MORAL VALUES : i) Grateful ii) Cooperation EDUCATIONAL EMPHASIS : The Simple Pre sent Tense is focusing on: a) the action that are done regularly (habitually) or repeatedly. b) universal truths and facts. INSTRUCTIONAL AIDS : Picture cards, word cards, Cloth bag, A4 coloured papers, pictures of var ious actions, glue , a pair of scissors and basket. TOPIC  : The Simple Present Tense

OBJECTIVE : By the end of the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  Use verbs in Simple Present Tense correctly and appropriately.

SET INDUCTION

( 8 minutes )

Charade

1.  Teacher prepares words

in a “magic” bag. 

2.  Teacher tells pupils that

words showing actions

are called verbs.

1.  A pupil comes out and

picks a word from the

“magic” bag. 

2.  The pupil acts the word

out and the rest of the

class try to guess the

action/verb.

DEVELOPMENT

ACTIVITY 1

(10 minutes)

Find My Name

1.  Teacher distributes

pictures to each pupil.

2.  Teacher tells pupils that

the words on the board

are action words in the

present tense.

3.  Teacher tells pupils that

we add ‘s’ or ‘es’ to

actions that are done

daily.

1.  Pupils need to find the

words that match each

picture from the baskets.

2.  Pupils stick the pictures

with the matching words

on the board.

ACTIVITY 2

(15 minutes)

Present Actions

1.  Teacher divides pupils

into groups of four.

2.  Teacher distributes each

group with an envelope.

3.  Some groups are given

pictures and some

groups are given words.

4.  Teacher tells pupils that

these words are showing

an action that is done

regularly or repeatedly.

5.  Teacher tells pupils that

we add ‘s’ or ‘es’ to

action that are done

regularly or repeatedly.

1.  Pupils have to find which

picture matches which

word.

2.  Pupils stick the pictures

and the words on the

board.

3.  Pupils construct a

sentence and write them

down.

ACTIVITY 3

(20 minutes)

Mini Book

1.  Teacher divides pupils

into groups of four.

2.  Teacher asks pupils to

create their own verb

books.

3.  Teacher provides

pictures of various

actions they like.

1.  Pupils label each picture

with a verb.

2.  Pupils make a sentence

for each picture using the

verb.

3.  Compile the verb books

and display them in class.

CONCLUSION

( 7 minutes )

1.  Teacher gives a set of

picture cards and word

cards to each group.

1.  Pupils match the word

cards to the correct

pictures.

2.  The group which is the

fastest to match the

cards correctly is the

winner.

FOLLOW-UP ACTIVITY : Teacher distributes worksheet for enrichment and remedial pupils.

SELF-EVALUATION : Pupils were very happy with the activities and they could use Simple

Present Tense correctly and appropriately .
