world’”.

GCUMC Lay delegate Virgil Rosendale and I will be attending this year’s Illinois Great Rivers Annual Conference at the Peoria Civic Center from June 8-10.

This years’ workshops include:

• Building the Church in Prayer— led by Dr. Terry Teykl

• Can We Talk? Led by Rev. Sephanie Ann Hixon

• Evangelism for Non-Evangelists—led by Dr. Mark Teasdale

• Reaching New and Next Generations— led by Revs. Jessica Baldyg & Joe Sheets

Workshops are scheduled for 12:15-1:15 on Thursday and Friday.

I have heard Dr. Terry Teykl speak at a couple of conferences that I have attended. He mixes a deep felt passion that revival comes from prayer, with a delightful sense of humor. He is worth your time to watch online.

John and Charles Wesley believed that Christian conversation was essential for Christians to grow in faith. Thus, early Methodism required attendance at a local class meeting where they could discuss how they experienced God in daily living and thru spiritual devotion. As Methodism grew, the first conference was held in 1744. Today, the U.S. has 56 annual conferences.

Nineteen GC UMC-ers attended the Reaching New People workshop, hosted by our church on April 29. Mike Crawford, Conference Dir. of Congregational Development, led participants in exercises of reflection and visioning, including planning the next action step in reaching unchurched people. Watch for more information coming through Connection Team.

Sam Horsch, a student of Duke Divinity School, recently completed his Spring semester. His courses included: Engaging Modernity, Introduction to New Testament, and Nature and Native Americans.

Susan Schultz, an Asbury Theological Seminary student, completed her Spring course: Theology and Practice of Preaching. Susan was able to share her learning experience by bringing the message to our congregation three times during the semester. She says, "Thanks for letting me practice on you!”

Living is a learning experience; be open to ways God is teaching you!

Mark Your CalendarsMark Your CalendarsMark Your CalendarsMark Your Calendars The Connection Team is excited to announce a new opportunity for our church family to come together -- 5th Sunday Fellowship Hour! The next 5th Sunday will be on July 30th. We will meet in the Fellowship following the 8:45 worship service (around 10am) and fellowship until 11:00am. Snacks and drinks will be provided by the Connection Team.

Our children will enjoy snack time with us and then head off to Sunday School. Adult Sunday School classes are invited to stay for all or part of the fellowship time.

Please consider participating in this time of friendship and conversation! For more information, contact any member of the Connection Team.
