Salford City Reds

Foundation received a welcome boost to their funds with a donation of £10,000 from the City of Sal-ford Community Stadium constructors, the Buckingham Group.

The cheque handed over by Buckingham’s Project Manager

Brett Kanjurs was received by John Blackburn and Mark Brocklehurst on behalf of the Reds and will allow the foun-dation to invest in further com-munity projects earmarked for the Eccles/Irlam areas.

Speaking on be-half of the Buck-ingham Group Brett Kanjurs said: “We are delighted to be supporting

the work of the Reds Foundation and feelthis is a great opportunity to put something back into the lo-cal communityin which we are cur-rently working”.

“The Founda-tion does a great job and we wish them all the best with the move to the stadium later this year and their continued achievements

within the city.”

The clubs move to the City of Sal-ford Community Stadium for the 2012 season will further boost the delivery of health and education sports projects carried out by the foundation in con-tinually engaging local residents in a number of com-munity activities across Salford.

The stadium is being delivered by a joint-venture company between Salford City Coun-cil and Peel and is the largest single investment in sport in the city for decades.

Leader of Salford City Council, Cllr John Merry CBE said: “The new stadium will be a great stage for world-class rugby and we want local people to benefit from the opportu-

nities it will create. This donation will help to do more work with schools to raise aspirations and get children ex-cited about sport.”

SCR Foundation’s Mark Brocklehurst said: “A huge thank you to the Bucking-ham Group for their generous donation and to Salford City Council for their continued sup-port. Buckingham’s contribution will go a long way to assist us in continuing to deliver and build upon the work al-ready carried out by the Foundation as well as building for the future.”

If you would like to know more about the work carried out by the Reds Foundation or would like to do-nate please contact Mark Brocklehurst on 0161 737 0610 or email [email protected]

Reds’ stars Sean Gleeson and Wayne Godwin flank Ernie Edwards, Edward Crompton and Charles Robinson

Everybody involved with Salford City Reds is aware by now that we only have a few games remaining here at The Willows before we move to our state-of-the-art new stadium over at Barton. In fact, with just three games remaining it is entirely possibly that you may allow yourself to miss out on out-standing match day hospitality without even realising it.

Three gentlemen who have seen everything the Reds have had to throw at them, often from the comfort of our hospitality suites are Ernie Edwards, Edward Crompton and Charles Robinson, who between them have nearly 250 years sup-porting Salford! Beat that for dedication to the cause.

Whoever the opponent though, they always like to celebrate in style with

our popular entertain-ment packages that can be tailored to sui you, your company or even your family.

If you are looking for something a little bit different in the com-ing weeks then book a table at one of the remaining fixtures and don’t let time pass you by and make you miss out on your own piece of history.

It may be that your company is looking

to entertain clients, or reward staff, or maybe your event is a little closer to home and you have a fam-ily celebration on the horizon. Whatever the occasion, our friendly staff will go out of their way to make sure your evening is a memorable one - we can’t always promise a victory on the field, but we can promise you will leave us with a smile on your face having enjoyed a fantastic night.

To register your interest in our hospi-tality for the remain-der of this season, or even next season at the brandnew City of Salford Commu-nity Stadium contact Andrew Bentham on 0161 661 1788 or email [email protected] today.

On Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th June, over 800 people met at Salford City College, Eccles Sixth Form Centre to take part in a world record 24-hour game of Touch Rugby, or Touchathon.

The Touchathon was also endorsed by former rugby league international Stephen Prescott MBE, a former cancer sufferer himself, and aimed to involve the most players ever in a 24-hour game of touch rugby.

School pupils, college students and rugby professionals including Reds players, amongst many others from across the North West, played a game of touch rugby which commenced at 8am on the Wednesday and concluded at 8am the following morning.

The event, which was organised by the Rugby Football League (RFL), in conjunction with Salford City College and Salford Community Leisure was a charity fundraiser, with all profits from entrance fees and donations on the day being nated to The Christie charity.

Bringing together people of all ages, from various backgrounds and some with little or no experience of the game previously, the event saw over 800 competitions during the 24-hours and thousands of pounds donated to he Christie, as a contribution to the new cancer unit being built at Salford Royal Hospital.

Phil Arbelo-Dolan, Sports Development Manager at Salford City College, delighted to host the event: “The college looks to raise money for good causes wherever it can and we were delighted to be involved in this very special event. Students nd staff from the college took part in the event, some for the entire duration, and we were pleased to welcome so many different groups from the North West community, schools, journalists and rugby professionals to the college.
