TSA News January 2017 Volume 35 Issue 1 Town Hall Meeting on Bullying of LGBT Students is at St. Lucas UCC on Thursday Jan. 19 One of the great concerns of the local LGBT community, and many parents of LGBT students, is the bullying of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Students in area schools. Mem- bers of the TSA Youth Group have often been bullied in local schools, and the administrators of the schools often fail to act on behalf of the students (with most complaints being about the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation and the War- rick School Corporation). Suicide remains a risk for LGBT students who are bullied. The Rainbow Catholic Interfaith Coalition and the Tri- State Alliance are hosting a town hall meeting to talk about these issues on Thursday, January 19 at 6:30pm at Saint Lucas United Church of Christ, 33 West Virginia Street in Evansville. The evening will begin with a panel discussion by local stu- dents and parents talking about their experiences. The public is welcome and encouraged to at- tend. Dr. Lisa Jane Bishop December 29, 1962—December 30, 2016

Lisa Jane Bishop, 54, of Vin-cennes suffered a heart attack on Friday, December 30, while visiting family in northwest Arkansas. Lisa, the youngest daughter of How-ard and Betty (Berry) Bishop was born December 29, 1962 in Springdale, Ar-kansas. A graduate of Hendrix Col-lege, Conway, Arkansas, she went on to earn her doctorate in Clinical Psy-chology from Indiana State University. Lisa is survived by her partner, Sue Kuehl of Vincennes, Indiana, her mother Betty of Lowell, Arkansas, her sister, Judy Crawford of Hot Springs, her sister-in-law, Sherry of Harrison,

Arkansas, and brother, Joe Bishop (Eva) of Lowell, one (favorite) niece and five nephews and their families (7 great-nephews, 9 great-nieces), and a host of great friends, neighbors and co-workers. She was preceded in death by her father, Howard Bishop, brother, Don Bishop of Harrison, and sister-in-law, Angie Bishop of Lowell. Lisa served as Director of the Vincennes University Counseling Center for 22 years where she helped scores of students. She wrote and taught online courses in general psychology and abnormal psychology. Previ-ous to that she had worked at the Samaritan Center. Lisa was an avid sports fan (Go Hogs! Go Fever!) and enjoyed numer-ous activities such as reading, travel, birding, and visiting friends and family. Watching documentaries and listening to podcasts were a favor-ite pastime and all radio presets were on NPR stations. Her generous, loving, compassionate spirit will be missed by all who knew her. After Tissue and Organ donations, her body was cremated. A celebra-tion of Life will be held at 10am on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017 at the Vin-cennes University Beckes Student Union. Goodwin Funeral Home is handling local arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in her name to the Knox County Community Foundation, PO Box 273, Vincennes, IN 47591 or in her name to the Vincennes Animal Shelter, 1128 Rover Road, Vin-cennes, Indiana 47591 (dogs Jack and Pete highly approve this one!).

The Ghostlight Project Will Hold Event at 5:15pm on Jan. 19

Think PINK invites all members of the Southwestern Indiana and surrounded area theatre and artist community to come and be a part of The Ghostlight Project. Everyone is encour-aged to attend to unite with other theatres across the nation and act as a beacon of light. Here is a brief synopsis of the event: On January 19, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. in each time zone across the country, members of the theater community - from Broadway to regional theaters to high schools and colleges and community theaters - will come together to launch The Ghostlight Project. Gathering outside of theaters on the eve of the Presidential Inauguration, people will join in a collective, simultaneous action, together creating “light” for challenging times ahead. Inspired by the tradition of leaving a "ghost light" on in a darkened theater, artists and com-munities will make or renew a pledge to stand for and protect the values of inclusion, partic-ipation, and compassion for everyone--regardless of race, class, religion, country of origin, immigration status, (dis)ability, gender identity, or sexual orientation. January 19th is a moment of gathering within a larger resistance to intolerance at all lev-els. We aim to create brave spaces that will serve as lights in the coming years. We aim to activate a network of people across the country working to support vulnerable communities. This is not a substitution for protests or direct action, but rather a pledge for continued vigi-lance and increased advocacy. What should you do to be a part of it? Bring a flashlight to serve as your beacon. Bring yourself and any friends who might support this mission, you and/or theatre. Spread the word to anyone who might be interested so we can create a huge support group! We will gather in the parking lot of Studio 321, located at 321 N Congress, Evans-ville, IN 47715 @ 5:15, with intent to "light up" at 5:30 pm. More information will be available as the event nears. ‘Like’ Think Pink Productions on Facebook for regular updates about this and other events.
